I fully rebuilt a 1990 DR650S and have mod-ed it a lot like much of what you have done. I live at 10,500 ft elevation. I went with the TM-40 pumper carb. Huge Difference on acceleration. Also, the tm-40 allows for the double throttle cable, helps with instant throttle snap back. Thanks for sharing "the war pig" as an example of what can be done with the dr.

And the riding I want to do most people are not even doing 40 mph . I dont know nothing of the metric system . I have a a stock 1990 DR350s the suspension was all redone stock of course and the motor has only 2700 on it but the top end was bad low compression. So I just bought a replacement kit piston head and rings and clips and so forth . I believe they over filled the motor with oil , they didnt know how to check it correctly. They thought it was just low so they kept adding oil to it. My friend said they got it started after kicking it over for 40 minutes they said it ran ok brand new . Can I just do my springs as well on its little brother ? Being its already a brand new suspension
@SKIDSnSTUFF The DR is best in its class to date . Only the DRZ and the 400Xr . It has more power than the 300 that's is offered today . Without making the motors to probmatic.....
Love your vids. Love the War pig. Nice and simple!! My muffler cost 16 bucks its a redback meant for a mini sounds as good as my mates Yoshi that cost 800. I run my pig on Avgas mostly, I get the pop I love the pop. . DR's are life.
K S The muffler i used is just one destined for a Morris minor it’s round about 8 inches long I run it backwards so it’s not annoyingly loud but it’ll run either way. I removed the stock muffler and pipe just unbolted it behind the frame. Welded a bit of tube to the muffler put a bend in it bolted to the stock pipe with a clamp. That’s it used the standard mounts so I can return it to stock anytime.
K S legitimate took me about an hr. My mates bike runs a yoshi. I think the the red back sounds actually better. No air box upgrades or carby upgrades on my bike. I do run avgas a lot of the time I have unlimited access to that. The bike is a 2015 I’ve owned it since new always ran avgas runs an almost white pipe. This is my 3rd DR in 25 years most reliable motorcycle I’ve ever owned.
Still a work I progress sorry H3rrr0 but they ARE coming, just gotta find the time, what with having a couple jobs and making videos for here 😀 I'm pretty excited about them though cos they could be a good thing for the DR community
If you don't do something about that big daggy weld in the stock header you're only getting part of the benefit of a non stock exhaust. Standard GSXR 600/750/ Busa cans are the same weight as the aftermarket stuff, a fraction of the price 2nd hand and shitloads quieter.

Nice work Mate ! 👍 So far the only modification I've did to the DR650 went with a 14 tooth front drive sprocket and seemed to get the gearing where I liked it . Other than that I just ride the bike ! 😁
Awesome vid! You mentioned that you like to replace your rear wheel bearing every 10,000 KM. But then you said that you'll probably change it twice in the winter, so it that just a lot of riding (20K) over 3 months of winter?
I'm sorta just approximating at that point, which ever comes first sorta thing. Main point I'm trying to get across when saying that is that I'd rather be changing bearings more often rather than having a hub get chewed out
Thanks! Some basic ideas. Ive got 51,000 miles on my 03 DR, nothing broke yet....I dont quite ride it like you do obviously, but its been in dirt and rocks alot............I tried the race tech re-valved shock thing, we re-valved it 3 times, I rode it and rode it....sorta worked then the shaft wore the chrome off, then the body was wrecked internally....................THEN I put an American made Cogent shock on and damn. Best thing I ever did to the bike by far.........So Nice. Right outta the box no adjustment needed and perfect. 35,000 miles I got banged around by the re-valved shock........Cogent is like an American version of an Ohlins, plated steel body, Ohlins spring, totally re-buildable easily.................Worth the money.
For sure a good rear shock is a game changer. I need to fix the revalve on this one it's kinda terrible but I'm sure it can be a lot better with a shim shuffle, the dude who valved it went too tight up top. Thanks for the suggestion.
@@SKIDSnSTUFF Me and the race tech guy tried the shim shuffle 3 times, it turned out the stock shock is so simple and cheap? That trying to add rebound damping also added compression damping...which was already too stiff....its un-doable.....My bike would do a wallow when pushed hard and it was not good.........then the chrome came off the small shaft, the body has no hard anodizing and it went bad.....it over heated easily....at base level its junk..........Ive never had a shock be such a game changer as the Cogent. Not cheap, but wow does it ever work.
@@SKIDSnSTUFF Hi buddy, Simone from Italy, I just bought a DR 650 from 2000 (it hasn't been imported into Italy since then). I love your videos and I think I'll take inspiration to make some changes. Do you have any advice on revalvng the shock yourself? Any shim list? Have you ever tried an original shock with thicker oil (w10)? thanks
For me it was yes. Massively. But that 520 was so bad it may have been a defective chain somehow. Basically had to nurse it home on a 5 day trip cos the chain disintegrating so quickly
Great vid and I’m taking a lot of your advice with my own DR. Question - do you use a front sprocket damper ring? Mine has recently deteriorated and broken off but from what I e read, not many people run them as they don’t come with aftermarket sprockets
Joining the warpig gang but I’d prefer an xr650L I hear the suspensions better (they all could be stiffer) but I’d be the last upgrade! Hondas reliably is overrated in this 650 class for sure. This 06 klx 650 with 9k and old man kit is tempting for $3000usd

Nice work Mate ! 👍 So far the only modification I've did to the DR650 went with a 14 tooth front drive sprocket and seemed to get the gearing where I liked it . Other than that I just ride the bike ! 😁
That'll do pig that'll do
Awesome vid! You mentioned that you like to replace your rear wheel bearing every 10,000 KM. But then you said that you'll probably change it twice in the winter, so it that just a lot of riding (20K) over 3 months of winter?
I'm sorta just approximating at that point, which ever comes first sorta thing. Main point I'm trying to get across when saying that is that I'd rather be changing bearings more often rather than having a hub get chewed out
Cheers old mate 👍 great vid good info.
🤔🏍💨💨💨💨
Thanks Darren!
If I switch from my 42 t rear sprocket to 44 do I have to change the chain ?
Nope it slams the rear axle, tomorrow's video mentions this actually
Has yout tank hit your oil cooler? Just had a mount failure on my oil cooler from a drop, or at least I've finally noticed

Have you ever tried an original shock with thicker oil (w10)? thanks
Cool video 📹 😎
Thanks I also have been enjoying your content
Great video on the DR650. 525 chain is stronger more dependable than a 520? I swapped my gearing ratio to off road and now on a 520.
For me it was yes. Massively. But that 520 was so bad it may have been a defective chain somehow. Basically had to nurse it home on a 5 day trip cos the chain disintegrating so quickly
Thats cool man
Although I think it's more your rider skill than your specific mods that make your Dr go so good haha 😎
I feel like I just stand there and implement these tips

Great vid and I’m taking a lot of your advice with my own DR. Question - do you use a front sprocket damper ring? Mine has recently deteriorated and broken off but from what I e read, not many people run them as they don’t come with aftermarket sprockets
Yeh mine is on there still
nice vid! cheers
Thanks for dropping by
Joining the warpig gang but I’d prefer an xr650L I hear the suspensions better (they all could be stiffer) but I’d be the last upgrade! Hondas reliably is overrated in this 650 class for sure. This 06 klx 650 with 9k and old man kit is tempting for $3000usd
Why not have both :) it's super easy to get the suspension decent on the DR
@@SKIDSnSTUFF I’ll look into it I know they’re so similar like I said I’m not picky I can’t be new they’re all 7k new and used markets weak in New England I see a lot fully (over) modified for 10k but I don’t want a stretched mall crawler haha too stiffen them up you used oil or springs also I’ve had a Yamaha ttr225 in the past so I’m capable of managing a heavy bike on cushy suspension!
@@buffering7612 springs and valving
Awesome video got my 21 in October of that year. Only mod is a cheap top rack😊. At 75kg, youve the got the weight mod i need. Gotta swap the fat arse up top for 15kg lighter model 😂
Surprised to hear 45 pilot chews so much juice, I just put one in and I got a big ride coming up… DOH!
Oh yeh I'm off the 45 hey, just too thirsty. I'm doing a episode soon changing stock carb bit by bit to figure out the easiest change with biggest pay off. I have an idea a more tapered needle is all that's needed
Sweet… I’ll keep an eye out👍
Hello , do you have the ink for the hand guard ur using ? Ty

Ciao a tutti. Seguo con grande interesse. Chiedo un vostro aiuto. Serbatoio da 25 o 20 litri ? Ho paura il 25 litri renda la moto impacciata. Io vivo in Italia. Great
la bici va esattamente allo stesso modo con entrambi i serbatoi di capacità. Se HAI BISOGNO del carburante allora la decisione è fatta per te. Ora uso un serbatoio da 35 litri.
