He certainly can (and does) produce two sounds at once. One or both sounds then often sound "subdued". Good examples are at 2:43 (the short laugh-like sound) and 3:00 (the short and quite faint human-like "voice" in the background). The vocal organ of birds (called syrinx) is located deep inside the trachea (windpipe) and exactly where the trachea branches off to the left and right lungs. Starlings as well as other songbirds can control both sides of the syrinx independently and thus produce two different sounds, However, these sounds are less brilliant and forceful, as only the air flow from one half of the lungs is available for each sound.
