I have read that when you have hardness of > 100 ppm, to avoid saturation and fouling of the membranes a water softener is recommended before reverse osmosis. Can you please let us know how often you have to change the membranes on your system, or what maintenance you are doing to extend the life of the membranes?

Nicely done, thank you. I really like the system you have installed. I was wondering about the price of your system. My system is about 1500, I use RO water for one shower, ice maker and drinking water. The rest of the house uses ion salt based water-softener system 64k grain. Out side garden water is straight from the well.

I wish I had this when I did my install of this thing almost 3 years ago. Great video!

The water storage tank platform struck me as odd. It is a fun little project, but the Grundfos pumps have a water lift height measured in tens of feet. Ten inches should not bother anything. Maybe it helps with priming as the storage tank does not have to be filled to at least ten inches the first time. However, the pump would suck the tank dry (top of the outlet) if it was on the floor or platform.

I always recommend an water Softener prior to water treatment to avoid your system from clogging

That's fight! If you have hardness it need to be addressed before the RO system. We like to use anti-scalant because it is easier to fill than hauling salt. Either is effective! Thank you for you comment.

For anyone coming across this video like me 3 years later. Know that system he installed is a $15,000 system. But right now, you can get it for the low low price of $9000. If you take his yearly cost of bottled water before the system of around $350. It would take you 25 years before you started seeing a saving and that's not including the maintenance. If you had to pay full price of $15000 it would take 42 years. So, it would be better finically to go with a cheaper system. As you're not likely to own that give house for 25 years and you will not get a return when you sell the house.
In short. You would say yourself $1000 by buying a water filter and salt-based water softener system or saltless system setup for around $2500. You could then buy a Reverse Osmosis setup that goes under your sink for another $450. You would start seeing saving within 2 years and would get a return on the investment.
Don't get me wrong it's a sweet system if you can get one given to you at close to cost. However, if you are going into it thinking you are going to be saving money. That is not going to be the case.

Regarding the union fitting, always place it such that it supports your hand. A left handed person would prefer the other way round to that of a right handed person.

We have really hard water too. We just had a Whole House R/O system installed. Not sure yet about the quality. The water company is guaranteeing high quality drinking water.

Water softeners don't add salt to the water, it's used to regenerate the resin in the tank...

I thought it was better for a RO system to use softened water as it protects the membranes? Is this not the case?

    • @uswatersystems
      @uswatersystems  2 роки тому +4

Yes. Any pre-treatment before a RO will extend the life of the filters.

No, just run the well water through some sediment catchers, like 100>50>25>5 micron filters, then to the RO system, if you can sending Softened water to your RO its just filtering out a lot of salt, you can just use a descaler injection system. This is an option when picking options on US water systems website on the whole house system.

@@ryan74701I'll add to your comment by saying that the filtered salt has to fight its way through the R.O. membranes of these types of systems. What typically happens is that salt residue will form a solid that clogs the drain capillary of the membranes and eventually destroys the membrane altogether. I work in the water treatment field, and softeners are worse for R.O. systems than actual hard water.

Where does that anti scaling chemical go after passing through the RO? To clean water tank?

Thanks for the video The anti scaling system: Does it inject just after the pump and go directly to the membrane? My old system never had this and I no longer want to use a softener (My water is very hard)

We just bought the same system here in Texas hill country...great vid btw. When you say you partnered with US Water...what does that mean? I want to partner with them..assume there was some benefit from that...can you tell me pretty please. Thanks

I could be wrong. However, if the outlet is tapped into an existing garage outlet, it is likely already on a GFCI circuit. Pretty much any new construction garage outlet is GFCI.

What makes US Water systems better than lets say a Crystal Quest system? Crystal seems cheaper. 4k gpd system is only $5900 compares to $10k for US water

The Defender Whole House RO uses all premium made in America parts. It's built to last longer and more efficient. That's why it has a lifetime warranty on the tank and 2 year warranty on all other parts compared to a 1 year limited warranty. Unlike the Quest, It also comes with an ultraviolet disinfection system which eliminates all bacteria.

RO systems create unstable water that can leach metals from the plumbing system (copper/brass) and can cause the water to taste like metal and cause premature failure of valves or piping that is not plastic. Is there a post filter involved with this unit that adds something back into the water to make it stable again?

    • @sinist3r723

I'm not sure about this system but there are some systems that re-mineralize the water to a certain extent to address the issues you're talking about.

Only time there's a difference for male and female ends is when there's a gasket that can blow out on the female ends, but that looks like it has the gasket on the male side, so who knows lol
