  • Against a background of slow, quiet strings representing "The Silence of the Druids", a solo trumpet poses "The Perennial Question of Existence", to which a woodwind quartet of "Fighting Answerers" tries vainly to provide an answer, growing more frustrated and dissonant until they give up.

    This is a superior version of this work compared with others i've heard.. I'm adding it to my YT Library. and deleting the others.
    I knew of IVES in high school. I am a music lover rather than a musician. I chose where to matriculate in part because IVES is a graduate of the university. I am honored to share a fraternal affiliation with him as a function of where I attended college and collegiate politics.
    IVES is and will be always the most important American composer of art music. This music substantiates the claim.
