We had just rescued a year and a half old Skip from a not so nice kennel where he had spent his entire life. A couple of days later was a rare warm beautiful day in the 1st week of January so we thought we'd show our new boy what freedom was and what his new life was going to be so we took him out to the boat slips. He was having a time and got too far away from us to suit me so I called him back. He's so happy and comes charging back to me down the walk way. He's coming in hot and tries to skid to a halt but goes under the rail several feet out into the lake. He goes under and pops up. I get on my belly under the rail reach out and call him. He circles around and frantically comes toward me. It was a tough reach down to the water but I extended and grabbed a handful of hair and snatched him back under the rail and onto the dock. It was an acrobatic move on my part I must say. Shortly after he feel asleep in a warm dry blanket in my wife's arms. The bond was cemented. He passed about a month ago at the age of thirteen and 1/2 and of course took a piece of us with him.

I lost my Lilly dog 2 years ago, The little black dogs really are great.
The wheezy strained laughter is so spot on! Looks like pup didn’t like that and got some water up his nose.
