Mike, my name too. I (summer) daily a 63'Bel-Air, 4-door 9 passenger wagon!! SOOO practical, LOVE it! 350/350, 4bbl. 2 30"glasspacks. White body, dark blue top, blue pearl clear over both! Chrome early rallys/spinner centercaps/R.W.L. tires, FUN lots of compliments & not even done! Oh, my Harley =the color you showed of the 60'!
Very cool episode guys. And so awesome to see you'd both have imports, especially early Japanese stuff. Myself, I've been lucky to be around 1960's Jaoanese stuff, especially Isuzu's, my whole life so apart for my 41 Ford business coupe (that's 239 flathead powered and now a traditional style hotrod) I've also got a shed full of Isuzu's. The crowning glory is a 1968 Isuzu Bellett 1600GT (look that up). They were a serious competition car in the day and have a real cult following now. 30 years ago they were a $3000 car, at most for a perfect one. Now, $35,000 won't even buy a decent driver. Love the channel guys. Keep up the awesome work! Brett in Australia.
Idea for a future video or podcast. I am not a Ford Guy, but religiously watch all of your videos every week. Really like the era of post WWII speed, and watching you re-create or re-interpret your versions of it. So, topic would be: What are your favorite non-Ford hot rods?
High school classmate boyfriend's '48 Mercury lead sled. 1964 I went into the Fort Knox hobby shop to change filter and oil one evening, another soldier had spent the day replacing the fuel injection on his silver '63 split window with a 4 barrel. I watched him carry it across the bay to place it into a trash barrel! I didn't know.
Great episode guys, way to put it out there. I love the genuine conversation. It's hard for me to choose a top three since I love to contemplate anything that would look good with some mild tweaking.
First a flathead fit right into a falcon.. we did it in high school (1995).. put a stock 51 merc flathead into a 64 falcon 2 door.. it ran.. it was slow.. but we learned stuff .. our shop teacher encouraged it..then laughed at us when we were done.. 😂😂😂😂😂
Fully on board with Mike and his desire for a 70s Skyline. They are cool. I had a modified '81 R30 sedan and a '98 R34 GT-T sedan. I miss them both. Top three cars? A mid-60s pillarless sedan, like an Impala. A 90s Toyota Supra turbo. And an S13 Nissan Silvia with a turbo SR-20 motor and five-speed gearbox.
Hey Matt I drove a 58 Elderado when I was young back in the 60's before I went into the Marines in 1969,it was teal color and I wish I still had it .I bought it for $50 dollars from my 2 nd cousin who was married with 4 kids and needed money.
My top three cars would be; 1 - Mercedes 500k/540k roadster 2 - Marcos GT V6 3 - Porsche 356 Also suggested topic would be - Life as a business owner - growth and how you handled it
Gotta agree, black is the best color on the '58 Caddy IMO. My personal top 3: 1.) 1940 Ford Tudor Sedan. We had one when I was a child and my dad and I kept dreaming of the day we'd restore it, but the barn it was in burned to the ground and left it unsalvageable. 2.) 1969 Mach 1 Mustang. Our neighbor had one and my dad tried to get it for my first car but the guy decided not to sell after all. 3.) GMC Futurliner. Because they just really look cool.
Number 1 for me is the first Porsche I ever drove. Very sentimental attachment. 1991 964 cabriolet, white with blue interior. A elderly neighbor I was friends with and grew up next to had it for years and use to take me to Porsche events with him. He sold it when he moved to Texas 10 years ago and I recently tracked the car down and found where it is serviced at and told them the story and gave them the info on it but the owner has not reached out. That was back in April of this year. I had the chance to buy it when I was 19 when he moved for $18,000. The same car now goes for 60,000-90,000. Makes me sick sometimes when I think about it.
I had several chances to buy classic cars for "cheap," which later increased in value. I used to think I missed out until I realized the cost to register, insure, garage, and maintain them for 10-20 years until the appreciation hit would eat up most of that. However, the best story I heard was from a mechanic who had auto-crossed an "old Porsche," which he ended up selling in the '70s for $3,500- with trailer- when money was tight. I don't recall if it was a 550 Spyder, but he said it had sold recently for over $3,000,000 at auction.
#1 Shelby cobra #2 Thunderbolt #3 ford falcon sprint convertible. Interesting choices from you 2. That is why there are so many car brands and models, everyone has their own taste. See you at Carlisle.
Truly enjoyed this topic.. There's way too many choices for me. But I would go with a 1956 BMW 507 Convertible, 1947 Olds 98 Convertible, 1970 Olds 442 W30.
59 wagon rules! the grill was fancy as hell. as a child we had such a wagon. went in for work and the loaner was a impala fully loaded. Down to the twin antennas on the back fenders
In the early 70's I had a 57' Cady Fleetwwood in light blue with a powder blue top. The car was pristine, even had the original solid rib spare tire in the trunk. Used it as my daily driver for a year or so. When I acquired another car (an Opal GT, forget what year) and moved, I had no place to store the Cady and let it go for what I'd payed for it ($500 believe it or not).
before I was born my father had a 57 Olds Super 88 2dr hardtop , Corondo Yellow & White on top .. have only seen black & white photos but I love that car early 80s bought a 78 Civic coupe 3 speed in a parking garage , $50 for a winter beater, 4 flat tires .. wheel bearings & brakes clapped out , put it back together , starter worked %50 of the time , would push it up hill & pop the clutch .. Im a diehard GM guy by birth but that Honda was a tank I know Mike is a big guy ... Im 6ft4 & that tiny Honda fit me better than any Japanese car Ive ever been in
Another great podcast! I was like Matt, drove a '82 BMW 320i coupe when I was in my early twenties. Car was a road rocket that was useless in snow and rain. Paid $1200 bucks, stick and leather interior, definitely impressed the ladies and would kick Escort GT's ass! My bucket list pick would be 1932 Lincoln V12 coupe. Beautiful touring car without the Duesie price tag. Go Iron Trap, keep moving forward!
interesting that Mike was into Nissans and mentioned the early Skylines. i had been telling people about the Skylines since i was in high school and had a couple books on Japanese cars that showed the early Skylines and i thought that they looked a lot like American muscecars. i was not into Japanese cars or imports at all though until the late 90's. i've had two Z32 300zx's, a WRX and a Starlet that i was building and sold unfinished. wanted to do the VW thing but never ended up owning any
#1 would be a 74 Cadillac El Dorado. Green with the half vinyl top and sunroof. White leather interior. 502 ci caddy and front wheel drive. (My grandmother's car I drove senior year of highschool) #2 early 50's Hudson Hornet. The 4 door with the backseat so big, you could open the backdoors and run through it. 72 Corvette convertible. Modern suspension and drive train for power and reliability.
5 window Model A Coupe; East coast style [channeled and not chopped]; '37 Chev Coupe, and probably early to mid 60s Valiant, with slant 6. That'd do me, nicely.
It feels a little strange at times that when I consider buying a car where money is no barrier, I tend to think mostly of American cars even though I live in Australia 🇦🇺. Therefore, classified as Imports. Maybe it's because my father owned all kinds of cars when I was growing up. Top three for me : 1970 Lincoln two door, 1956 Crown Victoria (fully optioned out) & the 1962 Aston Martin D85 from the 1964 James Bond film, Goldfinger. Yeah Baby !!!
1970 LS6 Convertible Manual in Black on Black, White stripes, Rallye 1s with wide ovals. I remember as a young man traveling with my family and we stayed in the George Washington Motor Lodge across the freeway from the King of Prussia Mall. I convinced the folks we HAD to go there. I think it was up on the 5th floor of this beast of a mall, there was a SMURFS store, only Smurfs. It was... horrifying. Nightmare fuel.
Firemist paints in Cadillacs in that era. special metallic ingredients..... Looks fantastic to this day... I redid a 71 Eldorado and used similar style paint, and of course I picked "gunmetal gray" base/clear. It was a really boring color Eldo was a blank canvas since it was painted puke powder green and looking at the color options overwhelming and I just picked after pressuring myself. Should have been a look on thursday and pick on Monday.... Oh and right after I did it, fine gentlemen from Camden, NJ decided to run into it leaving the white horse lounge.... Ah such is life.
Matt, I drove a few 190 Mercs when I first past my driving test in England, I had a 1969 beetle that I lowered and was big into the cal look , but those 190s in standard form were crap compared to the early Volvo turbos that were out , then I had a go in the Cosworth.... completely different, the company I worked for had some pretty ordinary cars but the at the same time ford were going the hot hatch with turbos in small cars and It was a different world
Mark Levine Raleigh, NC A 1956 Green Plymouth Belvedere. 2.1958 pearl white Corvette 3 1968 Sport Satellite 2dr forest green 318 tinted windows. 1946 Ford p/u. Also 1956 Buick Super tinted windows, These cars I already have owned . But want again!!!!!
1968 GTO, Green, black interior, 4 speed and mint. 1965 Shelby GT350, mint, 1939 Ford Coupe deluxe, later flat head, overdrive, original interior, patina, patina , patina. That's the unlimited money list.
That was funny. You two looked like an old married couple sitting on the couch watching TV. And you had just had a tiff. Enjoyable but. Cheers. Michael.
I forgot one I saw back in Utah in the 80s- a Toyota 2000GT. It was a joint venture between Toyota and Yamaha and looked like it dropped out of the future. The owner at the time said it was worth $25K, which sounded like a fortune to a college kid like me, tooling around in a 1973 Toyota Celica GT that I paid $300 for. Interestingly, at that time you could buy pretty much the nicest Jaguar E-type convertible for the same money. I wonder how much of these crazy classic car prices are due to appreciation, and how much is due to the loss of value in the US dollar?
Owned a 2dr 60 wagon in nice shape. All original. It went to a collection of 59-60 wagons. He had 11. I live in British Columbia and am in my mid 50s so have been through the cheap japanese/europene scene. Didn't care about them. Mint 510s cheap and early 911s for 10Gs. 930s for lows 20s and I'm talking 🇨🇦 $. My three are a Stutz Bearcat, early Auburn roadster, and a Shelby Daytona. Two good friends have/were a bigtime Caddy and a Packard guy. I've been involved in both at a high level. I've got/had some real bitchin shit and in reality have had some of the most fun with old junk most of the time.
Mike, Kind of surprised that when you discuss "wagons", and you're talking "optimum", you didn't say "Nomad" (tri-five, of course)?? My Dad had a 40 Packard sedan before he was drafted into WWll so those are my favorite Packards. Completely agree with your "dashboard" thinking. For me, that logic translates to the post war Chevy's where the 49/50 models have a "killer" dash with the "vertical" style radio while the later 51-54's are dull and boring !!! I would go "all the way" to saying the "Packard" was probably the "ultimate best ever American" production made automobile !! Obviously, one could argue "Duesenberg" or others in that class but I don't consider those "production" models. ;o( Thanks for the "chat" session !!!
Thanks for asking - I was recently thinking that an update on the status of all the ITG cars would be interesting. I subscribed to your channel during the '39 tudor. (I just saw that car on a RoadKill episode) Usually when a car is no longer in your videos I'm left wondering what happened to it. Having made content back in my working life I know this could be labor intensive if you supported the audio with visual reminders of each car.
You guys has never seen a 1933 Studebaker president straight 8 engine it look great with the top up.just over 50 of these were make. And my friend has 1 of 1 only left .very beautiful.
If I won the lottery I would buy a duesenberg bring it over to irontrap and let matt hotrod it. Matt can make the car look ratty using steel wool and Sandpaper...it would cut the value in half but increase my Level of smiling 50 times...driving a duesi on gravel roads in the autmn
1. Tatra 613 (1978 or earlier) (there is just no other big limousine with an air-cooled V8 in the rear) 2. Moskvitch 411H (neatly styled late 50s station wagon that's 4WD) 3. Adler 2,5Liter Limousine (I just love that streamlined body and a nice inline 6 with 2 carbs from factory is also pretty cool) (I'm from the ex communist part of Europe… just sayin'…)
Lots of hate... yup. Ok moving on to better shit... #3- laid out 39 Lincoln zephyr (yes how typical🙄) or a custom COE zephyr truck #2- 54 Chevy COE/burb body cuustom #1- 39 Hudson coupe
The 4 cars that I would like to have are 1962 American Rambler Classic because my step grandfather has one that I bought from him but was sold by my mom while I was in the military ! A 1966 Ford Fairlane 2door hardtop with the 289 which was my 2nd car but my sister wrecked it ! A 1968 or 1969 Dodge Dart GT 2 door hardtop with a 318 my 3rd car but my mom wrecked it ! A 1957 Chevy Bel Aire 2 door hardtop with V8 like one my uncle had when I was young !
My list of top three (unlimited choices) of cars would not be super pricey. 1932,(probably a fenderless 4Drsedan) Ford, a 1956 Chevrolet 4dr Hardtop, and a 1971 Plymouth Superbird (a phantom build, as the factory never made a 1971: heck why not - a convertible Superbird). The last choice would custom built so it would be spendy. So many others, Duesenberg, Stainless Steel early 40"s, late 30"s Ford Phaeton, 1948 Tucker, Glass top mid 50''s Ford or Mercury 2dhtp, early 50's Hudsons (Nascar winners), late 40's to mid 50's Packard convertibles, 1938 Buick 4dr convertibles, 1962 Pontiac Tempest w/ rear transaxle and transmission. 1965 Pontiac GTO, 1957 Pontiac Bonneville Conv. w/Fuel injection, 1965 Corvair Hdtp. Just a few of the notable styling and technologically significant cars. The longer I dwell on this subject, the more that will come to mind. If you are ever in the Tampa area the Tampa Bay Automobile Museum is of note, "each vehicle was chosen based on the engineering achievements that made an important part of the evolution of the automobile". It is an interesting collection of the inventive scope of technology that the automobile inspired. Hope you will be able to tour it someday. C. J.
You guys need to watch Bad Chad in Australia n see the Car. Club Cars he Shows n those Cars are in Mint Condition n they have Convertable Cadillacs n 60s Chevy impala Wagon

LOVE you guys chatting on Sundays! My top three would be a 65 Shelby GT350, a 56 Ford Sustomline SW and your Ruined Roadster when completed!

Gotta agree, black is the best color on the '58 Caddy IMO. My personal top 3:
1.) 1940 Ford Tudor Sedan.
Truly enjoyed this topic.. There's way too many choices for me. But I would go with a 1956 BMW 507 Convertible, 1947 Olds 98 Convertible, 1970 Olds 442 W30.
When my dad came back from overseas he bought a brand new 58 Pontiac tri-power. He sold it in 65 when he went to Vietnam. He still misses that car

I can totally get down with the 58’ Cadillac. To me the 57-58 cars were much better looking than the 59 cars
Unpopular opinion but I agree!

Moon be like “ain’t care “ 😀
Moon's favorites are whichever smell like mouse turds.
just want to say what a grate show keep it up
Thanks for watching!
My all time favorite car is the 1958 Chevy Impala.
Thanks for watching/listening!
1999 TVR Tuscan- I saw them in person while living in the UK. Citroen DS convertible. 1937 Talbot-Lago- did I mention I used to live in the UK?
Do you mean the famous teardrop car, the Goute d'Eau?
Thanks for asking - I was recently thinking that an update on the status of all the ITG cars would be interesting. I subscribed to your channel during the '39 tudor. (I just saw that car on a RoadKill episode) Usually when a car is no longer in your videos I'm left wondering what happened to it. Having made content back in my working life I know this could be labor intensive if you supported the audio with visual reminders of each car.
Not a bad idea! We can do an episode on past and future project status/updates
Mine is a 67 - 68 Shelby mustang....I like the Packard and the station wagons .....😎👍
You guys has never seen a 1933 Studebaker president straight 8 engine it look great with the top up.just over 50 of these were make. And my friend has 1 of 1 only left .very beautiful.
Iron city garage has a nice 60 wagon for 6 thousand. Nice
Just stretch a model A and throw in an LS, you wont know the difference.
69 Lincoln MK III, 1950's Cadillac's, Cord, XK Jaquars
1966 Bonneville. 1959 Chrysler 300E. 1941 Cadilac
I want to see more work om mikes car
1. Tatra 613 (1978 or earlier) (there is just no other big limousine with an air-cooled V8 in the rear)
2. Moskvitch 411H (neatly styled late 50s station wagon that's 4WD)
3. Adler 2,5Liter Limousine (I just love that streamlined body and a nice inline 6 with 2 carbs from factory is also pretty cool)
(I'm from the ex communist part of Europe… just sayin'…)
Alfa GTV, Lincoln Mk8, Ferrari F40 with custom luggage,
Do a special on moons lump on his tail, where, why, when, people need to know

The 4 cars that I would like to have are 1962 American Rambler Classic because my step grandfather has one that I bought from him but was sold by my mom while I was in the military ! A 1966 Ford Fairlane 2door hardtop with the 289 which was my 2nd car but my sister wrecked it ! A 1968 or 1969 Dodge Dart GT 2 door hardtop with a 318 my 3rd car but my mom wrecked it ! A 1957 Chevy Bel Aire 2 door hardtop with V8 like one my uncle had when I was young !
Dan doesnt get mad
My list of top three (unlimited choices) of cars would not be super pricey. 1932,(probably a fenderless 4Drsedan) Ford,
a 1956 Chevrolet 4dr Hardtop, and a 1971 Plymouth Superbird (a phantom build, as the factory never made a 1971: heck
why not - a convertible Superbird). C. J.
for body style you can not beat 50s olds
i had a 69 super bee 440/6packalmost new cost 1995.00but, if i could find a good one i would enjoy having a 65-falcon Futura sprint v8 standard
I think the caddy would look better without the fin. Just a sloped back. Fins don't do it for me.
If you are ever near Warren Ohio in northeast Ohio there is a Packard museum you will wet your pants.
