@@tsuk2430 I've had multiple VR headsets. (Odyssey+, quest 2, Index) and the index controllers were by far the most durable. VR equipment is going to break over time. Most people have had their headset for 4-5 years now. Wear and tear is inevitable.
When the Index came out and I saw that you strap them to your hands and they do full hand tracking, but still giving you sticks and buttons, I was convinced it was the future and every other headset from then on would copy it. And then Valve and HTC forgot about VR and everybody just ignored it and now outside of the Quest, VR is 100% dead. Sad.
A boolean is a 1 or 0, basically a button its either pressed or its not, while a vector 1 can have any value, although it's probably only between -1 and 1 in this case, so basically, a slider where the value is set to the location of the slider.

Idk about the playstation setup but have you ever used an Index controller? Yes they may be pretty much the best around (as they have been for a long time) but their finger tracking is quite limited. It is basically a big thing of touch sensors that determine how much and where you are gripping the controller. Index controllers can only track your fingers curling in one direction. Any finger motion that is part of gripping is tracked, anything else not really. No sideway finger moving, no only the tips of your fingers moving. Index controllers are nice, better finger tracking on a controller would still be nice though.

This is where I think haptic gloves and such will be super popular. Imagine being able to use your hands but you have resistance when you touch a wall or can feel the grip of a gun while you hold it. Now you can punch an invisible wall AND still break fingers
Nimsony has a good method for movement with out controllers. It uses you relative to the play space as a joystick. When you stand at the center of your area you are stationary, If you step forward with one foot you start walking, if you step further you start running. Return to the center of your play space and you will stop moving again.

The boolean mode makes you move with constant speed if the action triggers movement, and the vector1 mode makes the speed at which you move depend on the intensity of the action. It's like buttons vs. joysticks: you can press a button, and it's either on or off. The joystick, on the other hand, can either be fully pointing in a direction, or only partway, and the further you move your joystick in a given direction, the faster you'll move.

Habie! a good solution to what your looking for would be Haptic gloves! alongside that there are many VR specific multi-directional treadmills for movement in game. the only downside is it costs your firstborn for all of the equipment, so... yea. not much for us right now but I can Imagine the sensation would be wild!

It's a super interesting experiment, especially cool seeing handtracking come this far. I had a play around with handtracking, and I think ultimately there are 2 things to take from this: 1) We need physical VR gloves. I don't think treadmills will ever be super consumer-level viable, so we need a glove with a small stick and 2 buttons on it for movement and some basic actions (menus). There are actually some of these on kickstarter, so it's happening! 2) Hand-based VR will pretty much only ever be good for social VR or anything where you're not actively holding something. HUGE for VRchat, but I think it's also gonna be a bit naff for shooters.

I was really hoping handtracking would be viable for VRchat, but if I rest my hands at my sides or stretch my avatar's arms go all wonky lol. it looks and feels wild to see your fingers 1:1 match your avatar in VR, some real cool futuristic sci-fi shit

I remember finding Halo mods with one of my close friends and shit got real. He was a nightmare with dual magnums and the fact you could dual weild heavy weapons like the rocket launcher and energy sword was amazing.
Back in 2014 I set up a Kinect with FAAST tracking to handle this. Walking in place would trigger movement, and the direction I moved would be the direction I was leaning. Far from perfect, but it did work for a long while. This was during the Oculus DK1&2 days I stopped after we got actual motion controllers(not counting the Razer Hydras)
Hand tracking could be improved with 3rd party gear. I got this thing I paired up to my big screen beyond to allow me to play Breachers in full hand tracking. Also i was one of the unfortunate people to get got by the turret lol
fun fact: if youd want both Controllers AND finger tracking... there is a way... a 1000$ way... but a way nonetheless... (the 1000$ im talking about is for a full Valve index VR kit) the Valve index controllers: they both track your fingers, and are really good controllers. :3
Imagine this, but with movement controls integrated into a physical rifle and side arm with functional, clean-break triggers. It would be game changing because you would no longer need magnets or some other controller mounting to use a gun stock. Want to throw a grenade? Just sling your rifle and grab the nade, throw it, and grab your rifle again and go. Same for reloads, stims, and other items in game.
I mean yeah it’s cool and novel. Obviously there’s nothing more immersive than using your own hands, but at the end of the day you are playing a video game where the actions you take are not possible in your real life. Controllers are just required to play

Far from perfect, but it did work for a long while. This was during the Oculus DK1&2 days I stopped after we got actual motion controllers(not counting the Razer Hydras)

Hand tracking could be improved with 3rd party gear. I got this thing I paired up to my big screen beyond to allow me to play Breachers in full hand tracking.
Also i was one of the unfortunate people to get got by the turret lol

there is a way... a 1000$ way... but a way nonetheless... (the 1000$ im talking about is for a full Valve index VR kit)

Hey habie, I don’t know if you read comments but I’ve been watching and loving your content for the last couple of months, keep it up!!!
Imagine this, but with movement controls integrated into a physical rifle and side arm with functional, clean-break triggers.
It would be game changing because you would no longer need magnets or some other controller mounting to use a gun stock. Want to throw a grenade? Just sling your rifle and grab the nade, throw it, and grab your rifle again and go. Same for reloads, stims, and other items in game.
I mean yeah it’s cool and novel. Obviously there’s nothing more immersive than using your own hands, but at the end of the day you are playing a video game where the actions you take are not possible in your real life. Controllers are just required to play
