@@keystonecountryboy I know what you mean. Muddbucket UDX483 is a Friend of mine, and he has a You Tube Channel where he has a Frankenstein antenna, made out of different years and makes etc, and talks all over the world on SSB. If you check him out , please let him know I said hello.
Very nice. Do you know how far the 1st lower section goes down into the insulation and very bottom section of ally tube? There must be some capacitive effects going on in that lower section from the overlap. I'm going to make one from a 5/8 Sirio. I just made the ring from one piece of copper pipe Initially I'll strap it to the elements but might try to solder / braise it later. The ring has around a 1ft diameter. I just resiled I made it the wrong way around so I'll just clamp and later solder the ring tuning wire. I'm going to use some fairly heavy gauge solid core. The insulator will be of teflon as is for the Maco v5000 (Watts version).
The astro plane is a decent antenna just not built rel good ..but the v 5/8 is 5/8 wave but I don't care for the matching network... horizontal ring... I like.verticle linear matching ..like the spt500 ..no coil no loading coil just vertical matching but the damn v 5/8 will work
The spt500 I have had...the one I bought was new in 2014...the tubing was a lil weak, the maco definitely has thicker walled tubing. And from what I've heard the new versions of the spt500 w the flat wire instead of the older matching network is worse. I'll stick w maco had a v5000 I let go years ago, I have an astroplane it dose not do as good down in this hole I live in as the maco dose.
Good to see someone creating things. I found your channel, and hit the thumbs up, and am following. 21 South Carolina Old Radio Night
Thanks, never really saw many people rebuilding old antennas on UA-cam too much, in this day and age it's a throw away world
