Regarding your comment on shipping: I have set up systems in the past where every product is weighed and the weight is part of the inventory system. When an order comes in, the software knows how much the products weigh, then adds a certain amount of additional weight for packaging (for example, if everything weighs 2 lbs, it would add 6 oz for packing material, for a total weight of 2.6 lbs (which USPS would round up to 3 lbs for Ground Advantage). I usually err on the side of adding too much extra weight for packaging, just to ensure things don’t get returned or arrive at the customer marked postage due. There may be instances when you lose a little money on wasted postage, but you have to weigh that against how much time you can save by not having to do things in a particular order, or weigh out every package. It’s something to consider, anyway, and eventually it will be important for being able to scale easily. I hope that helps! 👍
What website platform do you use? I’m not sure Wix does that, but if they did it would be a total game changer!!
@@theaestheticdollarOh gosh, this was a few years ago… I think the backend was custom-built, or it might have been a WordPress plugin. I have a *little* experience with Wix, and I know it lets you add item weights, but I’m not sure it allows for dynamic packaging weight… but then I think it must somehow, because some high-volume companies use Wix and they must have been able to scale up. It might be worth working with a Wix Professional at least to see what’s possible. I did some googling, and it looks like you’d want to use USPS Calculated Shipping (instead of Rate by Weight), and then add in an additional cost for packaging. You’d have to do this per region, but based on what I read it should update whenever the Postal Service updates their rates.

Love watching your channel. We have a small shipping business, as well. We started out packing orders up in boxes and bags for drop off, in the beginning. My local PO started giving me shipping bins to fill and drop off to them. I hand in my filled bins each day and they give me the empty ones back to fill again the next day. I also use a cart that folds up and stays in my suv. (The Rock-n-roller cart) This way I can stack alot of PO mail bins on the cart and wheel in the PO. In the early days, I had to make multiple trips inside everyday to get all of my orders dropped off. Hope this helps! What tape dispenser do you use?
