Stuffed Pomfret Fry is a fish recipe where the whole pomfret is stuffed with a green paste and then shallow fried on the pan. This is one of the famous seafood which is served as a side dish. Do try this mouth-watering Stuffed Pomfret Fry at home following the recipe in this video.
Ingredients :
(Serves 2)
- 1 Large Pomfret
- 1 tsp Red Chilli Powder
- Salt
- 1 tbsp Lemon Juice
- 1/2 tsp Turmeric Powder
- 1 cup Fresh Coconut (Chopped)
- 1 cup Fresh Coriander Leaves
- 4-5 Green Chillies
- 5-6 Garlic Cloves
- 2 tbsp Lemon Juice
- 2 tbsp Sugar
- 1/2 tsp Turmeric Powder
- 1 tsp Cumin seeds
- Salt
- 2 tbsp Water
- Oil For Frying
- 1/2 cup Semolina
- 1/2 cup Rice Flour
Method-
1.Take a large pomfret, clean it well by removing the fins, gills, washing and then drying it properly and create a pocket in the fish.
2. Apply red chilli powder, salt, lemon juice and turmeric powder on the fish. Keep it aside for marination.
3. Now take chopped coconut, coriander leaves, green chillies, garlic cloves, lemon juice, sugar, turmeric powder, cumin seeds, salt and water in a grinder and make a thick paste.
4. Fill the fish pockets which is created on both the sides of pomfret evenly.
5. Take semolina and rice flour in a plate and coat the stuffed fish.
6. Heat oil in a Pan, and put the stuffed pomfret to fry. Fry it properly and gently on both the sides.
Once it is fried well, the stuffed pomfret fry is ready to be served.

I am doing just like this the taste is too good. But I am using coconut oil.
Looks like gone are the days of big 1 to 1.5 kg silver pomfrets. What you have is a tiny dark one no bigger than your palm. Over fishing has taken a toll on this beautiful fish.

What happens with the fish stomach?? Do we need to remove that?
Yes, The fish stomach has to be removed. You can ask the fish vendor to remove while purchasing it..

Hey Varun, can we make only a single cut on the side of the fish?
You can go with single cut, for better crispness,taste and flavor of Stuffed Pomfret. Its is suggested to cut from both side.

Just 1 question if you don't mind.
The quantity of ingredients that you used for the stuffing, was it just for 1 fish? What I mean is that if I was say marinating 4 pieces of pomfret, would I have to add 4 times the quantity????
