  • Nyarlathotep of the mythos of H.P. Lovecraft in Dark Ambient.

    👉 Part 1 - • Nyarlathotep - Dark M...
    👉 Part 2 - • Nyarlathotep - Dark M...
    👉 Part 3 - • Nyarlathotep - Dark M...
A 190 minute dark soundscape album recorded by 25 ambient artists to pay tribute to H.P. Lovecraft.
Field recordings from the deepest dark corners of 4 continents. Dusty tapes out of forgotten archives. Strings through crackling amplifiers and distorted drone combine into a sea of pitch black.
Nyarlathotep is a manipulative being in the Lovecraftian Mythos. Unlike Cthulhu, or Azathoth, he delights in cruelty and deception. Causing madness is more important than destruction to him.
Smell the burning embers as you kneel outside the sunken temple before Nyarlathotep. Feel the raspy touch of the faceless pharaoh as he leads you to the ancient Pyramid. Hear his inhuman summoning call to gods beyond reality.
    So is this a compilation?
No, this is a collaboration and huge undertaking. 25 artists linked studios and sound for over a year so that they could work with each other. This led to deeper exploration of the Mythos and Nyarlathotep.

I appreciate the hell out of this. I remember Ahn'qiraj, the monolithic structures and deep alien caverns within. Terrifying insect abominations, titan keepers driven mad by the whispers of some unknown but immensely powerful entity. The overwhelming and immeasurably haunting atmosphere of Silithus and Tanaris. It felt as if the raid itself was clawing at your sanity. By far the greatest raid in WoW. I highly highly recommend listening to Ahn'qiraj interior ambience if you like this.

Regarding atmosphere Silithus was slightly more amazing before it was filled with content to set the path for the upcoming Ahn'Qiraj raid. Before there were only very few quests you got from a little camp at the entrance of the zone. And then there was nothing else than sand, insects, tunnel structures and the huge (closed) gate of Ahn'Qiraj. Everything you'd heard was the sounds of the insects and the wind blowing. Looking across the dunes you got the feeling you are not very welcomed. It was great.

@@Hamurator aye , and later contents 'theme park on rails' style only shows how much a good simple straight forward open world and a pinch of ambiance can get people hooked far more.
bairly a memorie of exploring or trying to get places in its expansions after tbc....loads of memories of classic climbing mountens or tricking oneself into tunels to explore em. makes you sort of curious how a the true open world of it would feel if it was remade in complete 'rangaros scorched the intire eastern kingdoms' and 'the qiraj devouerd all of kalimdor and the elfs new world tree' dystopian style.... guess all have to play undeads though so that evry single city could be nothing but windsweept or half molten ruins giving testament to the last futile ditch defenses

Thank you Cryo Chamber. I just purchased the 3 cd box set of Nyarlathotep.
I remember the year I discovered the literature of H.P. Lovecraft.
I discovered astounding literature & fantastic music that summer.
    It was 1976.
    I was 15.
It was a momentous year living in the midwest.
Spring-time storms of biblically dark thunderheads stabbed the house across my street with lighting.
My friends and I gasped & giggled in class about the frightening movie we saw called "Carrie".
At my buddy's house we listened to his newly purchased album; "Alice Cooper Goes to Hell".
I bought a new heavy metal album called "Sad Wings of Destiny" by a new group named "Judas Priest".
Listening to it became my obsession.
I bought a collection of stories by an author other than Edgar Rice Burroughs named H.P. Lovecraft.
I was so shocked & intrigued by the book of weird tales that I went back to the book store and bought the one other Lovecraft collection they had.
Reading H. P. Lovecraft became another obsession.
Walking through vast fields of tall golden corn I wondered about Dunwich horrors and if I could run away from something I couldn't see.
I drew a complex ink drawing of "The Whisperer in Darkness" in art class that fall semester.
I couldn't stop trying to visualize things that would drive you mad if you actually saw them.
I couldn't stop thinking about the newly found dangerous dark cosmos I'd discovered in the literature of H.P. Lovecraft.
I couldn't stop listening to Rob Halford singing about gothic creatures and a... "figure that floated beneath the willow trees".
I couldn't stop looking at comic-book horrors that were illustrated in Warren magazines like Eerie & Creepy & Vamperella.
    I couldn't stop reading Howard P. Lovecraft.
I hunted through my local library.
These new ideas rose up from the sea of my young imagination swimming with primordial pre-adult-life and with rubbery claws they seized my tender teenaged DNA.
    They twisted.
    They shaped.
    They ripped open.
Pop-culture behemoths of literature & music pulled open my world.
They revealed a vast strange eternal midnight universe that was ever rotating like a record ‘round an eons-old unknown alien-god-thing.
    Un-known that is, until then.
Ever afterward, I could feel the great CTHULHU watching me.
Gazing on my running form as I crossed through my teen-years into my adult-hood and into old-age.
I stepped more carefully through the golden corn.
I was afraid I'd trip and fall through an invisible door-way into an alien-dimension.
    Lost forever.
My DNA was now mutated to be receptive to this strange new mythos.
A Lovecraftian mystery-history that would keep revealing more of itself from HPL & his scribe followers for the rest of my life.
If 1969 was "The Summer Of Love".
Then, at least for me, 1976 was "The Summer Of Love-CRAFT".

I'm doing a horror based DnD campaign (as a huge fan of cosmic/lovecraftian horror) and using this as the ambience for my players is amazing. They told it helps set the feeling of dread and unease that something is always watching and waiting and following.

21:12 is when the real treat begins. So much of this dark ambient drone serves to take you somewhere. But where? Drifting, drifting, drifting. Going where? 21:12 begins to answer that question. The dark choral choir begins their chants. Something is happening. Eventually a melody begins to infuse itself into the dark ritualistic drone. What's happening? Who is coming?

I always saw Cleopatra as much more sensual and intelligent than has been portrayed before.
Regal not just in title but nature because she understood power in an understated manner..
I imagine that when she moved her garments flowed from her body in a tantalising and appeasing way. the material moving effortless.. as if to catch her presence leaving as she walked foward..
head held high but not in arrogance..
her sparkling eyes drinking in the surrounding environment..
Her movements lithe and cat like with agility and strength..
Each step taken emitting an energy around her that had the ability to captivate even the hardest of hearts..
her moves at times slow but purposefully for she was in no need to rush.
Upon bathing in her milk baths relaxing and slinking beneath the liquid, her bronzed skin delighted at the calming affect, allowing in the musicians melodies with her ears causing the sounds within the room to invite magnificent mind image..
the candles flickering, casting dancing shadows upon the surrounding walls and ceiling.
Though powerful, always considering the men around her for beauty alone is not valuable..
No, I believe she understood her own power much greater than that..
her love affair with Marc Antony being only capable because of such understanding..
Both with knowledge of how to seduce and yet needing a mind equal enough to encourage and excite.. ignite her deep passions.. to stir the embers of the furnace within her own heart.. and mind.
Needing to be challenged but not disrespected..
her own confidence flowing from within.. yet those who sought her approval needed to be worthy of such a thing.. not because she was neccesarily cruel or heartless.. but rather she didn't like to have her time wasted.
Prefering to instead bide her time
There's a difference between having needs or various lovers and allowing a person into the much more intimate areas of the heart.
    Eventually bored with such frivoulness
Upon finding such a man.. taking her time to watch with great interest..
needing to understand the cause of her own attraction .. guarding her heart even in seemingly intimate situations before, though he affecting her on a different level unknown to herself before..
Making it seem much more dangerous and yet also increasing the passion and desire, though at times conflicting with her own feelings of self control.
While that may not be accurate historically.. it's how I see her.
This is the sort of thing I was come against for.. silenced and accused of being schitzophrenic for.. having an imagination. Oh and saying I like Eminem's music because apparently that's extremely sinful.. that and not going to church yet believing in Jesus. Wanting to be an encourager and see people healed.

I bought this album some time ago, long time fan of dark ambient and lots of similar stuff. Recently I've got into tabletop rpg's again, after 15+ years. Bought the newest edition of Call of Cthulhu and grabbed Masks of Nyarlathotep. Great times for getting back at it! Deep, atmospheric soundtrack for a scary and disturbing campaign! What a combo! It couldn't be better than this, at least not for that game, it should be labeled as the official soundtrack for the campaign.

The real question here is, have you ever had the delicious savoriness of human brain? Octo-creature must feed...

Can you explain the process by which this large group of artists created the album? Was it bits and pieces stitched together to make the whole, or was it a mesh of methods that formed the entirety?
Also, can you explain any of the knowledge the group gained from studying Nyarlathotep and the Mythos, or is it subconscious understanding?
    Thank you for the music.

If i purchase this can I use it in a mission for Arma 3? It's set in post apoclyptic world STALKER style. It's obviously non profit. But many may be exposed to the music.

I am searching a special track where we can hear a calm and deep breathing, like a sleeping giant. Any idea where I can find it ? I heard it here on Cryo chamber, on the monorail. Thanks !!
