    That was cute when the few chickens slipped out and you had to chase them down. Love the time lapse. My chicken tractor is definitely not this nice.

    Are you finding you have to fertilize less after running them through? I had this same idea and there seems to be very few people tractoring chickens in a hop yard!

    Hello! If there are long periods of rain, for example 4-5 days, and the pasture is soaked, how do we keep the chickens from getting wet and sick while in the chicken tracktor? If we don't have a dry shed built nearby, is there a solution related to the construction of the chicken tracktor?

    • @2tommyrad

      They grow hops for beer and string the hop plants along wires or string. The poles are for support of the wires and hop plants.

    • @ethanwhite5646

      Healthiest time span between chicken contact is 90 days. To let the ground rest for 90 days is the key. You can adjust that in minor ways, but that is the number most run with so that the manuer has time to decompose properly.

    • @agargoyle12345
      @agargoyle12345 2 роки тому

      I realize this is 2 years old but,... You can raise rabbits this way, but they're diggers, so you need slats or wire across the bottom, which then means the grass has to be short enough to stick up between.

  • @shatanga
    @shatanga 8 років тому

    I wish we could do it at home. We raise chickens too, would have space for tractors but our house is right by the road and everyone could see it. The only chance how to prevent robbers would be probably either photocamera or geese. They kinda make sound always when anyone comes.

    Hi, What happens to chickens in winter or when it rains?

    • @tzoninghard2425
      @tzoninghard2425 3 роки тому +1

      The chickens have roof for the rain and chickens do great in the cold. These are meat burds so most people pause operations over winter as the feed to weight gain ratio is lower. Being meat birds they will only be around for less then 10 weeks. So if you are in a cold climate and the grass dies it might be better to just not raise them at that time.

    • @marbarnes7063
      @marbarnes7063 6 років тому +3

      That's what he was doing at the back of each one. You put the wheel on, move the tractor, take the wheels off to use on the next one. You have to take the wheels off so it sits flush with the ground to keep predators out and chickens in.

    why a bunch of small tractors when you could a few big ones and saved on time labor may be material. their is a lot of waste material in these type of tractors no chicken is 5' tall the tractor could have been 25% bigger if it was just 2 foot tall.

      Reasons for human height structures are convenience of access and space for the birds. They may be flightless but that doesn't mean they don't flutter. A happy animal is a tasty animal.

    • @iwantosavemoney
      @iwantosavemoney 9 років тому

      have you seen the standard tractor the joel satin uses not sure if I spelled his name right but it makes since a structure fitting the animal would be much more economical having a 8 feet wall does not make for a happy bird what make you think that you speak chicken?

    • @TheHonestPeanut
      @TheHonestPeanut 9 років тому +3

      Joel Salatin. I think you're referring to his rabbit mobiles? Those are about 2 feet tall. His chicken mobiles are built on massive hay trailers and house hundreds of birds with ample room. Chickens need some height to flutter around. They're "flightless" but they are still birds :)
