- Hard, dried salty shrimp used to add flavor in many Cambodian dishes. After the shrimp has been dried, and the shell has been removed, place it in the fridge to preserve the taste and color. Dried shrimp can be preserved from several months to a year.
I bought this dried shrimps at chinese store, it's very expensive though but I'm glad I run into your channel now I can make my own dried shrimp. Thank you
Lol we make them in mexico and a kilo cost me 200 pesos well it was more then a kilo but yea is like 9 dollars.
A tip, instead of leaving it outside for a while day just put it in the oven at 120 degrees for 2 hours
This is "sun dried shrimp"
Thanks for sharing the details for making these yummy shrimp snacks
That is one tedious work. Thank you for your hard work and sharing....

I love dried shrimp. Every time i go to a Mexican store i get them
The process from these dried shrimps in the video might be way too different from the ones feom the mexican store. These rediculously salty to be eaten as a snack.
Im about to make X. O sauce and im not planning to buy dried shrimp online. It's so expensive. We have a lot of fresh shrimp which is way more cheaper. Im gonna make my own. Thanks for thia video. It helped a lot.

I love this video! The shrimp is soooo fresh:) keep the videos coming. Thx
very simple recipe, one might even say a very shrimple recipe
I did my own before but not satisfied with the result so I checked youtube here, thanks for uploaded. Just find out that I did the same, just like this so am not satisfied. It's too much shrinkage. How do you do it so you don't lose so much volume??
Very interesting, wouldn't the sun make them go off?
Your video is the most explicit one here on the subject, i like it.
My questions are: is it just as safe to sun dry baby shrimps without the shell?
What if the temperature is not exacly as high as the one you've mentioned?
Gio Biocampo I have not sun dried shrimp without the shell before; always with shells on and break later when it's dried. The shell traps salty water in the shrimp while evaporating slowly in sun that gives the shrimp a bright pink color & flavor. As far as safety goes I would cook shrimp first before drying. If the temperature is not hot enough use food dehydrator or dry for more than 3 days.
I love. thank you.
Thank you
Can't wait to do my shrimp
Can I use oven to dry the shrimps and for how long
That has been a very interesting video. Thank you.
Thanks for this video , I learn how to dry up the shrimp . To expensive to get it from the shop. Per klio goes up to rm 60 - 70. Can speend time on this method . We get fresh shirmp.👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Love it😁😉
Is it acceptable to peel first before drying or do you lose flavour by doing so? I’m going to use a food dehydrator as I live in a colder climate.(Canada)😀
Frank Schabler from what I know, peeling them makes it easier for you to just hydrate and toss them into whatever dish you want, don't forget to devein them first! It makes them convenient. The shells have lots flavor, too, though, which you can use by grinding up the shrimp in its entirety to make shrimp powder. Hope that helps :>
Hi can I make it without salt? Bcz I don’t want to keep it for long
Will it work if I peel the shell off before boiling it ?
how many kg shrimp did you use in the video? and how many kg is the result?
Can i use frozen shrimp? Thank u
How much dried shrimp do you get after starting with 20 lbs?
Not very much, about 3 - 5 lbs depending on how dried and shrinked up they are.
We can use this to feed aquarium fishes
The shrimp is huge..
Just for seeing the color of the shrimp i can tell you that its not well done, the salt water shrimp cant be used for dry. It has to be estero shrimp, farm shrimp or swet water fish. I tell you because i’m whole seller dry shrimp. You also ve to put some color on it, we use red achiote or some vegetal colorant.
And the next, men the skin its eatable too 😮. I think that this is not for busisness.
3 days? Thats to much, in mexico we just let it hald day and after that go to the freeze
And your pot needed more water then what you put in there and needed some seasoning like crab boil come on lol I know it's for Asian dishes but never understood how Asian and Chinese ppl can eat shrimp and seafood bland with no crab boil what so ever on them. But this looks pretty good might have to try this sometime a guy that works for me is Asian and eats sundried shrimp by its self as a snack like potato chips all the time and it smells pretty bad to
How many lbs of fresh shrimp do you need to produce one lb of dried shrimp?
+Khang Nguy I never actually weigh shrimp before and after, I just do it a big pot at a time . About 3 gallon bag fresh shrimp give 1 quart bag of dried shrimp clean and shell removed. I would think about maybe 12 to 15 lbs to 1 lbs dried shrimp. When shrimp season is here I will weigh the shrimp before and after to check.
Is it shrimp season already? I'm also curious
Khang Nguy bum
I see this is why dried shrimp is sooo expensive
The guts are not cleaned out like how they do fish?
There isn't really any guts to clean out, just a vein on the back of the shrimp. It usually falls off with the shell once you smash and clean the dried shrimp.
And that's why it's cooked it salt water brings out all impurities
Musik nya enak😆
😋😋😋😋😍😍😍😍😍
Oh no, you lost a tray!
Us Mexicans just eat them shell and all.
The background music is irritating...
Yes must try
Yummy expired rotted shrimp. I never understood why you would want to sub dry shrimp when you can eat them fresh from the water like that ruins the freshness of them just eat em fresh I know it's for certain dishes but damn. I live on the Gulf of Mexico and when I need fresh shrimp I just go.to the shrimp boats and they load my cooler full of freshly caught shrimp they caught that morning and only charge me 50 bucks for a huge cooler full and it's about 25 lbs of shrimp I get
bad music
Key take away - just buy it; too much work
