  • Starting about an hour south of Revelstoke, BC at Galena Bay after disembarking from the Upper Arrow Lake Ferry. We travel south on Hwy 23 for just a couple of minutes to it's junction with the seldomly traveled Hwy 31. We'll travel east on the to the small community of Trout Lake where I hope to find some old vintage gas pumps from the 1930s still in use today.

My brother and I were through in April 2024. It's definitely a winding road nice drive, though. We saw the gas pumps, but I'm not sure if they are still in use.
    Thanks for sharing!🇨🇦

If you ever go that way again, take the left turn and head to Beaton. If you think Highway 31 is sketchy, you will appreciate it a whole lot more after, trust me did it once. Friends of mine were in a camp up by Beaton and the road turns into one lane twisting and treacherous with a sheer drop off on one side and cliff walls on the other.

My brother and I we took our trail bike down to Beaton from the Old wood Bridge back in early 80's and caught crazy trout in the creek.

I have not been out that way since 2007. I have photos of the old lady that owned the gas station pumping gas into our truck. If you continued on and take the gravel road you can go to the other end of Trout Lake where their is a forestry rec campsite. You can then continue on to Meadow Creek and then into Kaslo.

Ya it's pretty cool to see them. That's the trip I have planned. Stay tuned for more.

I remember in the 90s that "hwy" was gravel, wasn't it?

Great Video!! You can tell by the slope on the building to the left and the size of the window's, that they get a lot of snow in the area and the Gas Station is a real find!! I like to think back in time when I see that Station, of what life might have been like back in the day. I live in the out skirts of the City, but my heart has always been up country.

Ya it's quite the sight to see if you weren't expecting it. You're right they get loads of snow there. When you think of how many winters that station has probably seen it's pretty incredible too. Those pumps are somewhere around 90 years old. How crazy is that? You're lucky to have experienced both the city life and the country life. Many people have only half the experiences. There's a lot out there to see in BC that's for sure. You'll like the next video that I'll be uploading for Wednesday. It continues on down this road. Thanks for watching Frank!

@@TravelBackroads Your welcome and as we have said in the past, you could spend a life time in B.C. and not see everything.

Nice video. To bad you couldn't have done a tour of the town site. As for the old gas pumps, they started phasing them out in the early 1930's. I'll check out more of your video's soon...

Very few left, but years ago pumps like it were near Meachum, Oregon. That was back in "good old days" when gas was a quarter or less a gallon!! Just dated myself as very few remember cheap gas. Fish truly are smaller and fewer now, too. Game departments plant fish, but they do not get as big or fight as hard when caught. 😃🤗😍

Interesting drive, new to me. Have you ever driven to Seymour arm from Squilax, I have only gone as far as St. Ives.

Thanks for watching Dave. I have done that drive a couple of times over the years. I don't know why but it always seems to take longer than I think it should. Actually the last time I went that way (2 years ago) I think I turned around at St. Ives. That's a good one for me to do right to the end. Thanks for the suggestion. Actually the fall colours now would be pretty good at that elevation.
