@@GreenheartYT_06 Sorry. When I said "I'm about to make" I meant that I've just started. I've been working on the battle system for freaking ever. It's pretty complicated so I have to find javascript solutions to all my problems.
Pretty cool video. I usually go with 250x250 maps to edit, though the 50x50 seems like a good idea too. It seems we have similar techniques to making large maps. I think the main difference I see is that I usually end up making the world map size way bigger than it probably should be lol
I like to keep it small cuz making 50x50 maps is easy and you can get it done in one sitting. + the small the map the more you can pay attention to the details.
So, I noticed the limitation that if I try to make a bigger map, I am restricted by the core value of 256x256 max. And nobody seems to have an answer as to how to extend the max map value. I have experimented quite a bit with this and can't figure out how to get my map bigger than the engines limitations. All I need to know is what js file I need to search to fix the limit.
In MV and MZ the maximum map size is 256x256. I still haven't chosen a version yet. I'm wondering if you think 256x256 is good for a large continent. You were using 500x500. A few other games I know with similar huge world maps were using RPGmaker VX. I guess you're going for a different style. I was thinking of making an overworld map then separate maps for towns and everything. So there's less need for map size. Still 256x256 feels a little bit low.
how do you layer the tilesets from different sets? whenever I do this my entire scene changes to the new tileset. I want to mix and match way more than it seems to let me
@@mykolayzviahintsev1729 a little necro but maybe other people care: How do you copy a map in RPG Maker MV? after shift/rightclicking(this will automatically copy the selected tiles) then go to your new map and then left click or shift/left click... that will put the tiles on the new map...
I'm about to make my first RPG in RPG Maker, and I think this is one of the most useful tutorials I have seen. Thanks, man.
Progress update? :)

Very good advice. It's nice to see a cave look like... A cave! Not this box square stuff you see in other rpg maker games.
Thanks, it's one of the things I learned early on when I started using RM
this is still one of your best videos that changed everything for me in the creation process

I had no idea that you can draw land masses and water like that! I may not be making a world map, but I'll be using that.
Yah definitely lol
Thanks, bro.
This is sick, thanks

256 is good but keep in mind u can have multiple maps for the over world. even in dawn haven I was really using 400 x 500
@@chigooX Yeah I'll probably use multiple connected maps. That also makes it easier to redesign parts of it later if I need to.
How do you get the squares to appear?? I'm on MZ and I don't see any squares to help me line things up...
click on the options in tools

you have to use an image editor like photoshop to build out the pieces you want.
Is there any tools that allow to overlay a real map over the project to scale it 1:1. I'm trying to recreate a city in particular.
yah, you have to get a script to parallax map. rmrk.net/index.php/topic,44635.0.html
try this one
@@chigooX Thank you man. Appreciate it.
Does this tend too lag the game play? Fantastic lesson tho
It can if managed wrong?
Hey could you tell me how to make 500×500..? I cant make it, my rpgmaker max it to 256x256, please help.
You can't without a plugin, and I don't know any.
Thanks. The only thing is that copy & paste tiles in RPG Maker MV do not work
it should, let me get back to u on this.
@@chigooX Thanks, will wait. And there is no such basic function really. I submitted refund on steam bcs of this. RPG Maker MV is pain in the ass

HOW DID WE BOTH COME UP WITH THE SAME NAME
lol what do you mean?
Awesome video, your style is pretty cool. I use MZ. Your content is inspiring. Working on a 250*250 map atm
Thanks, and good luck with your map!
How's performance though?
check it out and see. on my main project.
Making maps this big makes your game lag. In mv you can only make 256x256 maps.
@@zachfutv9986 bigger maps will cause more lag but you can control it .
I’ll pay you 500 dollars to make a game for me!
