The Last Cane

Facing the decline of a once profitable sugar industry, this short film captures the memories and views of workers who once made vital contributions to what was once the main export earner in Barbados. Present workers also contemplate the future of sugar and the agricultural initiatives currently being pursued.
This project is a collaboration between the NCF's Oral History Programme and the Errol Barrow Centre for Creative Imagination.

Those were the days of fresh raw cane sugar. I love munching the Pan sugar, and molasses and syrup for sweetening lemonade drinks. I recognized some of the places and faces though now deceased. Good old Buckley.❤
