How to Define Human Thermal Comfort? || Which Parameters define it? HVAC Project Basic Foundation
Design Project using ANSYS FLuent on Thermal Comfort
I am grateful to Prithvi Ramesh, Department of Mechanical Engineering, BITS Pilani - Goa Campus.
His research interest lies in the application of Computational Fluid Dynamics for Aerospace.
The video includes:
How to Guage the level of comfort of humans?
Definition of Human Comfort
Thermal Comfort Parameters
PMV Predicted Mean Vote
Optimal Range - Hot or Cold
PPD Predicted Percentage of Dissatisfied
Empirical Equation
Personal Parameters - Metabolic Rate, Clothing Insulation
External Parameters - Air Temperature, Air Velocity, Mean Radiant Temperature, Relative Humidity
Inputs of Energy Balance
The 21st century has witnessed an unprecedented increase in volumes of people travelling through air. Before the corona virus pandemic more than 7000 flights took off and landed in one day all around the world. With the industry poised to return to pre-pandemic levels of service within a few years, a lot of attention has been paid to improving comfort of passenger’s on-board flights by aircraft manufacturers and airlines alike in particular the thermal comfort of humans inside aircrafts. But what exactly is Thermal comfort? Thermal comfort is a psychological feeling of satisfaction with the thermal conditions surrounding a human being. Is a person satisfied or dissatisfied with the environment around him/her? Is it too hot or cold? Is it too humid and sweaty? The project covered in the video series aims to understand thermal comfort using empirical parameters and apply these generic concepts to aircraft and to study the environment inside a typical aircraft cabin (the short-haul Airbus A320 is one of the most common forms of flight today and has been chosen for this study).

This is very educative! I would like to have parametrize a model into scaled versions, slice them in spaceclaim and import those geometry to other systems analysis in workbench. Considering these two operations, is there a way to parametrize it such that I could use different scales of the original model and slice those models at a certain depth for say about 15 models and keeping exporting them for other analysis? Hello, i have problem in my model create results no accurate contour apply on geometry . Please guide
Don't we see results for i.e. not changing results with refining mesh , for mesh independence?
Test centre is available in my city so i should prefer at center or at home?
At test center is preferable in this case.
So is Ti equal to your HDD or CDD value?
No, HDD and CDD is number of hours or days for heating and cooling respectively. Ti is indoor temperature.

Hello sir! I have a hexahedral multi-block structured mesh in ICEM CFD, I got some results from this mesh. Now, I have to do a mesh independence test. Please tell me which is the correct way to increase the number of mesh elements: Should I 1) Re-mesh the whole geometry with smaller element size 2) increase the number of nodes in each block. 3) increase the scale factor like 1.2 or 1.3 etc.... Thank you!
Hey, Thanks for reaching out. Without much details about the geometry, it is difficult to give any clear suggestion. However, in general I would try to increase nodes/elements in areas where there is more stress, bending, etc. I can use a sphere of required radius and assign a smaller element size in that sphere. And use that sphere in all such locations where I expect more stress. I hope that is useful. Else I would suggest to send me some clear screen shots of your geometry and current mesh on my email.

Sir I don’t understand that the exam centre is where and how to apply for exam centre
You need to go to ETS website, and setup your account, register yourself for the test, make the payment. Then you have the choice to select exam date and location. There would be a video related to that regarding GRE.
how can we paramterize diameter of a circle? Please answer, I am unable to do that. Thank you.
I hope you have created the geometry using a script as shown in this video. For the circle, when you select to make circle using the button on top menu, there would be options to define circle using different parameters such as 3 points on circle, center and diameter, center and a point on circle, etc. These are different ways to define circle and when you select center and diameter as two parameters, then you can get these two parameters. I hope you got the answer.
wait are you writing backwards?
Not actually! Great that you noticed! Actually the captured video is flipped with y-axis so I filled again and so it looks writing backward.
THANKS. VALUABLE INFORMATION
Welcome!
nice
Thanks!
Thank you! What formulas would you use for Beta in other types of control charts (c, u, p, np, etc.)?
Great question! I haven't touched this things in a while now. From my distant memory, I think there were ways to convert one type of probabilistic distribution to normal distribution and then standard normal distribution. In that way, the given formula will be useful. Otherwise, you can always use the theoretical definition of probability below and above the control limits in any distribution and take their sum to get beta. Hope you got some idea. Let me know if not.
@@dhyandpatel132 thank you. I believe c and u use Poisson distributions and Beta can be found by using a cumulative poisson formula. Still need some more details on that front, but I appreciate it!
If you can find more info on this, I would be highly appreciative. Thank you!

How can we decide about mesh quality while looking at more than one quality parameter, if element quality is good but skewness is bad what will we do ?
I use to primarily look at element quality. If my element type and size (at corners and thin layers specifically) is correctly defined at the first step, then only element quality is enough.
@@dhyandpatel132 Thank you so much what is the "criterion for correct element size and type
@@okhwatnoornoor8893 Usually I looked at thin parts in my model. In general, I would try to keep 3 elements across the thin section. And if there are multiple bodies in a model, I would use larger size elements in other area.
I believe looking at other videos in this playlist on Meshing will give you some idea. And you can also check one of my interaction videos (3 total) where we did live recording while meshing a body.
thanks
