It's interesting how Jake was much less timid about allowing Dr. Michael to touch his legs. It's almost like he was thinking "Yep, THIS is the leg-fixing guy. I can trust him with my sore legs."

Sometimes you must cause injury to facilitate healing. Broken bones hurt but that dog is going to feel better when they heal as a straighter leg.

The way Dr. Michael was analyzing Jake’s situation and deciding what’s the best possible solution was creative

Jake must have been so uncomfortable. Have your joints at such an unnatural angle and your muscles and tendons so strained must be horrible 😢 He was being so brave and tolerate considering how badly it must have hurt. I'm so glad he has a mom who loves him so much and was ready to do anything to help him. I'm glad he's doing better.

Why did Jake's owner wait so long to get help? The lady walks with a stick and poor Jake goes for long walks. I could imagine the pain. Jake is so brave.

She said that she could walk him a mile a day before that. Some humans don't/won't do that daily. She knew his legs were messed up when she adopted him (don't know how old he was), but if the vet at that time (ASPCA vets would have looked at him) said she didn't have to worry about it until it became a problem, there was no need for a specialist. So, 6 years after adoption and galumphing around on a gimpy leg, it became a problem so she saw the vet. What would the vet have said before it became a problem? Well, if it isn't bothering him, why are you here? My father was born with a club foot and as a 22 year old had to have surgery to fuse his ankle. Why did my grandfolks not do anything for 22 years? Because they didn't need to, the leg braces (doctor gave them to him) he wore as a kid worked fine and they couldn't do surgery anyway until he was an adult or it would have messed with his growth plates and done more harm than good. The common treatment now, the Ponsetti method, did not exist when my dad was a baby. He does not walk properly since his ankle is fused, but he can still walk a mile or so once a week (every day when I was a kid) and he is pushing 70 so now it is just age and decades of wear and tear on a gimpy foot that is the issue. The point is, that if Jake wasn't having issues before, it could have done more harm than good to fix what was not an urgent matter.

surgery is a big thing, it wasn't that bad before so it wasn't something that was thought to be immediately worrying about

Money issue? This kind of surgery is very expensive. If she wrote a letter to ask for help, I'd bet she asked to be part of the show, thus having a free visit and everything. Not everyone can afford these kind of surgeries...
