I'm dying to visit Lebanon one day. It's my dream country, there are so many cool looking places and so much history, amazing landscape and no tourists. Only problem is that there aren't lots of cheap flights from central europe to Lebanon.

I love that you offer a nice perspective about Lebanon. I subscribed and I hope you come back there soon! I lived there for 5 years when I went to the American University of Beirut and it was the best 5 years of my life. Such a nice mix of people and religions that you learn and see something new there almost everyday. Highly recommended to go visit, eat, and even party for all those who haven't been.

I was in Lebanon some years ago, and I loved it! Although some times It seemed like if I was in Los Angeles California. But I liked much more Damascus in Syria, more authentic and picturesque and the people so Nice! It is a pity what it happened there. In Lebanon I have just visited Beirut, and Sidon to the south of Beirut!

Hey, lebanese gal here. The reason why that traffic officer stopped you is that in Lebanon it’s forbidden to film or take pictures around military officers because it’s considered spying. We don’t have regular police so technically every officer you see is part of the military. Btw fun fact about the bit around the 4 minute mark, right behind you there is a statue of a pen, it’s in homage of a journalist that was trying to unify religions in lebanon but got killed during the terrorist attacks era, that was about 10 years ago. You might think you’re in a random industrial part of the country but history is everywhere :)

Nick, I think you are the first and only person who visited Beirut who walked from Achrafieh (where I believe you stayed) all the way to that hill! I lived in Lebanon for over 12 years but never seen it from that perspective you are showing.
I walked once from downtown (same square where you visited that mosque) all the way to my home 8KM away and that was quite an achievement for me that day!

Lebanon is interesting to me, while in Iraq I met a few Lebanese people. They looked almost Spanish to me. They were friendly and I exchanged some banknotes as I collected currency over there. Lebanon is unique politically as it has influence of Middle East, US, and Russia. Be safe , also visit US and Russia too. Great work!

Btw, not too many good areas in Baghdad. I want to visit Iraq but it’s not stable enough, so maybe I will consider Lebanon. Wish me luck tryin to convince my wife ! Lol.
Btw Did you have any coffee ? How was it and which type? Espressos, Turkish etc.

A great video! Lovely how the mountains are just by the city grid it seems. My gosh this reminds me of walking from center of Marrakech out past Hivernage to Mhmid 6 . Wonder does it have that sort of moped and scooter exhaust there?

Lebanon is a lovely place, lots of history and some very very good food. All that is great. But it's also right by some [cough] 'trouble spots', so don't be surprised if you say walking where no one else in their right mind would, the police stop you and demand ID etc. This can be very intimidating. -- There's plenty to do and discover in the main downtown zones + regional towns and DIY it for a week or two. - Save the odder treks and police stops for after you've been there a couple of weeks and have got the vibe of things.

It's awesome that you came to Lebanon!! Just gonna throw a fact here! You were talking in the last part about how you can find arab looking Lebanese and European looking Lebanese. And that's because most of Lebanese have mixed ethnicity and not only arab, and a big part of the people have most of their genes caucasian/greek/assyrian/armenian and only a little percentage arab especially Christians. Muslims tend to have more arab genes. But anyway in general Lebanese are actually Phoenicians and not arab if we're talking ancestry and so on. Ps: A lot of people who you saw in Lebanon are not actually Lebanese, you know there are around 2 millions immigrants/refugees mostly from Syria/Egypt/Palestine(Israel) and they usually have a darker skin/arab look more than Lebanese while the Lebanese in general have a lighter skin so that explains why you saw many arab looking lebanese and it's a big chance they were refugees/immigrants.

Bro, Lebanese are fair skinned, they doesn’t look like Arabs at all. We are Cannanites/ Phoenicians, the indigenous ppl of the Levant. We speak arabic bcz we were invaded and arabized (only language) by Arabs from 636AD till 1258AD. Christianity was introduced to Phoenicia in the 1st century and Christianity made up 80% of total population back to 1920. And let’s not forget that according to a study in 2013 “Modern Lebanese are 93% genetically similar to ancient Canaanites “mentioned in the bible”. So saying “Lebanese are Arabs” is logically wrong and disrespectful , it’s like saying “Brazilians are Portuguese” just bcz they speak “Portuguese”
