There are quite a few films on my channel that demonstrate hewing, though mostly softwoods, there are some from the viking-ship build that demonstrate hewing oak and ash. They might be helpful to you for the next time you hew to learn some technical guidelines for reducing the effort needed to hew. I learnt via the living tradition in Norway. I’ve never hewn ash but dread the idea of it. Back when I was learning how to hew timber, I started with an old guy tree. I still feel it, fifteen years later lol
@@HiraethRestorations that ash was the most hateful piece of firewood i ever worked,then it had the gaul to split,so almost 3 wks wasted.To do the same thing to the same size tulip poplar,a day and half,keep up the good work

They look exactly like the red oak floor joists in the oldest part of our home (1760). Good job.
I always love to see old hewn timbers. I get almost philosophical when I’m checking them out on a job for the first time.
