@@Sweaty23Mike lol yea against someone who doesn’t have IQ that step back ain’t working on me with ankle brace, clamps, menace, chase down, and intimidator on silver and me actually defending off IQ that’s just gives you good defense you still gotta know when to get in yo stance and when to be moving on defense like if I hit you with this stance ima push you in the corner by clamping your shooting hand I know you gotta beat me and get to that shooting pocket so ima force you into corners where you can’t step back and if you do step back I just cancel that stance and close out trust I been playing with it and that chasedown, intimidator, and ankle brace most comp guards end up mistiming they shot even if it’s registering as wide open or 0% open which means the defense is closing out but deadeye is affecting the impact that you feel all the shot contest percentage means how strong the defensive pressure was on the shot
As long as I can force a mistimed shot I know you gotta get bailed out by the HOF badges if you make I can live with that most the time most shooters just pass out the step back cause my close out so fast and strong in this stance when getting in good position on defense, good positioning is always guarding the shooting hand which forces most guards to attack or try to bait you with a blow by then step back for shot, if the paint guarded I know you can’t attack so you tryna bait ima let you think the bait working and close right out when you try stepping back
The cone drill in the combine is the perfect place to see this in motion. On L2 for shuffle and back pedal. Come off R2 to change direction then back on R2 for the boost. Staying on R2 through the corner can make you stumble. Only way I got the best score on it. And proves how this works as well
I feel like the tricky part is to hold the right stick up straight the entire time, cuz even when it shifted a bit to the left or right, ur players lateral movement starts to become really slow and stiff
They had this in previous 2ks by just holding L2 and following the dribbles correctly. Now you have to hold the right stick up as well to get a defensive animation. I'll give this a try cause I hate off balling. I rather earn my defensive stops.
You can just hold L trigger and use L joystick as your legs and r joystick as your arms. The r joystick is what you are facing. Having it diagonally back let's you shade a side on a drive. Holding it to a side is cutting off that side. Holding l2 keeps you in a stance, but tapping r2 before their move makes the players feet active to cut off a drive.
As crazy as this sounds no matter how long/much you play 2k there’s always room for improvement.. with that being said I continue to get killed in the paint that’s why I’m here 🥹🤦🏾♂️
The game isn’t bad, the blowbys aren’t nearly as bad as last year. It’s the contested jump shots that constantly seem to go in over good defense that is frustrating. The computer continues to reach in and take dumb fouls, help and leave guys open in the corners it’s driving me crazy. Thanks for the tutorial this is much needed!
blowbys? they are basically impossible in 2k22 at least on old gen. even if you have the correct angle and have beaten your defender, he usually recovers by sticky bump animations.

interesting sam... in previous 2ks (especially 20), comp defenders i knew rarely held L2, usually only use LS to stay in front because of better speed, and only hold L2 when close to defender. but what you're saying is to hold L2 the WHOLE time (plus RS up), correct? and only tap (not hold) R2 if there's seperation, correct? in your opinion, is hold L2 the whole time + RS up enough speed to keep up with defender, especially with the slower speed when getting close? or is it better to use LS, and only hold L2+ RS up when you get close? im just trying to figure out best way to stay in front considering the slower speed if i hold L2. thanks again sam!
I also agree it's a great question. I just started 2k22 and with everyone doing a left right behind a pick and roll, my lateral quickness is never fast enough to catch up to the pgs. I've been finding that no L2 is actually better only for those playshots
