I'm a 66 y/o grandma. When I was 3 my dad brought me with him to pick some asparagus he had seen growing in a little field near our home. As he was going along picking here and there, he'd turn over flat stones and things. I didn't know why until there was a garter snake. It startled me so much and I jumped back! He told told me when I was older that I said,"Where the hell did that come from!" Usually people can't remember much from when they were that little, but remember that! Vividly!
Best herping video I have ever seen, hands down. I particularly like how you never do bullshit set-up "flips"...or if you do they are done well enough that I cannot tell they are fake.
@@NKFherping no FX here, just the real deal...................herping like it was meant to be............50 in one day OMG!! You must have felt like you died and went to heaven..........lol
KA EL In my country(Romania) we have only 3 venomous snakes, common viper, horned viper and mountain steppe viper but not their venomous bite is the problem, the problem in my country is the Corona Virus which killed 11 people so far😖
I grew up in north Louisiana (Ruston) and I’ve spent my life in the woods and at no point would I be searching for snakes with sandals on or picking up tin with my bare hands. So much respect for you guys. Love the videos
Quarantine has me discovering amazing channels i wish i found sooner! Keep up the good content, i really enjoy watching this and it also helps me escape the world we are in right now and all the terrible things we are experiencing. 🙁
Herper's Paradise. I've visited Florida before where I caught rough green snakes, a corn snake, and a black racer. I've done tons of herping in California, where I've caught gopher snakes, ringneck snakes, sharptail snakes, California kingsnakes, a coast mountain kingsnake, western yellow-bellied racers, California striped racers (perhaps my favorite), and at least a couple species of garter snakes, and have seen rattlesnakes. But it took days to find the snakes in Florida, and a period of years at multiple sites to encounter all those species in California (I've always wanted to catch a coachwhip and a rubber boa as well, but still haven't found them). I've never had anything like what you guys are finding in Louisiana, though, all in one day! Most of my herping was back when I was growing up in the seventies, eighties, and nineties, but these videos remind me how much I love it, and I'll have to do more of it at some point in my life. Of course, having all that excellent ground cover really makes a difference, because you have to be lucky to find snakes just basking or wandering about out on the surface. If I ever had a big patch of undeveloped land I would scatter wooden boards in all the best-looking spots and check them periodically for snakes. You guys don't seem to pay much attention to the lizards, though. They're pretty cool too, but often harder to catch than the snakes.
In Tennessee, and I'm sure other places, so many mistake banded water snakes for cottonmouths, as well as think corn snakes are copperheads. I know one thing, water snakes can be ill-tempered and bite the hell out of you. Still, I loved flipping rocks around water, looking for them. Another great video !
These snakes sure like the metal siding. Keep them out of the rain and probably keeps them warm. We did not know catching turtles and snakes in the creek when I was young had a name. Looking back I am amazed we never got sick or got the clap playing in that water weeds and mud.
Once me and my friend caught a 7 foot Texas rat snake. It was so long and big that it took both of us to lift it. And by the way I love your videos so much! Thank you!
T Allen , I caught a black rat snake a little over 6 ft it was on a warm morning beginning of spring. A few days later I found another one alot smaller. I tried to catch it and before I knew it my finger was in its mouth lol. That was the end of my snake catching days.
I wanna know how most of these snakes are so calm when I rarely find any kind of snake were I live they freak out piss and shit bit me like 7 times straight up try and eat my hand.
Just started watching your channel and I think it's awesome. You guys make me nervous flipping tin with no gloves on but I can't stop watching. if you consider coming to New Jersey let me know. I've never went flipping or herping before but I would love to give it a shot.
I’ve been watching your channel for about a year now, and I just wanted to say I’ve learned so much from all of your approaches! I’ve only ever found 5 snakes in my entire life so far, and hopefully I’ll find many more. When I’m having a bad herping day, I just switch on to your channel, and it’s awesome. Keep up the amazing work! Could you make a vid on how to find more snakes? I think I’m having trouble because I don’t have much time to herp (Maybe a hr or 2 a week), so i can’t find much.
trippy E Robson Ikr man it sucks. Found my 6th snake 2 days ago. Imma try extra hard this year, so hopefully I’ll be lucky. Good luck to you too! Use google maps for locations
That leap for the racer was great! Not for the difficulty of the capture, but rather the perfect form. You were ready to straight up dive if need be. Any young aspiring herpers out there need to watch that again, maybe even in slow motion and learn something lol
I’m just surprised y’all aren’t wearing copper wire gloves, when I go looking for snakes I always have a pair on me so I can pick up snakes and the wire prevents the fangs from getting to my flesh
they are not “mimicking a rattlesnake” they are simply shaking their tail as a warning, a lot of snakes do it but rattlesnakes just have a rattle to shake.
Thanks for showing names and harmful or not. Just bought a house on a river in South Louisiana so I'm trying to learn my snakes. Hard to tell the difference between rat snake and cottonmouth just based on coloring, any tips?
I’ve always thought any snakebite was bad from a bacterial perspective. Do you guys not get infections from this? I’ve caught a few kings but managed to never get bitten
I love your channel, my dad grew up in Ohio and would tell me stories about going out in the woods and just picking up snakes. There wasn't a name for it, they didn't call it herping then. Even though I live in the suburbs, it's a little exciting to flip over a stone. I know if you find a bunch of ants you won't find much else...
I don’t know how I got here but here I am and loving the videos. Do these guys put all this tin out there? Or just so happens to be there? Cuz I thought I heard the guy say he brought his lawn mower out there instead of throwing it away.
You guys need to come to Australia for some real freaky fun... Taipans, King Browns, Browns, Tiger snakes, Death adder, Copperhead, Red-bellied Black, Small Eye Snake... just to name a few... "All highly Venomous"..!!! Fun for days... 🤣🤣🤣
To start with, your videos are freakin awesome dude 👍🏼 You obviously are very learned in herpetology and you really have the heart for it. Are you in school ? Do you plan on getting a degree ? Dudes like you and your herping friends give me hope for the future
I notice most of the snakes seemed to be between the layers of tin in the stacks, is that a temperature thing? And is that why you leave them in stacks rather than separating them for more coverage?
Sure is! They prefer the layers, if it gets too warm they simply go down a few layers as opposed to going under ground like they would if it was only a single sheet.
When I was young I found a green snake in our house in Pennsylvania. I told our game commission after I moved him and he said he never saw one in Pennsylvania as high up north as we are. (Mercer County near Pittsburgh). Wondering if you’ve ever found a snake thought to never be in the area
This is the second video of yours that I watched and you guys are awesome! I noticed that you don’t hold the snake’s head to prevent it from biting you. Do you not hold them like that because it would cause the snake more stress? I caught a snake once and I held its head so it couldn’t bite me. It released its musk on my hands and I smelled weird for the rest of the day😂
Looks like you herp in those areas quite often. Suggestion: If you turn the metal sheets that overlay each other at angles so that the ribs do not align - it will create a greater number of deeper voids that critters can hide in. Your subsequent visits should have higher yields due to the increases in the number of hiding places beneath each pile of offset sheets..
Americans and their tin lol I just moved to the USA and went herping in the woods and was so excited when I found old tin from what I was told was a barn roof. I found a bunch of kingsnakes, garters and dekays brown snakes.

The Speckled King Snakes at 13:38 are wiggling their tails. Are they trying to mimic rattle snakes as a form of defence?
they are not “mimicking a rattlesnake” they are simply shaking their tail as a warning, a lot of snakes do it but rattlesnakes just have a rattle to shake.

That would be cool if you found the Louisiana pine snake the rarest snake in the usa
I think it would be cooler if they found a wild palmetto corn snake mixed in with the others
Is it still too early to do any herping in WV?
The “first speckled king snake of the day”... you never specified what was wrong with it. Can you (or anyone) expound on it’s condition?
Hard to say, many things can cause skin lesions in snakes from snake fungal disease to just hibernating in a wet area.
NKFherping ... thanks Noah! For the reply and the awesome content!
What do you do with 50 snakes do you just collect the pictures? And video....is helping different than the snake thing ?
Try using plywood. That's how we catch milkshakes an corals down here in Florida. The tin is just too hot an dry
