Even through a UA-cam video, Dame Judi makes us feel the magic of a 400-year old poem. Compare this to any other sonnet performance and you will find that this is utterly superior. dame Judi not only understands Shakespeare, but the sonnet form itself. This is true mastery.
Absolutely
Listening to her quote Shakespeare is simply mesmerizing.
Judi Dench & Patricia Routledge - doesn’t get any better than that!
I cannot bear the thought of losing Dame Judi, this brilliant unassuming gift to the world. As she ages she gets even better! I love her spirit, feisty and brilliant, giving us the best of herself for all these years.
I start looking for peoples do shakespeare's sonnet since i saw Dame Judi Dench recite one of them kn Graham Norton. Her reading, expression, and the emotions that she delivered was something extraordinary and felt like it was her own experience.
I found many actors and actresses recite the shakespeare's sonnet, but none delivered it like Dame Judi Dench.
Same here.
Same. Now I also look for her recitals.
Same
I’ve been doing the same thing. She’s phenomenal!
This sonnet, a masterwork, is not only unimpeded but is humanised in her reading. Shakespeare and Dench are two artists synchronized like two birds in flight. Brava!
Be
what a description!
Judi Dench is a National Treasure.
The LIVE spoken word of Shakespeare never fails to move me. Well done Dame Judi 🥰
She's so stunning! She does an "off the cuff" sonnet on Graham Norton as well. Just as movingly, too.
I think it was the " When I have fears..." sonnet, a real fave of mine. And she held the audience in a state of stunned silence. With just her voice.
@@SandraNelson063 *Yes!* ❤
When Dame Judi Dench performs Shakespeare, you cannot hear a pin drop. She is so captivating, talented and always brings a happy tear to my eye.
I see the wonderful Patricia Rutledge there too. Fabulous dames both of them.😊
My friend had this poem read at her wedding. Perfect.
Judi is incredible as several legends in their own rights sit listening behind her!
Every single legend on stage is a Dame
You just gave me a vision of Gyles Brandreth doing panto.
Pure Class.
Dear Hearts, chills and tears. Dame Judi Dench brings up so much emotion. A beautiful sonnet. She is a treasure. All Love
That’s Patricia Routledge listening right behind Dame Judi. Lovely to see her.
Wow wow wow and what a line up of national treasures…..
Her voice and delivery are just perfect.
Must see. Dame Judi is an icon and a National treasure, and for very good reason. Through her I have become interested in Shakespear and I will be forever grateful to her. Listening to her just now she’s made me cry
#DenchdoesShakespeare
She is, quite simply, incredible!
A wonderful reading. She got all the stresses right and all the cadences. (I taught Shakespeare at a university for more than fifty years.) Beautiful!
Early Modern English is a foreign language to native speakers of modern English but she has fully acquired it-apart from the accent of course.
Bravo. Beautiful woman. Beautiful deliverance.
Absolutely amazing! I could listen to her do Shakespeare for hours!
Thank you : )
The legend this is …Dame Judi Dench ✨💕
Ladies and gentlement, Dame Judi Dench ❤❤❤

Simply fabulous!
Goosebumps!!!!!❤❤❤❤❤❤!!!!!
Listening to it just makes me start crying. Its truths are so deep and she delivered it so well
She recited what I believe is the 29th, " When I have fears..." sonnet on a talk show, and everyone was stricken mute. She held everyone in the palm of her hand. What a performer.
Wow! She is superb! There will never be anyone as superb at Shakespeare as Dame Judi ❤
Sublime and timeless.
🇦🇺🦘👍
I agree . My sentiments exactly. A truly great sonnet and Dame Judi recites it perfectly. I can't imagine anyone else even coming close to her brilliant delivery .
Please upload the full show
Judi's simply irreplaceable
❤🌹❤
Absolutely astonishing. I love those words.
I liked how you can hear her say at the end "you know that, you could have done that" 😀
Het voice, she is beautiful.
Judi, a national treasure. 😊
just brilliant
Dame Judy Dench ladies and gentlemen.
She is just brilliant.
She is so perfect as a voice for the Bard.
and that's how you do it! X
Can someone get her in a studio to record a whole album or audio book please? I love listening to her.
I would love it if she recorded all of them so we could listen to her recite the whole collection of sonnets. Wouldn't you? If she and Cumberbatch could do them together, alternating, it would be great!
Magic! Just Magic!
My favorite sonnet.
Thank you so much for These Wonderful Videos. These Remarkable Women. Who have contributed so much to our society to the DNA of Britian. Thank you so much for sharing with us a little Glimpse into who they are. I'm going to A Show at The Edinburgh Playhouse in August with Gyles Brandreth and The Wonderful and Remarkable one Dame Judi Dench. I for one Cannot wait. Thank you so much.
I know this sonnet very well. And yet . . . it's as if I had heard it for the first time. Wonderful!
No words to describe her art.
Full confession that if I read Shakespeare, sometimes I'm lost and I miss the mark by quite a lot in understanding. But when I hear her speak it, I get it all. I imagine that if I spoke no English, and if you heard me speak you might think it, and I heard her I would still understand it all. I love hearing her, she's such a gifted actress and lovely human.
Well said, Dame Judi Dench...
❤❤❤❤❤
the other actors watch in admiration 😊
Brilliant!
❤❤❤👏👏👏👏👏👏
Perfection
😍😍😍❤❤❤
The Bucket residence Lady of the house speaking!

Let me not to the marriage of true minds
Admit impediments. Love is not love
Which alters when it alteration finds,
Or bends with the remover to remove.
O no! it is an ever-fixed mark
That looks on tempests and is never shaken;
It is the star to every wand'ring bark,
Whose worth's unknown, although his height be taken.
Love's not Time's fool, though rosy lips and cheeks
Within his bending sickle's compass come;
Love alters not with his brief hours and weeks,
But bears it out even to the edge of doom.
If this be error and upon me prov'd,
I never writ, nor no man ever lov'd.
💜☄️🌌
Proof positive that Shakespeare is meant to be spoken not read, especially by a talented person like Dame Judi Dench.
Out of context, no set, no costumes, just a lady talking. So why am I crying...?
god level
Wow…
That is how to speak a sonnet.
Sigh. Sublime.
I think Maureen Lipman looked quite emotional. Judi really is wonderful
Sonnet 116: Let me not to the marriage of true minds

Don’t judge me please, but what is this from?
It’s Sonnet 116 :)
Is Twiggy there?! ❤
Judi, hyacinth, patsy. Unbelievable
Sonnett 116 is the one most Shakespearean Actors recite. It is a very popular piece. The best version I've seen is the version Sir Laurence Olivier did. Of course Sir Laurence was the master.
without the british empire, nobody would know shakespeare...
"you know that, you could've done that." seriously? it's not enough that ms dench is so good, but that she might've let someone else do it.
Listen to Olivier do this....
Dick Cavet with Olivier.
Wish you guys run wild like true Olympic champions in further 190 countries world wide because... Shakespeare wanted it so. He wanted to put the WORDS power above all...and we still have to live like perfect victims of those who do not want to listen any reason at all, only violence and war disputes are their ...big losers decisions. Shakespeare loved to use death on a theater stage and force the audience focus on life instead...still, we have to live under death threat like condemned to jail for life with no guilt because murdering us before time is the biggest achievement above all, very funny indeed. No matter what we do, we are dead meat, what's life worth living if not being already dead? Therefore we need the parallel universe created there on a theater stage, learning to live and give real life a better use. Murder on the other side of a cinema screen worths a fortune...in the real life instead is our worst disgrace. Wish you get involved and check, Putin's war how much damaged the British welfare, when we have powerful enemies to fight against, well, like Shakespeare would love to say, it's a matter of life and death friends, get in action and never let bad guys win to screw us the joy of life, no matter how powerful might seem the death machine...life wins above all, survivors must carry on ❤🎉❤
No one can do acting like tge Brits
You can not hear, in my humble opinion, Judi Dench recite Shakespeare and not feel a lightness in your heart..
It’s lovely.
But to my simple mind it’s utter nonsense
Grow up. It’s a breakup poem.
wtf
No better than an average drama student. Overrated actress.
I would agree with you, but then sir, we'd both be wrong.
There speaks the voice of an expert. Not
Let’s hear your version, Moran.
