Excellent video Chelsea! I have the same unit. I calibrated the unit once,And it's been dead on to the substrate samples. It may not be exact but it's a lot better than guessing.

Hi Chelsea, mils is not a metric measurement. Mils is used in engineering and 1 mil is the same as 0.001 inch. So a mil is one thousandth of an inch.

Great video, very timely for me I just bought this exact paint guage last week and have been trying it out. On a side note, have you ever dealt with newer Mazda paint? My daily driver is a 2022 CX5 and the paint on it is THIN, like crazy dangerous thin (average 20 microns 😳😳) whereas my 22 Mustang is average 80 microns after being corrected and coated... Looked online and saw tons of posts complaining about it. I was hoping to do a paint correction this spring and put a coating on it but I might not now. May just do a quick primer polish and coat over the defects... And it has never been corrected at all to my knowledge. I ordered new and drove it home the day after it arrived.

Hi Chelsea, glad I found this video. You said you polished your car about 4 times. What was the thickness of your car after the polishing. How much clear do you think you removed? I’m going to order one of these. I just do our personal cars, but it seems so necessary. Thank you

Great review video. I will definitely check out this one! Also, hope you’re doing a video on coating your car with Ethos Graphene Matrix. Other reviews I’ve seen show it to be a very user friendly coating and can be used on all exterior surfaces. Doing a coating on my car will be my next step, along with a new polisher!

if i do 2 step cut & polish it will reduce the clearcoat & reading will dropdown, but if i apply ceramic coating or sealant will the reading jump up? or no effect at all because it wont measure anything we apply.

    • @attention2detailswchelsea

Adding a coating or sealant wont add too much thickness (especially a sealant but some coatings can add a few .1-.3 microns but that's rare)
