Beautiful performance... I love the posture of every performer... especially concert leader... conduct too
Oh! How beautiful. This is a sort of hymn praise to Almighty God, who is worthy of all our praise. His "Elijah" oratorio is even more breathtaking.
Mendelssohn is a great Alchemist of the soul
The wonderfulness and comfort of this performance are off the charts, and far superior splendor
Magnifique interprétation
No Kidding, this is One of the most Enjoyable Symphonies ever written.
Well, it's not a symphony. And if it were, it wasn't Mendelssohn's Second. What happened is that the "No. 2" spot was never filled, so they plopped this piece in since Mendelssohn called it a "Symphony-Cantata". He never intended it to be a symphony, though, more something in the line of his other vocal works. Mendelssohn's symphonic chronology is a mess anyway. In order of writing they are 1-5-4-3. Or, if you count the "String Symphonies" as symphonies, nos. 14 through 17 in whatever order. In any event, this work is out. Cracking piece, though.
I agree, but unfortunately one of the worst performances, compared to this one...ua-cam.com/video/GU9eUkQdbjs/v-deo.html
@@bomcabedal I appreciate your explanation. Good stuff. I wish I knew more about the repertoire. Seems the 'format' of the symphony was thrown completely out the window when Mahler came on the scene and broke all the 'rules'. Maybe he wasn't the first, but how #8 (Symphony of a Thousand) and Das Lied von der Erde are called 'symphonies' is out of my reach to comprehend (and I love both works).
@Michael Caito Rather than any revolution taking place, I think the classical symphony became gradually eroded as other factors became more important than adherence to form. Berlioz's Symphonie Fantastique (1830) is an important work in that regard, but subsequent generations of composers continued the trend, applying form and content much more freely. In that regard, Mahler was not all that important, as his template was not followed by that many others (Contrary to, say, Brahms or Strauss). By the middle of the 20th century, we see works called symphonies that are well under ten minutes long, transpose like nothing else, and don't contain any sonata forms (e.g., Langgaard's 11th and 12th Symphonies).
@@bomcabedal Great information. Thank you for the insight. You seem to be a true student of symphonic music (a symphony lasting under 10 minutes? I always thought Sibelius held the record for shortest symphony), but I don't listen to many 20th century orchestral works past Shostakovich. I do always try to attend the pre-concert lectures provided by our local symphony orchestra, to learn what I can. Interestingly, you mention Strauss, who I wouldn't classify as a symphonist (per se), in the same way I think of Brahms, but in any event, it's good to hear the opinions of a musicologist, what -- after all -- is the difference between a symphony and a tone poem, I'm always learning. You also mention Berlioz, whose relatively early Romeo and Juliet is also called a symphony, or more properly a 'choral symphony' (perhaps like this Mendelssohn 2nd?). In any event, "a symphony by any other name..." a magnificent piece of music (whatever it's called), that dispenses with the template (decades before Mahler was born).
Andres Orozco-Estrada probably has more videos on youtube than any other conductor.

I love Mendelssohn so much.
The best interpretation I have seen and hear!
Sure?
magnifica!!!!!
best rendition of this symphony

Vamos. Ya conocemos el principio del marqueting. No hay excusas!
His 3rd and 4th Symphony are the most played on the radio
Here listening to the music flowing over, flowing around us ✨✨✨✨
love love love
The Viena Miracle has conducted all around Europe. This wonderful Orchestra, which I love along with L'orchestre de Paris sounds really that perfect.
Thank you.
Very good!
Excellent!

Herzlichen Glückwunsch an euch alle.
ALBERTO AGUIAR DA CRUZ. ESTA MAGNIFÍCA SINFONIA É BASTANTE INJUSTIÇADA. ULTIMAMENTE, ELA VEM SENDO COLOCADA NO SEU MERECIDO LUGAR NO REPERTÓRIO DAS GRANDES ORQUESTRAS. A PARTE CORAL DESTA SINFONIA, FAZ EMPALIDECER A PARTE IGUALMENTE CORAL, DA NONA SINFONIA DE BEETHOVEN. PORQUE É MAIS INSPIRADA E MAIS BELA.
Das sind Äußerlichkeiten... Inhaltlich sehr schwach was da angeboten wird.
Chor 25:20
Why are the soloists not credited? Anyone recognize them?
eyebrows of the clairnet guy...
Ahahah so true
If Mendelssohn had been a little crazier or had suffered more this symphony wouldn't be so nice and friendly. I like music that spans the complete emotional spectrum. This music lacks the dark and dangerous side.
Do you then like Haydn?
@@jcui5007 I like Haydn's musical intelligence. The narratives he weaves always have just the right twist and turns. So I appreciative his brain more than his heart.
Without knowing too much about his personal life, he impresses as one of the most positive musical genius.
That’s probably why it’s named the “Hymn of Praise”! If you want the dark side of Mendelssohn, try his Symphony No 3, “The Scottish “.
so he's obliged to suffer and be tormented in order to enhance your aesthetic appreciation?

I’m a career long choral conductor. This is the worst interpretation I have ever hears of this work! There is no sense of the feeling of praise. So mundane and not finding the real music.
Opinions are like asses: everyone has one... Or perhaps you are Mr. Mendelssohn revived, and that is why you allow yourself to criticize this interpretation
@MAY, POR FAVOR VÁ COMENTAR SOBRE SEUS PORCOS, MULAS E ASNOS, PORQUE VOCÊ É UM GRANDE ASNO E IMBECIL. NÃO ENTENDE DE NADA QUE DIZ RESPEITO À MÚSICA ERUDITA E ATÉ MESMO NÃO ENTENDE DE MÚSICA POPULAR. FECHE A SUA BOCA IMBECIL E VÁ CUIDAR DE VACAS E PORCOS.
Excellent
Every minute of this long work is testimonial of the musical genius of Mendelssohn.
