making a game by drawing each individual texture in pencil is the equivalent of building a gothic cathedral in modern day. confusing but just... awesome.
Can't wait for the kids to all get on board with this INDIE horror game so we can see some SWEET Hayman Funko Pops and funny Goat Head shirts!! And maybe even some TOKENS of the NON FUNGIBLE variety!!
Yeah I'd never heard of this thing at all - and honestly I am 200% in favor of Nerrel shining a light on cool indie titles in his trademark way - does need a new title though like a "Too Early, Now Give a Shit"~ (And on that note, pretty sure this vid's gonna get lower engagement than his usual fare, so like and sub and comment dammit!
The great thing about obscure games like this is that you can review them anytime because most people (like me) don't even know they exist. Looks highly interesting but not the type of game I'd play myself but it looks like the type of thing that would be fun to watch someone play on a stream. Eventually I'm going to do a Phantasy Star Portable 2 Infinity review (once I play it), I waited my whole youth waiting for a fan-translation, even if it's been out for a while I don't think much people have heard of it. Keep up the videos!
I love it when artistic games don't just limit themselves with just walking simulators. You can have a fantastic artstyle, but nobody would give a damn if it's a crappy game. This interests me. Thanks Nerrel.
I love games so steeped in real-life culture. I expected Mundaun to just be a walking sim with a great art style but I was pleasantly surprised when I played it.
Ooh, I just played Mundaun after watching Ragnarox's video on it. I pretty much agree with all your points: excellent atmosphere and artstyle, and a hefty dose of Euro-jank. But yeah, definitely unique if nothing else. It didn't quite stick the landing for me though, I thought the ending was kind of unsatisfying.
May have to check this out...I miss Switzerland sometimes, even though I lived on the opposite end of the country, that landscape is familiar and nostalgic...though when I was there nothing tried to kill me to my knowledge.
I fucking love this game and it’s tragic it didn’t get more attention. It’s one of the few modern horror games I felt captured the uncanny atmospheric energy of earlier horror titles like silent hill - while very much doing its own thing in its own context.
this was definitely an impressive experience when compared to its indie equivalents. most of which are less than are hour long. that rely on cheap jump scares and chase sequences.... developer 616 makes a lot of short games. i'll give those as an example.
I played this game recently, and it was awesome! The atmosphere was super thick. I also love playing games where the main draw is something other than the combat, because it forces the devs to get creative. I strongly recommend anyone who enjoyed this to also try Northern Journey, which is a nordic psuedo-metroidvania FPS set in the middle ages. Its got amazing music, fantastic atmosphere, a unique roster of pre-gunpowder missile weapons, and much like this game is constantly evolving. By the end you feel like you've gone on a true journey, from the depths of the Earth's own veins to the highest peaks of distant glaciers. It's unironically one of my favorite games from 2021.
I played this game back when it came out and thoroughly enjoyed it. I personally loved how dated some of the mechanics felt, it gives it a kinda imperfect polish that I really dig in certain games (this being one of those games). And tasks like having to build up a fire to make your coffee helped for immersion. I also found the environmental horror very effective. They do an excellent job at making the world itself alive with there always being a sense of unease. It really feels like whatever lies under the mountain is watching you, cause it literally does at points.
This was one of my favorite games of last year. I think it gave me the exact experience that I wanted it to. Never got frustrating for me, and some of the the other imagery in this will stick with me for a long time.
Yoo I played this last summer and still think back to it a lot. The atmosphere in this game is amazing, really unique. Huge recommend to any horror fans.
I like that more people get exposed to Rumantsch. With it being spoken by less than 25'000 people, it's not surprising it sounds so exotic. Really interesting language with a funky history
Nerrel you're one of those channels that makes such entertaining and quality content that I want to watch everything you put out regardless of what it's about. How do you only have 200k subs?
the intro to "Too Late, Who Gives a Shit?" is genuinely a stroke of probably accidental comedic genius. every joke in the intro never ages out, infact just makes them funnier and funnier with time. godspeel nerrel.
This is not fair, I have the bell on, I watch your videos RELIGIOUSLY, and yet I didn't get notified for this one. Why UA-cam? Pls let me support my favorite creator on this site.
I think I feel like this with Limbo Clones. "Another indie 2D-2.5D that has a dark color scheme. Somber music. Some environmental storytelling that doesn't go anywhere. And it could all be "we are really dead and this is a coma dream" that teenagers and very secular people find profound."
I've never been too great at writing but I'd love to know Nerrel's process. His videos are so well thought out and he's great at explaining his reason for liking or disliking certain aspects of a game.

Comparing an aspect of it to playing the Kid A exhibit, but with actual gameplay, has piqued my interest. Hell, Nerrel could recommend Garfield Kart and I would play it.
Nerrel I'd really like to know what you think of the fromsoft games. Like mainly what you think of darksouls 1 and blood borne because they're so heavily influenced by metroidvania and Zelda. Also Elden ring ofc. Just got it the other day and it's all I wanna play.
The indie market is flooded with hidden gems- arguably more so now than the PS2 ever was. It's not '2Late2Furious' for a game that likely never got its starlight in the first place. Hopefully that time is now, because this does look really fucking nice, and it's always a shame to have a saturated market with so many diamonds buried in the rough, likely never seen.
I played this game for four hours and couldn't beat a basic puzzle on Day 1. The game was bugged and wouldn't let me access a lever I needed to pull to progress. Eventually I did beat the first day, but I was so pissed off by the 6 hours it took me to get there, I had exhausted all of my patience with the game.
