Chrysler should have dumped Imperial, and took over Packard.
In order to compete with Cadillac, Chrysler made Imperial a standing brand with everything different than other Chrysler products. This idea lasted from the late 50's of 70's. After that Imperial became another Chrysler products.
If Chrysler had bought Packard, then Packard could compete directly with Cadillac. Packard engineers and build quality were better than Cadillac.
