This really goes to show just how interesting and tight Generations' design is in general, when compared to titles by Kishimoto. Even when you're an entirely unrelated, considerably slower character, the levels are traversible and fun.
Luckily he makes up for it with his agility and long list of items and abilities. Mario is also fast enough to run up walls, so maybe we can get a mod where Mario feels like Mario but is decently fast.
Likely isn’t happening unless we get a full decomp of 06. The reason this was possible is because mario 64 was reverse engineered by talented fans and completely decompiled.

It's the original Mario 64 engine being run inside the Hedgehog Engine. They used a ROM of SM64 from a decomp to have Generations itself run the game, so you get Mario interacting with the stages as if he was in his original game.
This guy makes SM64's swimming and flying physics look fun in two dimensions.

Everytime I think Generations modding has peaked we get something like this, cursed as it may be, it's so impressive and fun to watch.
