    This is how you do a inaccurate history show - you make it funny and clever. I hate when it’s historical and serious but filled with inaccuracies.

      I prefer Netflix style, where they pretend to be the history channel and portray one of Scandanavia's great young white male warriors and leaders Jarl Haakon (kind of their George Washington) as an older black female, and don't change his name or anything, and have the village inexplicably full of even east-asian people. 🤦🏾‍♀️

      What "state assembly with all the nobles"!?
      It's not Rzecz Pospolita, or something. There were no such assemblies since mid XVII.
      She wanted to be called "the Great" and be perceived as the spiritual heir of Peter the Great, but it wasn't happening.
      One of her short-lived "progressive" projects, a Commission for Legal Reform, suggested a title of "The Great and Wise Mother of Fatherland". It was perceived as such a lame attempt at ass-kissing that she felt compelled to reject it. Not that the commission had any power to grant anything beyond making suggestions.

      That and his desire to change Russia to something more similar to Prussia, and even alliaing with Prussia which was a major shake up in Russian foreignpolicy, made him unpopular.
      And on top of that many the many domestic reforms that seemed to were designed to make Russia a somewhat more liberal society, including proclaiming religious freedom, abolishing the secret police and outlawing the killing of serfs by their landowners. He also established the first state bank in Russia and encouraged mercantilism by increasing grain exports and placing embargos on materials that could be found in Russia. The somewhat liberal nature and the speed with which he introduced these reforms did not help his popularity as the still highly conservative Russian nobility, church, and to some extent the common people didn't really agree with the reforms especially not with the haste he implemented them. Because of that Catherine could find support from all of those groups to eventually overthrow him.

    Episode Summary (Spoilers Included)
    The Great - season 2, episode 1
    The coup has taken place and Catherine is basically the Queen bitch in charge now with Orlo who has glowed up in his clothes, gear and attitude and Velementov who is also looking quite good these days. Catherine, Orlo and Velementov have been looking for Leo but they can’t find him anywhere, Velementov is thinking he's probably dead.
    Peter and his court have basically taken up one wing of the palace and they're trapped there by Catherine's military. Svenska makes a point that they are trapped and they can't do much, Peter says they're doing OK and that there is a connection to the ground where they can escape to the forest but they send one of many Peter lookalikes and he runs on the field towards the forest and gets shot quickly.
    Peter manages to escape from his wing to Catherine via the doctor (he was hiding in some massive box on wheels). He shoots Catherine’s guards and is too quick for her too. He says he is getting impatient of waiting for her to change her mind but he still loves her and can’t wait for Paul to come. Catherine has been plotting herself and sends someone to throw molotov bombs at their wing where Archie, Marial, Goergina, Grigor, Svenska and more are…
    Everyone is in a panic and Velemetov enters with his men shooting others (what happened to avoiding "unnecessary bloodshed"?) and he ends up killing Svenska. Archie decides to stay and hides out in Peter’s room and Marial goes back to Catherine and tells her she saved her as opposed to betrayed her and so they become friends again. Marial tells Archie not to doubt it - this friendship with Catherine is the real deal.
    Peter, Grigor and Georgina manage to escape and they head off in carriages to some far away building across a little moat, none of them bring food with them, so they end up getting quite hungry.
    Elizabeth finds Catherine and tells her she will be an excellent ruler and then tells Orlo, who really wants to kill Peter, that Catherine won’t kill Peter and will instead make him abdicate. Catherine tells her there is a chance he will die.
    Jeanne Pierre goes back and tries to get food for Peter and his company, he’s also got a lot of chokov guards. Catherine spots this and follows them to discover where Peter and his company are. A shootout occurs between the two sides from across the moat and Velementov’s men mostly die. It's unfortunate.
    Grigor has to listen to Georgina and Peter bang again and so does everyone tbh and things are more complicated than ever cause Peter starts to reveal that Grigor approached him about this, which Grigor didn’t look happy about and Georgina is like “nah I will bang who I wanna bang.”
    Peter and his company send another Peter lookalike and they shoot him immiedatiely and Peter is like “OMG that could have acc been me, how can she shoot?” He also thinks she secretly loves him and maybe she does a little.
    Peter's getting hungry and almost eats a rat as Catherine's taunting him with really nice smelling food from across the moat. Through Georgia, Peter negotiatee just wants 20 mins a day with Paul and Cathetine for breakfast. He also ends up asking for a lot of banging but Catherine says “no”. Peter agrees to these terms and signs an abdication document as Grigor and Georgina eat lots of nice food and Peter joins in.
    Peter then reveals that he has Leo’s head, he asks Grigor to get it. This completely throws Catherine off her high and Orlo announces that Catherine is the new empress of Russia as she is still reeling from the news that Leo is dead whilst holding Leo’s head in her hands. Georgina and Grigor think Peter has lost but he says he has a secret plan and it is gonna be good for him...

Even with Catherine wishing to be a noble ruler, somehow I doubt that the court of Russia, or indeed anywhere, would allow such nobility to last

After years of war, he negotiated the surrender of the leaders of the Taiping Rebellion and in the deal he promised they would not be executed. Later that day their heads were delivered to him. Because funny cures a lot of things.

      They say outright and promote it as being inaccurate but comedic-focused, thats the point of the show they’re very self-aware which i love. Nothing worse than a pretentious historical show that gets it wrong, nothing better than a show that acknowledges their inaccuracy to focus on just good funny writing, like Death of Stalin. As a history student i rlly respect that sort of filmmaking, its entertainment after all and they dont pretend to be recounting real history

      I wouldn't call it 2021, just more British than German, Russian or Turkish aristocracy.
      Like the Ottoman Sultan's outfit makes him look more like a pirate or a fictionalized faux-realistic(you could tell they ripped this off from the way that Kublai Khan dressed in the netflix show 'Marco Polo') medieval Mongol/Turkic conqueror than a 19th century Turkish Ottoman Sultan. It's like doing a film on Danish Nobility in the early 1900s and then making them all dress up like movie Vikings with horns.

    yeah thats how i always thought girls and women act like: trying to be confident and in the charge but half of it is meant of the opposite it actually should mean. but i also tried to be similar like the guy before even knowing this scene but it seems modern women at the age of the woman in this particualr clip are not alike and it seems they really mean the things they say even its sometimes harsher then they maybe actually want to say/mean it, cause i never made a girl i felt attracted to hot in a similar way, wanting more of me. they either don't respond/react which makes the hole thing boring as hell, or they reject you in the rudest and harsh way possible. feeling annoyed and angry even i mean it nice, thoughtful and romantic... maybe i just never had the luck to meet a women like the actress in that clip - yet.

    The most interesting thing is what do the Russians think about such mockery and mockery of their real history? I don't know of a single Russian or Soviet film where the Russians would allow themselves such mockery of any historical figure in America and the West. Even their enemies, they show with dignity and realistic. If you want to do a comedy, invent a country. And so this is just one of the options for lying about Russia.

    • @alyonav4078
      @alyonav4078 2 роки тому +2

      I'm Russian. As you said, this is mockery. Maybe someone thinks it very funny. I think it's just stupid and also disrespectful. I wouldn't watch series in a similar style about any country/nation/period of history or ordinary people. I don't like it.

      To be fair do the Russians have comedy?

    • @VPoster58
      @VPoster58 2 роки тому +3

      @@cloverite There are comedies, and many .... But the difficulty is that in Russian comedies the main thing is not the antics of the actors, but the content of the dialogues. At the same time, the difficulty lies in the fact that many dialogues are built on the verge of perception, using analogies known only to Russians. For a foreigner who does not know Russian, this is very difficult. Even with subtitles.
      An example is a 1965 film with English subtitles. By the way, the actor who plays a hooligan at a construction site fought in World War II and had 18 military orders.

      @@cloverite Sure. Why not? We have a lot of comedy films, shows, etc. But I'm not a fan of comedies in general (with a few exceptions. I like a few of old soviet ones and hollywood). It's just not my genre, regardless of the country of origin or the year of filming, or style. So I can't be completely objective.
