Glad I got the Prime Trilogy on my Wii U before the shop closes. Imagine that, Nintendo doing a remastered collection for a decent price. It was 20 bucks
The trilogy wasn't a remaster. It was a straight port with motion controls
I would really love to try out more emulators on Deck, but I have so much to play already that I feel little need to emulate anything. The Steam Deck has already been an absolute dream for playing my Steam library.
You don't wanna play any past games at all?
@@GoofyPoptart Most past games I want to play I can already play on other handheld devices. I have little reason to emulate.
⭐️ Update ⭐️
The discord sound was me getting messages, sorry about that
Make sure you show hidden files and folders in the dolphin file manager to access the .local folder for Steam.
Thanks to Steam Deck, many open source programs like Emulators are improving at accelerated pace. Not only does Linux is enjoying the new pace, so are many others. I've learned of Nvidia bad news just couple weeks back and it was the nudge that I needed to try Linux this time around for my next build with AMD now that I got taste of it with Steam Deck.
Nvidia bad news?
I also switched to Linux thanks to the Deck on my pc. Im enjoying Linux
Thank you very much Alex, a great guide. I got my Deck on Saturday and was playing StarCraft 2 by that night on it. I want to try some PSP and GameCube emulation too so will be using your guide.
This guy looks just like Ben Affleck.
Why is it that when Alex uploads a tutorial on emulation, it’s actually fun to follow? Maybe it’s his dreamy voice. Other UA-camrs sound like frogs
Audio is always my top priority
@@OhNoItsAlexx please do more videos of you playing games on deck and comparimg them to their pc version (and more PC port reviews!)
An good old game I've revisit thanks to Dolphin Emulator is, Timesplitters Future Perfect. That was one of my favourite childhood games
Me too! It was the first game I emulated on my deck a couple months back. So iconic
Dude I forgot about Timesplitters!
I wish the steam deck was available in Australia, so I can buy one without paying exorbitantly. Great video as always Alex. Thanks for the emulation content.
You should've bumped up the resolution under Display->Enhancements in Dolphin. You can actually play Metroid Prime at 1440p 60fps on the Deck if you're playing docked. Otherwise it's better to put it at 720p, which is still roughly double the GameCube and Wii's native resolution.
Thank you!!! I couldn’t figure out how to configure my steam deck controls. thank you for explaining these small details on setup!! I’m new to steam and control configs. This helped me out thanks
It’s crazy to see Adam Sandler making steam deck videos
Pretty nice guide. One crucial thing you missed out on was a Steam Deck Plugin called "Power Tools".
Now that plugin isn't required for Gamecube games but it will be required for certain Wii Games like Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2 as those games have unplayable performance without it.
The reason "Power Tools" is required is because Dolphin has pretty terrible multicore support and (at least on the Steam Deck) having more CPU threads active actually decreases performance.
So you basically what to set the number of threads used by Dolphin to 3 as that offers the best performance.
(Also using power tools with older emulators is recommended in general as the less CPU threads u use the better battery life)
i thought the threads need to be at 4.

Alex may want to do the Game Boy Advance and the SNES Emulator for the Steam Rom Manager thing, since the Metroid games are quite famous on those systems, Especially Metroid Zero Mission & Fusion for Game Boy Advance as well as Super Metroid for SNES. Like to organise those games soon to put it onto Steam, Even got Sonic Advance 1, 2 and 3 on there for the Game Boy Advance.
With my steam deck coming Friday I’ve been watching all your emulation videos.
Sick. Ill be coming back to this video next week. My deck arrives Wednesday.
Can you use this in dock mode with a gamcube Bluetooth controller?
I'm thinking of buying a steam deck
I just received my steam deck yesterday can’t wait to try this this weekend FUCKING excited
Does nothing when I set it up, just refuses to load the game.
The only game I had issue with was Twlight princess. For some reason after kakariko village my frames drop to 15 to 10 when I get back into Hyrule
You left stuff out but you still helped a lot so thank you.
im really hopeful that the steam deck makes x86 handhelds more a thing.
great video's Alex. you've been a great help for my ps2 emu. still having problems with Xemu though... can you make a video for that one as well? would be greatly appreciatied
Perfect, just what I needed, im literally getting mine today 😁 and I only reserved it 2 weeks ago
Thanks for sharing how to set up the emulator , it's really helpful
Still debating get steam deck so far I’m half way there still waiting what new year have offer before I decide I miss old classic games
Great video I'm questioning your picks for games though 🤣
Just found your channel, super helpful thank you!
Finally, portable Brawl is within my grasp.
Where do you download your ROMs? I’m super new to this
Alex my man
These vids are sorta not user friendly
But I am playing Super Mario Strikers tho
Also you missed the part on how to implement the motion controls of the Wii onto the Deck controller scheme
You had me at F-Zero GX my guy!
So I bought a SD card off Ali express with batocera, emulators, and roms pre-installed. The only issue I'm having with GameCube is the control scheme for the analog triggers. Do I need to go into desktop mode to rectify this because I've mapped the controls repeatedly and I still get stuck on a part of paper mario where I'm required to use the right trigger because it doesn't recognize the command.
So I was thinking going the emu deck route for mine, have you used both and if so which one is better?
Emudeck just uses this version. I do individual emulators incase people want them . Also flatpaks aren’t as good as the api’s from the website
Weird, won't let me map my buttons. I click it then press the button but it doesn't do anything.
Thank you Emulation for not making have to wait forever for Nintendo to port games
Been using the Dolphin emulator in Emulation Station which updates frequently. Rogue Squadron II doesn't work though.
When i played gamecube games on steam deck, i have the problem that i cant end the game. The only Thing that works was to turn of the steam deck. Give IT Button combination to go outside a gamecube game? The steam Button didnt work. I used the game splinter cell pandora tomorrow.
Whats the modifier under (shift) to press im confused about that mapping anyone know?
Have you tried out Emudeck? It pretty much does everything for you.
It uses the flatpak versions which are inferior
@@OhNoItsAlexx Really? I didnt know that. Guess ill try your method and see if theres a difference.
@@leesanction2068 No, It isn't. Flatpak is what Emudeck installs.
Great video, but removable drive is not showing when I choose rom path?
Where do i download the roms
How did you map the buttons so easily? I tried clicking each box and pressing buttons on the steam deck to map them but it didn't work. I also tried manually mapping the buttons by right clicking each thing in dolphin and choosing the same things that popped up for you (e.g., Button 0, Button 1, Axis 0- etc.) but the mapping is a little off. Do you have a solution??
The rest of the tutorial was great btw, I managed to get New Super Mario Bros Wii running on the deck! :)
I'm having the same problem.
@@mariosonicguy2569 Did you figure it out?
@@TheRustyShackleford yeah I think so. All you have to do is hold the options button when you’re on desktop mode. It changes to game pad and then it changes back to desktop when you hold it again.
@@mariosonicguy2569 I am having the same issue... which options button? do you mean the iron wheel? this doesnt solve my issue :(
@@dad8562 the 3 line small button top right
Good day! I'm having problem with my emudeck dolphin wii controller set up. In your video around 6:38, that's where my problem is. I can't configure the direction buttons to make the game work. I'm not using any external controllers, just the built in steamdeck buttons. Hope you can guide me as to what is the correct input for the 4 direction buttons namely up, down, left, right and the start, select buttons. I didn't change any of the default button settings for the A, B, 1, 2, -, +, home.. Which are set to default click 1, click 3, 1, 2, Q, E, Return. Thank you!
This video does not use Emudeck
I couldn’t get the parser working with my SD card any one else have issues there?
I keep having flickering lights and textures.
When I try set up my button configurations it won’t detect my buttons on the steam deck. Any suggestions and this is under SDL/0/Microsoft X-Box 360 0
Finally Metroid Prime portable.
Mute your damn discord notifications.
Please help me! Everything works well playing GC and Wii roms on Steam Deck, but Dolphin won't recognize a second controller no matter what I do, so I can't play multi-player with my friends. Any ideas? I've already edited ini file.
bro can u please make one for flycast im having such a hard time trying to get it set up all my dreamcast games are showing in steam but can not for the life of me have them open with flycast flatpak
My games just won’t load why
My SD card doesn't show up on the add games....what am I missing or what do I need to change to see my SD card, as that's where I placed my roms.
I can’t find steam for the steam directory help pls
I still cant run Rouge squadron 2
If you hook up Bluetooth controllers can you do multiplayer on the emulated games?
Yes on Dreamcast you can can’t seem to get GameCube multiplayer to work though
I just got my steam deck ordered today and ima definitely look to your channel for stuff. The one game cube game i have wanted to replay is gotcha force and now i might have the ability to. Great video Alex ty.
How can I set up cemu on steam deck
I cannot get the SDL/0/Microsoft xbox 360 pad 0 to detect any inputs in the controller menu no matter what I do. Even after doing a full removal and reinstall of dolphin, and launching it through steam exactly as you have shown in this guide. It still does not respond to inputs like you demonstrate @5:40. i wonder if this is a recent bug or something? I am running Dolphin v5.0-19368. Is anybody able to echo my experience, or know what might be my issue?
I figured it out.
After adding dolphin into steam, I then had to switch back into game mode rather than desktop mode, and configure the controller settings from there. Now it's all working great.
@@emilne83do you do it on the app or the steam deck community?
How do you put cheats for GameCube games?
Trying to map the controller, I’m using a wired Xbox Series controller. The Deck is reading the controller, I’m able to use it as if I’m using the Deck’s joysticks and buttons, but when I click/press on each button and the input changes to the “…” I’m not able to assign a controller button, it just doesn’t read any inputs from the Xbox controller when I’m trying to assign the buttons. Anybody know what I’m missing?
Just tried assigning the buttons using the Steam Deck’s buttons, and that doesn’t work either, so it’s not just the Xbox controller I’m trying to use, there must be some setting I need to change somewhere.
Oop. Never mind, I figured it out. I had the wrong controller selected. I was on the one shown in the video. I needed to select “evdev/0/Generic X-Box pad”.
I tried this any now i cant load preview in steam rom manager? Any ideas ive tried deleting still wont work
Please do gameboy advance 😅
I'm enjoying my steam deck so much I'm just waiting for more money to come in to get a dock monitor and other stuff for it
Tried to open the rom but it gave me an error. Is there something I'm doing wrong?
I followed you video to a tea and still can't get the hand to move to pick icon for super Mario galaxy 2. I mapped game cube and wii like you showed. What did i do wrong? I went into steam deck settings to try to pick a control set up. How do you get the track pad to move hand like a wii remote? This is the one game i wanted to emulate.loved first one i played on switch. I wish they would bring 2 to switch but i don't think that will happen.please get back to me. Games on already i just need to no what i missed or was not in video.thanks.
did you even get it figured out? what did you do?
@@thomaszinecker1785 no i gave up on it and just got a wiiu and galaxy 2 on ebay cheap but even with me sucking with trying to do all you can with the steam deck i am glad i got one because of the steam key sites were you can get games very cheap and me never having a pc their alot of games that never came to other systems. I got like 100 games now on it some free which is cool to.thanks for trying to help. I just not pc smart at all.
Twilight Princess on Dolphin is laggy in certain areas, do you know a why to fix it?
I believe for Twilight Princess specifically there is a patch in Dolphin you have to activate called something like "Hyrule Field Speed Hack", that should, in theory, fix your issues.
say does anyone know some safe download links for gamecube roms? i done know which ones are.
Did you have to use power tools to tweak some of these games ?
You can, and it is recommended
Mario Galaxy basically requires you to use it or else it will perform like garbage.
i"m getting pissed that i don't have one in my hands right now my father and mother hate me i hope valve does not hate me each day i don't have the steam deck in my hands i'm getting more and more depressed by youtubers who have the steam deck when i just have my shitty switch and laptop when i have the steam deck in my hands i don't need the switch anymore
Am i insane or can i just not stand hearing the discord ping sound showing up in videos lol
Does Brawl Project M work on here?
Where do I get those isos?
Melee!!!!!!!!!!!!!
How did you get your sd card to show?
Open dolphin file manager and drag it to the window when it asked you where your roms are
