    For the analysis of the li-ion cylindrical cell, what material input did you consider? For example, for the outer casing of the cell, the two terminals, etc

    • @dhyanpatelbitspilanitotamu1520
      @dhyanpatelbitspilanitotamu1520  3 роки тому +1

      For the thermal simulations, we have made a single part of cell body and not differentiated between the casing, terminals and bus bars.
      In general our first choice will be for
      The outer casing - Aluminium
      Cell body - Standard Li-ion cell
      Electrodes - High Conducting Material but otherwise less reactive like carbon
      Busbars - High Conducting Metal like copper or brass
      I hope, I have clarified your query.

      @dhyanpatelbitspilanitotamu1520  Рік тому

      Thank you for the appreciation. Sadly I have not considered any situation of thermal runaway. Because primarily our objective was to check for highest temperature which can occur in a general cell which has common power requirements. The secondary goal was to reverse the simulation data to find how much convection heat transfer is required in case our power requirements increase beyond a point.
      Also, I did not have the required knowledge on modelling thermal runaways. I am still working to improve this project. So, I would be rather interested if you can share the knowledge you have regarding thermal runaway.
      Let me know your thoughts.

      Hello,
      I got the values from a research paper. There, the authors had used a method of equivalent to electrical circuit to estimate heat generation with constant and pulsating current during charging and discharging. The values were validated using calorimeter. So, I have had no hand in actual calculation of the internal heat generation values.

      Till we perform a direct thermal analysis, we need not define tabs as we directly provide heat generation value. But for any module where I need to provide electrical inputs such as C rate, current required, internal resistance, etc. I will put the tabs at top and bottom faces.

    Nice explanation, I would like to know why you decided to use surface cooling rather than axial cooling.

    • @dhyanpatelbitspilanitotamu1520
      @dhyanpatelbitspilanitotamu1520  2 роки тому

      Thanks buddy.
      I am not sure what are you referring as axial cooling. But anyways, the surface cooling would provide more surface area for heat transfer to occur. I agree, if you though so, that the core material has larger conductivity in height-wise direction and hence we should put cooling mechanism at the top and bottom face rather than the lateral surface. But in this case, the assembly of cells in a module with cooling mechanism becomes tough because we have electrode tab connections and busbars also at the top and bottom face.
      Let me know if your query is resolved otherwise can discuss more on it.

    Dhyan, can you please answer the following two questions-
    1. Did you consider the thermal contact resistance in your simulation?
    2. How did you calculate internal heat generation rate in the cells?

    • @dhyanpatelbitspilanitotamu1520
      @dhyanpatelbitspilanitotamu1520  2 роки тому +1

      Thanks for contacting me.
      Answer to Question 1: no, thermal contact resistance between the current collector to the busbar or an electrical wire is not considered.
      Answer to Question 2: There could be multiple approach. What we have used is as follows. We have used the concept of Joule's heating. As per the requirement of the vehicle, we know the total power requirement. And based on the used electric cell characteristics, we know the voltage and internal resistance of the cell. As per the arrangement of cell in our module, we know the voltage drop and current flowing in each cell. So, we can use the relationship ( Heat Generated = Current * Current * Resistance ), to find the heat generated.

    • @dhyanpatelbitspilanitotamu1520
      @dhyanpatelbitspilanitotamu1520  3 роки тому

      Yes definitely.
      For the case of 2W of internal heat generation and coolant heat transfer coefficient of 100 W m^-2 C^-1 on the selected surface of pouch cell and ambient temperature of 25 degree Celsius, the maximum temperature is 33.4 degree Celsius, minimum temperature is 31.8 degree Celsius and average temperature is 32.75 degree Celsius.
      You should understand and appreciate the fact that since our analysis is completely parametrized, we can try will different conditions on our cell and get the output for average temperature, so the results (actual numbers) keeps varying but the trend remains the same.
      I hope, I made it clear.

      Hello,
      We used the duct thickness of 0.5 mm. While this can be varied and optimized to cost vs. heat transfer capacity. Geometry of cooling duct is thought from the type of cell we used and aiming to have highest amount of heat transfer surface. Hence, for the cylindrical cell, having that curved shaped cooling duct attached at the lateral surface can have high heat transfer area, allowing for high potential to cell cooling.
      I hope this helps.

      For any input condition, you can find an option of 'Function' under the value option. But there you would be only allowed to use limited number of variables.

      Hi bro ,
      I have been working on battery simulation using Ansys fluent for sometime , many batteries with different chemistries and sizes and matched well with experiment . But I have this very small battery that I could not match the surface temperature and I think this model does not consider internal resistance or the results do not match the experimental results due to internal resistance .
      Now I have the surface temperature data of this small battery that I measured in the lab as well as discharge curves , and I want to do parametric study ; you know heat generation, internal resistance so that I can match the experimental surface temp as well as the discharge voltage curves
      That’s all

      We can try some trial and error boundary conditions to match the experimental data you have collected.
