Percy Jackson (Trials of Apollo) - Hayloft II Animatic

Spoilers for Burning Maze - Trials of Apollo
I wanted to animate the scene where Apollo sacrifices himself right before the whole Jason incident because it was one of my favorite scenes. The way it was written and the way Caligula was actually a good, evil, villain, made it extremely interesting and suspenseful to me. I cut out a couple of the moments from the book to keep this shorter and more action-filled, but all the words used in the animatic are directly from the book by Rick Riordan. I hope you enjoy!
(Also, I know Caligula is supposed to be wearing his sailor’s outfit but when I read the book I completely missed that and thought he was wearing the Sun God costume from one of Apollo’s flashbacks. Therefore, that’s all I could imagine when reading it, and it felt wrong to draw him in the sailor’s outfit. To be honest, I just feel like the Sun God outfit is more iconic and most fan art of him is done as such. Plus, I really like drawing robes and, as you can see in the animatic, I used the robe to its full extent with all the poses and transitions.)

honestly i've watched this animatic over and over again so many times & it just drives me MAD. in a good way. the music just fits & oughgghh the expressions... and i love the way it's timed so well that it makes all the parts where the song has impact truly impactful bc thats just!!! such a topping!!! i keep rewatching it and i keep seeing the perfectly timed movements to the big bop or accent in the song and im just HFJSDF love it. my favorite part is probably 0:34-0:42 though, just because of utterly unhinged you've made caligula look and lester's look of completely uh-oh, it's a crisis lmao

Ahhhhh thank you!!! I started making it with the intentions of using a different song and as I was nearing the end I was realising it wouldn’t fit that song anymore, so I spent hours listening to music that I thought might fit and then this song came on and I was like damnnnn this is almost perfect! So I switched a few things around and decided this was what I wanted it to sound like! And ya lmao, Caligula is insane, but he was such a good villain so I wanted to show that in the video, so I’m glad you liked it!
