Hope you all enjoyed the video, I'm going to say the same thing that I said on my Presence video. Instead of nitpicking all the little things you disagree with try to look at the argument holistically (that means look at the entire argument together not just one part of it you have a problem with). You might not find every instance compelling on it's own (and I wouldn't expect anyone to) but I do think it's a little ridiculous to reject it whole sale as this ability is clearly something that exists within DC.

Now you have me thinking! Speaking of the Narrative (magic) of the story of Superman, I'm noticing something similar taking place from another one of my favorite characters; The Batman Who Laughs. He seems to be the embodiment of archetype of unbridled Meta Chaos, something in the vein of Nyarlahotep from Lovecraftian lore. I wouldn't mind seeing your analysis on this character dow road. I will be watching nonetheless.

Oh boy, The Story of Superman is actually beautiful and makes a lot of sense, I began watching this video hating the plot armor and ended loving the story of superman
that's because alot of ppl have either forgotten or don't know who the character is..... ppl today just see him as one big op tool writers use to wrap shit up story wise, which has never been the case.... I dn't agree w/everything this ch says but he does a dame good job explaining who/what this character really is.

The most recent example of this I could think about is Justice League Dark Apocalypse War, the part where Superman repels Trigon from his body, changing him back to normal and starts kicking the crap out of Darkseid.

A better example in that same movie is when Superman returns to Earth and raven is about to kill herself and Superman stops her and hugs her, filling her with hope. Superman had just been tortured, beaten, most of his Justice league team members dead and it's mostly his fault, yet he never loses hope. He is still a beacon, and eventually they manage to defeat Darkseid
@@artu165 that movie is dogshit and a total middle finger to raven's character they butchered ruined nerfed and bastradized her and made her useless. I call it bullshit that a pipe could kill her whoever made that movie made sure to take a whole dumb on raven in this movie and that's what they did successfully. Raven has wolverine levels of pain tolerance and healing factor and durability probably even higher than logan and stamina worth months she healed and took the curse of a child who was cursed by trigon himself and took into her self she once healed from 4th degree burns and survived burns stabs and curses she even resisted hellfirr she's no glass canon in comics she is probably stronger and more durable than logan due to her soulself and demonic physiology but some dipshits decided to reduce her into a useless weakling... they literally made her sakura of that film and she's anything but THAT in the comics which is an absurd claim yet still true which sucks cause she's a good character and well developed and fleshed out character arc in the comics and definitely not a pushover like they they portrayed her.
You’ll notice even in Sandman when Morpheus travelled to hell and played the oldest game against the demon to get his crown back the thing that ended the game and defeated “Antilife the end of all things, even gods and universes” was Hope. Which is also Superman’s symbol. And it’s no coincidence as he also defeated Antilife, because he is the embodiment of the concept.
And in DC there is no higher concept.

Hope is so powerful.. all religion is based on hope. We have wars with the HOPE that our society will get better. We go through hard times with the HOPE we will come out a better person. Everything humanity does has a deep deep realization for HOPE. Which is why Superman can never truly die cause he is the HOPE of comics DC and Marvel.

It's funny. I really didn't care for superman for years. I liked him when I was a kid, but not as a teen or young man. Now, however, I like him for reasons completely separate from other characters. I like the concept he represents. Solid video.

While I think this power is broken a bit beyond what it should be (being higher than CAS itself is kinda just weird since he IS the narrative of Supes), this isn't plot armor. If you want plot armor for Superman, go back and read all the crazy crap he was doing in the 40s-70s. He made new powers borderline every issue just to win. THAT is plot armor.
CAS isn't really the Narrative of Superman he is more so the Concept of Superman never losing.

There stories, characters and purposes are different, bro. One is a man striving to surpass the Gods, and another is a God _choosing_ to live and find his humanity among mankind. People give more credit to Goku for being "bad ass" and having to "work for his gains", but they _undercut_ Superman for how much he _has_ to do simply to _exist_ in this world.
Both are awesome in their own ways, though, and I say that as a fan of both for over 30 years.

I was thinking the same thing, I would love for him to go into depth about Aquaman's Water hands, the Trident of Neptune & Trident of Poseidon.
I'd be interested to see if that meta-narrative ability would have any affect when confronting someone from outside the DC metaverse, such as a Marvel character, or if it's something Supes can only call upon when he's on his proverbial home turf. Nevertheless, great video
Andy Versus plot manipulation is an ability certain characters have and if they are fighting you can totally compare their plot abilities, as that is an attribute which allows characters to win fights.
He did not use this meta-narrative in JLA/Avengers, through one might said he did not need to (during the assault on Korna's fortress, he wielded both Mjolnir, thanks to Odin briefly lifting the enchantment and Cap's shield).
He a Cap actually suffer from butting heads seemingly for trivial or no reason, due them both being attuned to their Meta-verse and reacting to the intrusion of the other meta-verse.
Depends honestly on how you view the overvoid. Do you view the over void as containing the marvel universe and others as many think? If so, he totally can. And honestly, this power goes beyond even the overvoid and final heaven, which is insane so if there is ANY META-NARRATIVE power out there that can be used outside of their own continuity, it's this one.
I'll shed some light on this the story of superman falls under a few abilities when it comes to vs battles, which in such standard battle assumptions which is the typical and consistently.
Verified means for 'vs battles regardless of its a crossover or otherwise actually especially for crossverse fights.
If it's something like the one above needing a well functioning system in verse specifically which isn't a hax ability inheritently.
So yes whoever is arguing for superman as long as he understands what's required like if there is literally no other way to win for him.
The story of superman is a passive ability at that point. So yes it'd work, btw it falls under plot manipulation and fate/narritive manip. These hax abilities aren't limited or restrained by in verse rules or stats.
However superman can't just use it either, only if there is no other way to win and at that point is when it'll automatically activate or passively.
I fucking despise "meta-narrative plot manipulation" bs when considering who wins in fictional crossover death matches. Not only that they bring up so much questions that shouldn't need to be asked in the first place (like what would this really mean against a character from a separate series entirely?), they just suck the fun and nuance out of everything and literally dissolves into the equivalent how elementary school kiddies play battle on playground with each other.

@Rikkoo899 the idea of Injustice is that Superman kills Lois on accident. In the emperor Joker comic Superman resists being forced by laws of the universe to kill Lois on willpower alone. He simply wouldn't let it happen.
I've always felt Injustice, despite not being a bad story by itself, had everyone acting very out of character. I think it works best if you look at it as a completely separate thing rather than as a possible timeline for the mainline comics.

If the Story of Superman is linked to Hope do you believe this could be what Dream of the Endless referred to when he used "hope" as a counter to Chronozon turning into Anti-Life? It was stronger then the end of everything (Anti-Life) must as the Story of Superman allows him to be and it's the only time in the ancient game where Dream doesn't actually change into what he is speaking (presumably because he can't).

I think this power applies to the whole trinity such that if they are on the opposing sides of each other, everything goes wrong. Look at Injustice, Flashpoint, Justice Lords and many more. And when the trinity isn't even a fighting force, everything goes wrong again, such as in DCeased or the early part of Dark Knights Metal.
This is the kind of thing that could actually convince me when people throw bad arguments like "he's made to win", or "plot/gag power". Having an in universe hability is one thing. Trying to shove narrative tropes into the logic of a fictional universe, even if there's no internal justification for this, is another.

That 1930s Superman came to our planet in a "rocket ship"; we now _know_ that there is *no* fuel for a _rocket_ which could carry a vessel out of our _solar system,_ let alone galaxy! So it has been updated to a "hyper light star drive", which has been the default since the 70s or so. That is _not the same_ as the _original_ Superman. That "original" Superman also *couldn't fly* in his "original" interpretation; are you going to argue that _Flight_ is not an important update to the character which is a *fundamental aspect* to the way he is _now?_
Not trying to be pedantic here, but let me show you how backwards your point is if we go that way: by your thinking, the Batman from the "original" 1930s _was_ a killer who walked around with a gun... which is true. But then, the mere fact of that in the past makes _our_ current Batman a gun-toting killer by default.... which, by most canon, he is _not,_ nor *has he been* (side stories or _rare_ circumstances not withstanding) for some 8 decades. In fact, his _hatred of guns_ is arguably one of Batman's *most defining elements,* because that's how his parents were killed! So, just like Batman, what Superman _was_ when he first started out and what he _is now_ are *two distinctly separate things!* Even if he _was_ previously made as an "advanced human" you can't use the "original" in this discussion, because its _not_ the one we are talking about.
*2.* You're mixing up your comics. I own *Birthright* and in the _very first issue_ Jor El _literally_ says "His Kryptonian cellular structure will _Drink in_ the radiation of a star so young." So on a _cellular_ level...he's not human. In later issues, Lex Luthor breaks down Superman's abilities and theorizes that yes, the sun is the source of his power, but even _says_ while Superman _looks_ human, he is _not_ human due to his differences ( for instance, "his epidermis, while common in appearance, is harder than diamond,") and _also_ that he would have "anti gravitational nodes" that we Earth Terrans _don't_ possess. In fact, the _whole point_ of Clark saving the African Tribe leader Kobe and learning about the import of Heritage in the second issue is so that he can _balance_ his Alien genetic heritage with his _earthly_ soul and personage.
So yeah, while I can give your point credit in a meta sense, I think you are confusing "humanity" as in _personage_ and "humanity" as in "genetic genus". Superman *firmly* represents the first, but has _little link_ to the second.
*3.* Ummm...dude, I _own_ a 2000 reprint of that 1938 _Action_ comic. Again, you are mixing things up ( BTW, in _no_ 30s or 40s comic was the color of Krypton's sun mentioned; that came later when they needed to explain his growing powers. And it is a _red sun_ mind you, not blue; that sun makes him *stronger.* ) And while they _did_ describe them as "evolving to the peak of human perfection", they *never* called them "humans". Keep in mind, this was simplified for the times, and for easy understanding of the young readers. While the environment of Krypton _did_ account for the differences in evolution, by your _own words_ of them being "more advanced", bro... YOU MAKE MY POINT for me! An _Elephant_ is *millennia* further evolved than a Mastodon... but *they are NOT the SAME species.* YES, they have many genes _in common_ but they are NOT the same thing! An I-Phone is a "more advanced" computer based on _the same_ fundamentals as a 1980s Apple Desk top.... you're saying these things are "basically the same", when an _original_ I-phone and a _current_ I-phone 9 are almost _completely_ incompatible in terms of hardware and software?
Lastly, the whole point of Superman being "the best of us" shows that his HUMANITY is NOT a product of his _genetics_ (which are totally ALIEN) but of his _upbringing!_ I'll grant you, I wasn't a big fan of Byrne's interpretation either, but much of it _does_ still stand in the comics history, so we can't just "deny it." Even you say he is "generally comparable with humans"...that *only* came about because Byrne _erased_ the gravitational differences, major size differences in the planet, and made Superman _totally_ "solar powered", so that without it, he was "basically" human. And in _What_ comic did superman "basically ID a similar DNA code to Lois Lane?" PLEASE post a link here so I can read that. On *no* post-crisis level does _that_ even make sense, because (according to you) they "erased" Byrne's changes, meaning Superman would again be born on a higher gravity planet... but _had he_ been born on a such a world, that fact *by itself* would have altered his molecular density, cell structure, and thus DNA on a _fundamental level,_ just so he could still _look_ humanoid, yet manage to walk _upright_ without his internal organs being _crushed!_
So no, anyway you look at it, Superman is not "totally human. And of you can say with _any_ semblance of seriousness that both evolution _and_ the comic stories themselves are "irrelevant" to your point, then you are pretty much basing this on "because I said so", buddy....and I'm afraid if you can't offer any other _proof,_ than that's just your opinion.

yo parrot great video as all of your content. Serious superman question. In the justice league 2018 six dimension arc. Do you think superman was actually amped by the sun or were was it more mental and hope he was powered by? I know we see him fly through them but i was rereading and 99% of the context, narration, dialogue and showings that the suns in the 6th dimension really had very little effect on superman. Also i realized how much motivational and hope based context snyder wrote in there with his mental state.
