Got my license in August, driving a 250cc big scooter since. Rented a ninja 400 (I think same model as yours, but with definite ABS) for a few days now and went on a hourlong ride today. I was worried that jumping on a sports bike will be different, new and intimidating. But it rides so easy I think a baby could do it. Engine delivers power super smooth, no wacky shifting, not shooting away, engine not stalling, blipping on downshifts worked almost perfect from the very first try (though I already practiced that on the driving school's Honda CB400 SF while I was taking lessons). And then I found out about the quick shifter, making even the clutch on upshifts optional, lol. Long story short, I rode a Ninja 400 about 3 months after I last sat on a manual motorcycle (for the first time) and it felt like second nature after a single round around the block. Tons of fun shifting up and down, giving a bit more throttle on a green light, some mountain road riding in 4th gear. Definitely want to buy the ninja 400 as my first bike. It was perfect in every way. Never felt like I wasn't in control. Never felt intimidated by the throttle. It's super responsive, can go fast or slow, sounds great, looks great, a fun package. As I never rode any other bike besides the SuperFour and the Ninja now, I can't give any "this bike is best for X, that bike is good if you want Y" recommendations, but just riding that 400 has made me confident that this is exactly the bike I want to own. Every gear, from stop to 6th, felt incredibly smooth. No jerks, nothing. It's so insanely easy. Now I wonder how a ZX 4 RR would feel, given that it has twice the cylinders and 80 bhp instead of 48. The 400 never felt like it has more power than I could handle, but I have not yet fully unleashed its full potential either (like redlining the gears, not viable where I live). It weighs less than my big scooter and feels so nimble, you can lean into sharp turns without the fear of losing grip. I'm still stunned.
I still have the predecessor of this bike, 2015 Ninja 300 ABS, got it new, current ODO 44.000 K miles, did some light mods like, actual sport tires, K&N filter, Carbon fiber 2bros exhaust...mostly I spent time on mountain twisty roads, handles so great, so much fan, I love that bike, will keep until wheels fall off and hope that's not going to happen 🙂...
I just got one of these for my teen son, who’s been riding dirt bikes since he was little, as his first street bike. I’ve been riding for over 40 years, and I think this little Ninja is an absolute BLAST to ride. The build quality is excellent and nothing feels cheap. Awesome.
how is 650cc lower cc . that is middleweight even the 400cc is almost middleweight . lower cc would be 300 , 250 , 125 , 50 those are certainly smaller bikes
The wife picked up a 2024 Ninja 500se for her first bike in July. She loves it, great bike for her to learn on. And honestly I love jumping on her Ninja from time to time too. It's so agile compared to my CBR650r, can just throw the thing around so easily. Very flickable. Blast to ride.
I bought one of these for commuting and track after I got smoked by a Ninja 400 on my R6 at NCBike. I absolutely love it and made me faster on my R6. I use it mostly for commuting now, but I still absolutely love it. The Spears clutch spring upgrade is really helpful if you track it.
I have a 2021 Z400 and I love everything about it besides the mirrors and the seat. It has abs too! I wonder what a fully fared sports bike feels like though ..😊
Are you planning on doing a review of the 2024 Ninja 500? From what I understand; it's the same engine as the 400 with more power in the low end. I'd love to have your take on the differences like the display and the riding position and comfort.
What is your choice between a ZX4RR....(same engine size but a TOTALLY DIFFERENT ride with that screaming machine)...Would love your input between the two. I want the latter for the sound and joy factor!
I own the Ninja 400 and my buddy has the ZX4RR. I have to say I love my 400 WAY more! So much low end torture to have fun with the parallel twin. The sound of the ZX4RR is amazing though, I just don’t care for the power band as I kicks in so high on the RPM range. Both are solid but for city streets, I’d go with the 400
Hi, I’m a new rider and I’m struggling to be consistent with practical u turns, any tips? I can easily and reliably do 17’ u turns in a parking lot but when I do a 17’ in my driveway to park I occasionally end up in the grass. Any tips for getting over the fear of doing a u turn in a fixed space that is sloped?
really focus/work on your clutch control and get comfortable with the friction zone. you should be counter balancing as it will help you make those tight u-turns. just get more seat time in.
It depends on what kind of riding you like to do. If you want to go fast in a straight line, this won't be a good bike for you. If you want to ride twisties this is a great bike even for people who've been riding for years. I had one for a few years and would still have it if it didn't get stolen.

you mean 12k. I have bounced mine off the rev limiter at 12k a few times and that is where it shows the dial going red.
