    They gotta do something about controls in these games too. I had to remap 2 single horizontal joycons so that they could be held vertically, then use the control options in game that allow you to use 2 n64 controllers so you can have 2 sticks. I still have this for N64 and the Xbox 360 HD remaster. The N64 version works with the official wireless controller and a Bitfunx wireless controller receiver, with no detectable input lag. The version Microsoft released over a decade ago...also no input lag on an Xbox Model X! So it's quite impressive Nintendo manages to screw up the game that they're renting out for a monthly fee, a game which originally came out on their own console.

    Nintendo has always been bad at emulating older games. Their pilot wings 64 on the nintendo online is still broken and is impossible to 100% because the 60fps ruined the controlls on the wing diving events because the controll is locked to the framerate. So you cannot dive in a perfect 90% angle instantly.

      @MatthewCenance 3 місяці тому +3

      Sony also failed with emulating older games. Some graphical errors were found on PS2 games emulated on PS4. Same thing with PS1 games emulated on PS4/5 and the new batch of PS2 emulated games. They even had their own Pilotwings 64 style emulation glitch where using Dragoon magic in Legend of Dragoon could cause the game to softlock and become unplayable requiring the game to be reloaded. At least I think they fixed that, unlike Nintendo with Pilotwings 64.

    Nintendo’s inexcusable lack of quality control regarding their N64 emulation is a big part of why I’m somewhat concerned with their enormous financial success. During the Wii U era, while iQue’s N64 emulator was pretty terrible, it could be argued that during that rough era Nintendo didn’t have the resources to overhaul/replace the emulator into something more acceptable. Now that Nintendo is enjoying record-breaking financial success, it’s disheartening to see that they’re fine with drip feeding games to a broken emulator that they expect customers to pay a subscription fee for. It proves to me that with nearly unlimited resources, Nintendo is content with doing as little as possible to make as much profit as possible, and I fear that Nintendo’s piles of money will cushion them many similar blunders like this to come.

    I find Nintendo’s philosophy on this subject highly puzzling. That’s mostly due to ignorance, I can only speculate from my position.
    What I don’t get is why Nintendo doesn’t fight back against illicit ROMs by mastering emulation or offering a better alternative?
    If they don’t think it’s profitable enough to do it right then why are they so threatened by third parties doing it non-commercially?
    It feels very much like twisted corporate logic. You will play old games only through us, you will pay for them, they will be inferior, you better learn to like it.
    Their only motive seems to be turning a quick buck instead of truly investing in the opportunities afforded by modern emulation.

    I think the main problem is that NSO seems like corporate greed from Nintendo. Mainly because originally at the reveal of the Switch they wanted retro games to be Rental basis but quickly backed away from that Idea once everyone got Nintendo overwhelmingly negative feedback. They simply retool it as a perk for online. Which used to be free but because Microsoft then Sony got to charge it and console players accepted the norm. Nintendo did it too, and when Nintendo saw that Microsoft and Sony also gave more premium version of their online Nintendo followed with that business model, with the whole idea of keeping customers on the fear of losing everything if they stop paying and not paying to keep the archive alive. The thing is that Nintendo does have quality and resources to make improvements on their older games such as we can see with Miitopia, Luigi Mansion 2 HD, Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe, Pikmin 1&2, Skyward Sword HD, Metroid Prime Remastered, Mario 3D All Stars, and Fire Emblem Shadow Dragon Limited US run. But they only want to go above and beyond when they need a game to make seem like there is never a drought of the latest next Nintendo title. You can tell that they only want to add games for a marketing stunt. As unless it is bargain bin from the era. Only big must have titles of the console only show up during directs or first few months of the service being revealed. As a stocking and reminded that if you like what you save upgrade today and get a collection of the past. I figured that if they truly cared about preserving the past, they would have fix all of the emulation issues that have been known about for roughly 3 years minimum and kept promises on all of their emulators that they have a new game coming to that service every month. Because a majority of missing must have titles are still known by Nintendo completely.
    I say this as a huge Nintendo nerd who got the Switch day one and preorder most of Nintendo games just so I can be one of the first people to get their hands on playing it. That Nintendo only want to put care into their remasters when they have data to tell them that your nostalgia is now profitable. If not then the game can one day be placed in their archives of games running on a outdated emulator, with the service disappearing when they need to focus on selling the new system.

    To be completely fair and clear, Nintendo Switch Online only runs proper EMULATION for the older games, therefore emulating them as accurately as they would have been in the past. Now, with that out of the way, it IS extremely difficult to get a proper control scheme for Perfect Dark on NSO. With things being as they are, I simply have to recommend the Xbox remake instead, which is the TRUE and MODERN way to enjoy Perfect Dark in all of its glory. The simple fix to this would be to Port the Xbox version over to the Switch store, but I am not going to hold my breath waiting for that to happen. Since PD remake only exists over on Xbox 360, unfortunately, that seems to be the only way to currently enjoy it, at least from my own perspective.
