Holy Whack A Moley!! Jacob & Co.'s Billionaire, famously worn by DJ Khaled as one of the most expensive watches at the Oscars, has been raised to the new Yellow Diamond Timeless Treasure edition!! This yellow diamond version, which was unveiled at this year's Watches and Wonders, costs a whopping $20 million!!!! It is the result of three-and-a-half years of work in which each of the 425 Asscher-cut yellow diamonds were sourced, matched, cut, and set to build the structure of the watch. After each stone was eventually cut, 10 gemologists took 880 carats of rough precious stone and ended up with 216.89 carats. "For the Billionaire Timeless Treasure, we were receiving stones one by one, two by two, three at most," says Seraina Wicht, head of gemology at Jacob & Co. It happened multiple times, and we went for several weeks without receiving a single one worthy of the piece." With 216.89 carats of diamonds, the watch is a museum-worthy masterpiece that embodies exclusivity, opulence, and diamond quality!!! The gems were cut with high complexity to create a kaleidoscope effect, and the yellow gold case was crafted to measure, link by link, prong by prong, and fine-tuned for the perfect fit. In addition to the 425 Asscher-cut stones on the case and bracelet, 76 emerald-cut tsavorites frame the movement, which is made up of 57 baguette-cut yellow diamonds. Powering the watch is Jacob & Co.’s JCAM39 skeletonized hand-wound movement which features a tourbillon, 72 hours of power reserve, and is made with 167 parts in 18-carat yellow gold. WOOOWZAAA! “I thought Parmigiani’s collection was focused, narrow and impressive. They have moved away from so many different references. I think Ulysse Nardin has done a great job of building around the Freak. DLC and carbon were everywhere. Even Rolex having a titanium Yacht-Master-that’s awesome.
“I was impressed by the fact that a lot of brands did not flood the market with new introductions. There was a lot of revisiting the past. A lot of redesigns, like the IWC Ingenieur. It used to be a clunky watch, but now it looks like a little Royal Oak.”
“I continue to be impressed by Hublot’s material innovation. A lot of brands are trying to double down on what makes them great. There’s not a lot of risk-taking but brands are trying to double down on who they are. Oris absolutely, between the ProPilot with Kermit, which demonstrates they don’t take themselves so seriously, while at the same time releasing a stupendous watch in the ProPilot Altimeter.
