To get good mates you have to get an energetic mate. Well, it depends on what you mean by horrible that is. Your mates helpful level is dependent on their energeticness and laziness. An energetic mate is more helpful, they will feed the pups more, mark territory sometimes, and will more than likely not eat the calves at the den or rendezvous site unless they are at a low percentage of food. They also help out with hunting more. A lazy mate is more likely going to not feed the pups as often, they will also not mark territory at all, and they usually don't hunt with you and only land some bites here and there. They also will more than likely eat the calves and fawns at the den or rendezvous site. Chances are, you're horrible mates are lazy mates. I used to get a lot of lazy mates too until I found out that it depends on their personality.
@@MayfeatherWC From my observations, I notice that energetic dispersals tend to run around a lot during courtship. They can almost never stay still. Lazy dispersals tend to sit or lay down frequently for some periods of time. I'm sorta picky with my mates; and I spend a lot of time observing their personalities. From what I remember during my courtship with Izuki, I notice she exhibited bold and social behavior but she looked lazy. Er' well, I thought she was lazy. She laid down quite a bit. But, she wasn't as lazy as I thought she was when she was marking, feeding, and carrying the pups. I think the slider must be in the middle for her, she exhibits lazy behavior but does things an energetic mate would do.
The fact that your mate could almost solo accurate raising 6 pups is so impressive :o maybe people can be less intimidated by trying accurate mode after seeing this and thinking they can rely on a good mate ^^
This challenge makes me realize how much work the devs have put into this game, and despite the praise that it receives, I STILL think it's underappreciated. Izuki pictured perfectly how much patience animals (predators specifically in this case) have in real life. We as the players might get too rushing and expect our mates to do everything quickly and we misinterpret the situation as wanting them to be efficient. Loved this challenge and you nailed it!
Quite interesting! I've crafted myself a "coyote hybrid" challenge, and thought it might be interesting to share it. It's based on the fact coyotes have been mating with wolves in the past. Your wolf have to have -2 in strength and health, and you can't compensate with perks. If you can, you have to choose the Youthful Prowess perk. You can choose the other stats and perks as you wish. You can hunt only hares, pronghorns and newborn ungulates. Your mate can hunt everything else, but you can't help them. Mate permadeath on, and you can choose only a 4 stars mate, who has already dispersed from their pack (they can't be part of one of the map's packs). You can use only old coyote dens. I coupled it with the "nomadic lifestyle", with only staying in tall grass, or using coyote's dens only for one sleep (you have to leave after sleeping). I've tried it only in easy so far, but it was... something. I'm not used to the nomadic lifestyle, and finding a 4 stars mate with a good personality was really hard. Can't wait to try it in challenging and accurate.
@@nicholascrabb1391 If you mean your gonna play it in your own time then nobody can stop or judge you. Do whatever you want man. Hell I wouldn't even get mad if you posted it on youtube but I dunno what the culture around wolf quest challenges is like for other people
Ayy that’s the challenge I requested! Good job on making it through with all pups alive, seems like Izuki was a great choice for this difficult challenge!
as terrible as I felt seeing izuki struggle to do things all alone, a deep-seated, vengeful part of me was jubilatIng "yeah, now they see what we have to deal with!"
I have a few challenges that you might like? No den challenge: Once you choose your first den you have to leave the den and only stay in the grass. Rules: You can never choose a new den. One hex buffer challenge: You only claim a one hex buffer surrounding the chosen den. Rules: You can only have a one hex buffer, nothing more than a one hex buffer. And you also can't take territory from rival pack territories (this challenge is not to be mistaken with the one hex territory challenge, this is specifically a one hex buffer challenge) You can only hunt hares or small prey/ungulates: During learn hunt and find mate quest you are allowed to hunt ungulates and small prey but during the raise pups to endless summer you have to only hunt hares, beavers, and baby ungulates(if in lost river you can hunt the baby cattle if you want) Rules: You can only hunt hares or beavers mostly(The cattle ranch calves are an exception). And when the hunt ungulates quests arrives baby ungulates are an exception. Beyond the border challenge: In Hellroaring mountain you can only choose the den beyond the Yellowstone border. Also, you can never leave the den either, you must stay there until the flea load kicks you out or if a flood kicks you out. Even then you have to stay beyond the Yellowstone border. Ill also add that even hunting has to be beyond the border or it has to be near the den at least. Rules: You must always stay beyond the Yellowstone border. You can only hunt beyond the Yellowstone border. And even when you get kicked from the den you have to be beyond the Yellowstone border. I hope these interested you! I apologize if this is long, but I hope you like them :)
Also, I really liked your "Only let the mate feed the pups" challenge and I decided to do it myself :) I decided to play as a brand new wolf that I named Ghost and his mate is honestly really good at feeding them. She's also a real help with hunting. She also has good diversity luckily(a 4 star) So far they all are alive. He had 3 girls and 2 boys. I named the girls Hera, Sera, and Vega. The boys I named Lucifer and Onyx. Sadly Sera got sick 😢 I also think that Lucifer is a runt, so that sucks T-T But at least Helen, Ghost's mate, is doing a good job at feeding them 👍
Challenge suggestion: could you try to raise your pups to 20lbs while living completely inside of the cattle ranch? (Can’t go outside of the cattle ranch unless territory needs to be maintained)
Im really curious how mates with different personalities would do on this challenge. Like comparing the results and how many pups survive when a lazy mate vs an energetic mate does this challenge. Also curious how an “average” mate would do. A lot of people say their mates are useless but I wonder if they are being unfair or not
1:26 OMG I had that same problem a few months ago as well. A random bull moose was standing right in front of my den, and it was scary because I thought it would harm my pups :P (I was on Lost River dlc btw)
Dang your mates actually go out and mark?! Istg all mine ever do is sit at the den and eat the food I bring back. I’ve only had one that actually went out to do things 😂
Belkie is such a cute name for bull elk! Also lately, I lucked out. I got a nicely bold mate who is pretty social. Cautiousness may be in the dumps, but I LOVE mates that help out the most. He also got himself killed because he was trying to kill about 8 wolves with me - We got back at them though and killed their leader, he was super helpful during the hunt! At first I didnt have high hopes for him in the courtship, he looked more of a lazy type. I think he is since he sometimes like to lounge around, but he beat my expectations easily by helping me kill 4 wolves (2 of them were packleaders) while on very low health. Then he also helped me kill 4 pronghorn (3 babies, 1 mom) and while it was very strategic, it was worth the satisfaction. Lately ive started with pups and it looks like its gonna go great! While he did do excellent in the marking territory quest and trial, im just hoping he does good in the long run. (Marking territory, feeding pups, etc)
Loved this challenge! I love how much effort you evidently put into your videos, your channel is so under rated! Could you do a challenge where you can only eat rabbits? No other prey?

Did you have to take your mate out hunting, or did she go on her own? I often try to stay with sick pups while a mate goes hunting, but it feels like they just never leave on their own.
Bit of both. When she went out marking, she did find food sometimes and often brought it back for the pups. But for most of the challenge I had to leave the den with her to get her to hunt something for the both of us to be honest. I noticed she left the den more whenever she was hungry enough but that could be some coincidence.
In multiplayer accelerated, newborn ungulates start spawning around when pups reach 11-12 pounds. In singleplayer they arrive somewhere around when pups reach 13-14 pounds. Pups' weight doesn't determine when ungulates should arrive, it's just whenever the game transitions the season to early summer.
