Lyrics : I got the hungrys for your love and I'm waitin' in your welfare line Well I ain't got nothing but the shirt on my back and an old two button suit I walked out on my job about a week ago and now I'm sleepin' in a telephone booth But I'm a gonna be the richest guy around the day you say you're mine I got the hungrys for your love and I'm waitin' in your welfare line Well when I first met you babe you nearly made me wreck my old 49 Cadillac Yeah I knew at a glance that it was you for me I had to have your love by heck Now I'm right back where that I started from but that ain't gonna change my mind I got the hungrys for your love and I'm waitin' in your welfare line Well you made me the top dog on your hill and I was overjoyed But it didn't take long until the thrill was gone I joined the ranks of the unemployd Now I'm right back where that I started from but that ain't gonna change my mind I got the hungrys for your love and I'm waitin' in your welfare line I'm waitin' in your welfare line gimme a hand out I'm waitin' in your welfare line
Oooh yeah baby....waiting for the stemules check......I have a huuuunger for your love...& I'm waiting for my SS check so you can come back home 😊😊😊took some liberties there😆😆😆old songs are the best...
Who didn't love Buck , dude was smooth and down to earth. Watched him on TV as a kid ( mom ,dad, grandparents had his records , now mine) Also on He-Haw in my teenage yrs, and also caught onto the verse from Creedence Clearwater's Lookin' out my Backdoor. Good enough for Fogerty , good enough for me too . Thank you for posting this video . R.I.P. Buck
Buck said he lost his thunder after Don died at 32 years old. Buck Told him over and over to stop riding that stupid motorcycle. Sure enough it killed him..
I was so stewpid when Hee Haw came on tv in Bawston I assumed Roy Clark was the talent and Buck was around just for comedy relief. Only later did I come to realize that while Roy was a fantastic musician it was Buck who was the TRUE GIANT TALENT!! Can't beat him n Don Rich together. IMO.
+inquiry7 Buck is a GREAT TALENT,and no disrespect to him,but the day Don died i think a piece of Buck died!!!! He knew things were gonna be way different,Don was an incredible talent. Don was the Bobby Orr of country music. In which i mean the most versatile musician, the day he died was a HUGE loss too Buck and country music !!!!!!!!!!! Miss BOTH OF YOU GUYS.
+intimidator6969 AGREED!!!! The more I see of Don the more I'm impressed with his musical chops. Love those matching silver sparkle Telecasters he and Buck both had. In a lot of respects Buck NEVER recovered from Don's death.
+inquiry7 I thought the same thing. Roy Clark (I'm a-picking) was the hot guitar player, and Buck Owens (and I'm a-grinning) was there for the funny's. Only later did I realize that Buck was the guy I heard on the nickel jukebox in the diner back in the 1960s doing Tiger By the Tail. Buck Owens had hit after hit, all great songs. Buck Owens and the Buckaroos is my all-time favorite.
Remember I used to throw this on during my high school days , gives me computer lab flash backs , used to play this as a joke and unknowingly turned some people into country fans ... There is something very nostalgic and comforting about these classic country songs ... Reminds me of "Time life" music info commercials , thats probably where i first heard this now that i think of it
Buck Owens and the Buckaroos! Mr. Owens was always sharp dressed and I really dig the "matador" style jackets he wore a lot. His music is first of course and I also remember him from Hee-Haw (but of course).
This song was going through my head this morning; wouldn't leave me alone, so I thought I'd google it and it took me here! It's times like these I love the internet ~ thanks so much for posting!
+SparxFlyin' Sparx You are so right, who knows how many awards that group would have achieved??? The Alabama,Brooks & Dunn of the sixties !!!!!!!!! They had a GREAT SOUND.
On this day in 1966 {March 25th} Buck Owens & the Buckaroos appeared in a sold-out concert at Carnegie Hall in New York City... At the time Buck & the Buckeroos' "Waitin' In Your Welfare Line" was in its sixth of seven weeks at #1 on Billboard's Hot Country Singles chart... It was also the ninth in a string of fourteen straight #1* records on the Hot Country Singles chart... Sadly, exactly forty years later on March 25th, 2006 Alvis Edgar 'Buck' Owens, Jr. passed away at the age of 76... May he R.I.P. * "It Takes People Like You (To Make People Like Me)" broke the string of #1 records, but not by much, for it peaked at #2...
Cannot believe Garth Brooks is getting into the Hall of fame, period, much less before Don, Doyle, Tom, & Willie (esp Don) as well as numerous others who've been neglected. Nashville went to hell along time ago, but now they're ruining the Hall. One day that honor will be worthless too = (
Garth Brooks is a legend compared to a lot of the utter garbage being put out and called "country" today. Ever since Swift it's been a race to the bottom, and it seems like little girls are the only listeners that matter anymore.
Something must be wrong with me, because whenever I hear Buck sing this song. I can't imagine him singing it clean cut and decorated in a yellow rhinestone tuxedo. When I close my eyes to listen to it (especially the original studio version), I'd I somehow visualize him in his early 1980's Hee Haw days with shaggy hair, scruffy beard, cowboy hat, and flannel shirt, and jeans/overalls, looking haggard, tired, and weathered/travelled, while playing his red, white and blue Mosrite guitar. It just seems weird to me seeing him perform it with this young tailored appearance.
All the Country Western stars of that period wore those spangly Nudie suits. Even some rock and rollers took to that look (Gram Parson's Flying Burrito Brothers). It was all good fun until you had to pay the dry cleaners' bill.
Lyrics :
I got the hungrys for your love and I'm waitin' in your welfare line
Well I ain't got nothing but the shirt on my back and an old two button suit
I walked out on my job about a week ago and now I'm sleepin' in a telephone booth
But I'm a gonna be the richest guy around the day you say you're mine
I got the hungrys for your love and I'm waitin' in your welfare line
Well when I first met you babe you nearly made me wreck my old 49 Cadillac
Yeah I knew at a glance that it was you for me I had to have your love by heck
Now I'm right back where that I started from but that ain't gonna change my mind
I got the hungrys for your love and I'm waitin' in your welfare line
Well you made me the top dog on your hill and I was overjoyed
But it didn't take long until the thrill was gone I joined the ranks of the unemployd
Now I'm right back where that I started from but that ain't gonna change my mind
I got the hungrys for your love and I'm waitin' in your welfare line
I'm waitin' in your welfare line gimme a hand out I'm waitin' in your welfare line
Good music ❤️

This man is a national treasure.

A great song! Don Rich on the guitar was a great musician!

Bless his soul. He wrote and sang songs with good lyrics. Don Rich was a class act, too. Love you Buck. RIP to both of ya.
Buck said he lost his thunder after Don died at 32 years old. Buck Told him over and over to stop riding that stupid motorcycle. Sure enough it killed him..

Been a fan of old Buck and his crew" right from the start " and that will not change
This song was going through my head this morning; wouldn't leave me alone, so I thought I'd google it and it took me here! It's times like these I love the internet ~ thanks so much for posting!
You wrote this 9 years ago, but it goes on in our minds. Going thru my head this am, and I googled!
Nobody has ever been able to harmonize with Buck like Don---& I had a major crush on Don! He was so talented--sad he was taken from us...
+SparxFlyin' Sparx You are so right, who knows how many awards that group would have achieved??? The Alabama,Brooks & Dunn of the sixties !!!!!!!!! They had a GREAT SOUND.

That is no shit. There is no talent these days.
“One day that honor will be worthless” it’s a damn shame but its been that way for years and counting. Same deal with the RnR hall of fame...
Garth okay but he has nothing on Buck Owen's hes 1 quarter of Bucks Talent
Garth Brooks is a legend compared to a lot of the utter garbage being put out and called "country" today. Ever since Swift it's been a race to the bottom, and it seems like little girls are the only listeners that matter anymore.
Barf is the cause of the decline of country music
Fuckin Good!!!!
Just a quick question dose anyone else say my ole 49 pink Cadillac when he doesn’t say it I always say it for some reason

@brianallancobb Yea, we're not deaf. Thanks for posting the lyrics.
I work with a guy named Tiger and his wife grabs his peewee and sings this song to him. So he says.🤷♂️
@brianallancobb when i hear this i hear... "but i'm a'gonna be the richest guy around" "the day you say you're mine"
Unemployment brought me here
I love Buck but it's sad that the rest of these guys didn't half of the money that Buck's worth for playing by his side!
