A look at the beautiful Luxman PD-151 Turntable. Obviouslt, the audio is not the Radiohead record playing, but still. Hope to compensate for all the missing beauty videos of this wonderful turntable.

I actually bought a pd 121s a few months ago and managed to find a jelco ts-350s arm locally for a decent price. I didn't know that the newer luxman decks also came with jelco arms. This arm looks like the exact same arm as the ts-350s even except it doesn't have the black base. Looks very good with the aluminium finish so I totally get why this deck came with this jelco arm (disregarding the performance ofcourse.

Lovely table but with one major flaw.... not long after Luxman produced this TT, Jelco (who make the arm for the table) ceased business and production. When the time comes it cannot be replaced as its entirely fixed to the plinth top. The newer MkII version uses an SAEC arm. The PD171A also allows arm swapping. This put me off the PD151 (whose sound i loved when i heard one) and led me down the Thorens TD1600 route which worked a treat because i notice a huge difference running fully balanced XLR

Was surprised when they announced the Mk II then found out about Jelco. What a pity! I'm happy with it mainly because it looks quite stylish and to me it's more appealing than Thorens (also considered). Just have to take good care for it so it'll never need an arm swap :)

@@technostalgism It should last plenty of time!! Hopefully records are still selling come the day lol. I nearly put off the Thorens from a couple of old Thorens users who said its "made in China" but then i got to use one and its the best built deck ive come across... WAY better than a new Technics or equivalent Project. Ive just always preffered the natural rhythmic and funky sound of suspended decks and blame my dads old Linn for that but im also a total XLR convert because the noise floor just drops by a good few DB and everything sounds better this way at least through this deck. I could have very happily lived with a Luxman deck though. Ultimately i tried to get a PD171a on home demo but the UK distributor kept letting me down as they werent selling many

Might I ask how do you know when you have attained the exact platter speed using the front pot screws without a strobe light?

Hi, you could use an app on your phone such as RPM - Turntable Speed Accuracy (or any other that measures Turntable RPMs). Cheers!
