I think it's more that being perceived to be really smart is often antithetical to being funny. Jokes don't hold up to being analysed it's usually more about the vibe. Norm macdonald famously ridiculed people who tried to be too smart, and he always played the fool on purpose.
These two should make a sitcom together. Two brothers just moved in to new york sharing an apartment. Mark trying to make as a comedian and Lex trying to complete his phd or sth.
Mark has been in a league of his own with comedy the last few years. No duds. He truly never misses. Obviously a really thoughtful guy.. crazzyy smart too
vulnerable mark was something beautiful to see. Lex is great at bringing these things out. we all go through hardship so seeing people we admire be so human speaks to our soul. Great episode lex
Lex was too serious. He barely even laughed when Mark was being hilarious. He came out of the gate hilarious and Lex just couldn't go there. It almost felt like his vulnerability inducing questions were a defense mechanism to cover up his uncomfortability to engage in banter. Many people like Bobby Lee have brought up Mark Normand's past growing up in Treme and it was still hilarious.
You have to be smart to be a good comedian. Almost all the great comedians are intelligent. Mark mentioned before that his brother went to Berklee at 17 years old so obviously intelligence is in his family.
Im so glad you had Mark Normand on. He's the best. One of a dying breed. Two shades of brilliant sitting across from each other, I can't wait to listen.

"Do you think love can last?" Absolutely it can, and does. The love between a parent and child. The love between a person and their pet. The love between lovers. Sometimes it feels as if it turns to hate, but it's just a result of us feeling our love is not being reciprocated equally, and then the hurt just masks the underlying love that still remains. Love is a river that will twist and turn. Sometimes it can be shallow. Sometimes you feel you are drowning within it. Sometimes it carves a canyon that is deep and beautiful to behold, teeming with life on the surface and in the crevices. Love is what we make it. "It's work," just as Mark Normand states. The payoff is worth it, and it can indeed be everlasting.
Always great interviews from Lex, but this one in particular is one of my favorites! Ha ha, the contrast between these guys and how they interact was really fun to watch.

new to the Lex podcast, but i really really enjoy it. he asks very real hard hitting questions, and you know that by how caught off guard some of his guests are. He's also hilarious in his own way.
It is so clear on Lex how he overthinks things, the reaction he gives after stating that death by some means is not interpreted as the end by human beings, the irritation on not being able to rationalize it completely is just on point.

This pod was soo good. Normand can be on ANYONE's pod and shine. Love the more intellectual side mark shows here.
The pods with you and comedians are my favorite . You bring another side of them out that they typically don’t let out to the world via internet
I’m really starting to enjoying lexs podcasts recently. He asks questions that I would want to ask people like the kind of deeper questions about how people think and feel about themselves and what makes them tick. I’m interested in the same way about people I interact with. I feel distant to others and I guess that’s why I feel curious about their own experiences
Never noticed but now that Mark points it out, Lex really does give of imp vibes. Sophisticated but mischievous
new to the Lex podcast, but i really really enjoy it. he asks very real hard hitting questions, and you know that by how caught off guard some of his guests are. He's also hilarious in his own way.
I cannot believe it, two of my favourite podcasts, I'm a big Tuesgay!! Thanks guys.
It is so clear on Lex how he overthinks things, the reaction he gives after stating that death by some means is not interpreted as the end by human beings, the irritation on not being able to rationalize it completely is just on point.
Normand is amazing, everyone’s second favorite comedian
Louis CK still hold the mantle for me but yes, Bill Burr is my second Dave is my third and Mark Normand is my fourth. Oh I guess the second didn't holdupFATTY
Hahahahahahahah. Didn't know that was a thing. My second favorite comedian as well.
