@@OhioShaves most definitely better without even trying it.. Cartridge razors suck and very expensive. Just trying to find one for my fiancé at this point I have the Rex ambassador, thorn and the rockwell tt2...i think I'm pretty well covered with persona blades or the 7am blades on any razor I've got anyway.
I think if I hadn't already made the plunge I would probably start here. That hinge design looks like an exact cartridge razor replacement. Plus a cool carry case. Man that would make a great pay it forward.
I was excited for this review. First of all, I was very impressed that you remembered my comment about it 7 months ago and took the time to go back and reply that the review was coming. Secondly, When I made the switch from a Gillette cartridge razor to a safety razor back in Feb, like you said, it was intimidating, and for me came down to the Proof Whiskey and the Leaf Twig. I am glad to see the Whiskey exceeded your expectations and impressed. I did end up going with the Twig at the time thanks to your reviews and I have no regrets. It's been a great shave and entry into the safety razor arena. I am currently partnering it with the India Astra blades as I could not get my hands on the Russian blades, but I think the mildness of the Twig compliments the blade well. If your curious and still have some laying around, I suggest giving it a shot. I may just be improving, but I have yet to nick/cut myself with this combo (knock on wood). Best part, it's about 0.04¢ per snapped blade and I get 2-3 comfortable shaves from each blade. Even if I did 1 shave per, 0.04¢ is way better than $3.00+ a cartridge. My only concerns I had with the Whiskey were losing the magnetic head and the spring wearing/popping out or getting rusty (I believe the first gen was magnetic). Other than that, it looks like a great transition option. Another Great [made in USA 🙂] Review, Thank You!!
Your videos are awesome, because I watched your videos, i learned to upgrade my shaving technique. I used to buy the Gillette Mach 3's, they were very expensive and I used to do just like you did keep using it over and over to stretch it out as long as they can go which led the irritation because it was dull. Then I bought a cheap double edge razor Van Der Hagen and never went back to disposables again. I upgraded to a Merkur 38c barber pole, have used it for a long time. I bought a Rockwell 6C, and also a murker Futur which I use sometime when I feel daring. I bought Thayers witch hazel and alum bar to finish up my routine and the Thayers is awesome, cool and refreshing and moisturizing. Keep up the great vids.
Great video as always. That’s an awesome looking razor. I just purchased a Merkur 34G to accompany my Henson Al13+. I’m officially a de razor collector.

David, loved the slo mo and the music. Nice editing! Agree that this is a transitional razor for folks, DE shavers are probably not their target market. I can really see this appealing to women. May get one for my wife!

I just saw the Proof the other day, and bought it. Coming from a Mach 5 cartridge system. I shave my head, every couple days. Then I found this channel and down the rabbit hole I am….😂. Now I want to drop like 400+ on some Timeless, and want a bunch of other stuff. Here we go! Haha. I also live in Ohio, close to Wadsworth…so I will support Timeless. They make awesome stuff. I am also a CNC machinist, so I HATE the MIM markings on some of the razors’ bottom plates…so I love the fact they (Timeless) use an EDM to cut their heads/caps…pretty impressive. I just got my Proof in the mail today, got a head and a face shave in. I like it, but I already want a bunch of other stuff. Ordered some soap and a brush, and a few other items…can’t wait to play with all this stuff. Glad to be a part of the channel. Love the channel my man! One of the advantages of a double edge blade is not having to wash out the razor as often. The only razor I own that is single edge is my Alpha Spirit AC razor. It's advantage is the length of the blade. Yes you have to wash more often but the job is done faster. If I was just starting out that razor might be a good option. Not at this stage though. It might make a good head shaver though. Good video. Hope you are healing fast. Cheers- Kevin
With regards to the 'making the switch' at the end, I think a good video would be a 'if you want to use the Proof, here's a good budget brush, soap, blade, alum and post shave' kit that could make a good starter kit. I know there are 'cheaper' razors available, but as you reference this is a perfect transition from the products of today to wet shaving.
Thank you for your thoughtful comment! We greatly value your support and are confident that our razor review will exceed your expectations. Thanks for answering my request and trying out the Proof Whiskey. Mine came in last week. I bought mine for head shaves because I knew I wouldn't like it on my face. I did try it on my face and after using it on one side of my face, I had to finish with my 6C. I love it for my head but not my face. A head shave, huh? Just remember, if I end up looking like a cue ball, I’m blaming you! 😂 No, it could easily handle a few days of my head growth. The nice thing is I wouldn't have to concentrate on my technique.
@ I’ll take the blame for that 😂 I think it would be a smooth easy shave for the dome with it pivoting maybe a little better than the leaf ,shame there isn’t more options for us bald guys ..love the content as always !!
That's awesome! The Proof really does deliver a great shave. With that many razors, you must have tried everything under the sun! Thanks for sharing. What is your favorite blade to put in it? I think I nailed it with the Accu thrive blade. Great combination for me. I love Personna blades

Watched your video last week and u were showing the rockwells and the Henson . So that made me break out my mild Henson lol. But wow I put a feather in it and used goodfellas inferno shave soap and man it was a BBs shave with zero irritation. Terrific combo . Love seeing the new products u show case too. I hope there is a Black Friday sale, I would definitely pick it up at or around $100. Even though I understand the $120 price point with everything being high quality and made in America.
I wasn't a fan of the one blade single razor when I came out a few years ago with the pivot head.. is this razor a good bit better than that one? Have you reviewed the one blade razor?
i have an older version of this , not able tro get the newer as for some reason the place in Denmark i bought it from has bad communication with the guys making The Proof razor
AccuThive, it's made by Accutec: ua-cam.com/video/CCTDAz-EMjs/v-deo.html Made Virginia. I would say it's a step down from a feather, but it's way smoother. I would compare it more to a Kai blade. Smooth
The Proof looks very similar to my OneBlade Genesis single edge razor. However, now I have a Timeless Titanium DE razor and a Rockwell 6S - both are awesome DE razors. How's your leg doing?
This Whiskey razor is on another level compared to oneblade, at least for me. I struggled with the one blade. No learning incurred with this one. Straight running gun baby. I was really impressed. Those two razors are in my top razors. The titanium 95 open comb is probably my favorite Razor right now. It shaves so well. As for the Rockwell, it just rock 'n' roll baby. Healing well still have a slight infection that I'm gonna be dealing with for a while. Now I'm on oral medication which is nice. I had a pick line put in my arm to take the medication through an IV for 6 weeks. That was tough.
Thanks for the review. So I've jumped from catridges to the Leaf Thorn (medium aggression) about 6 months ago. After much practice I can shave without nicks, but I'm finding the technique needs to be perfect. There's no forgiveness. A small lapse in concentration, and boom: a nick. So I'm having to decide between the following in the efforts to find the razer that is both a bit more forgiving, while still providing a close shave: the mild Leaf Twig; the Whiskey Proof; or the Henson AL13. Clearly you think the Proof is forgiving, albeit you have to press harder (than usual safety razor pressures and at the level of a cartridge). But you've also said of the Henson, "if it is not at the right angle, it doesn't cut". Am I right to infer you think that compared to the Proof the Henson offers a superior shave, while still being forgiving. And it's just that the Proof, in being even more forgiving but perhaps not offering as close a shave (for the same number of passes), is a *mere* "gateway" into the safety razor world rather than a destination?
Henson is a great razor for learning technique. Have you tried different blades in your Thorn? Like a variety pack. I get more perfect shaves with a Henson. @@OhioShaves Yeah I've iterated over several blade types for the Thorn. Tried Feathers, Nacets, Astras, Persona Lab Blues, and more. Just ordered another set form Razor Blade Club. I think Nacets are my top pick, possibly partly prejudiced by your "I'm liking the Nacets". For me the (oh so subtle) test for the blade is the feel of the pull on a downward stroke of the neck, on and around the adam's apple. Nacets seem smoothest here. Thanks for confirming that you get more perefect shaves form the Henson, compared to the Proof. That tips me in favour of the Henson next. Thanks for the code.
Thanks for the video mate. Cella is an amazing soap wonderful scent and performance. Razor would not be great I think for people with sensitive skin like me. Just found somewhere in Aus where I can get comfort coats and Personna Platinum's so I'll be set for a while.
i have both proof razors. They work much better with a sharp blade in it. While the head doesn't come off with the new one, i wish they made it out of something heavier. To me because of the aluminum, you definitely have to press to engage the head. If it was heavier (steel or some other heavier in the material in the body) with the built in angle, the head should automatically engage and you wouldn't need to remember to engage it when shaving. The only drawback with me is that even though it is scalloped it occasionally drags to the point where it would nick me.
@@OhioShaves Because of the small gap, I've had to make multiple passes to remove growth especially if I didn't shave for a few days. The holder also boosts as a stand for the razor as well vs pinching the head and leaving it horizontal.
I'm enjoying my DE razors but this could be what I recommend to people coming fresh from cartridges. Do you think this would be a good body shaver for women or head shavers? Might pick one up as a gift.
Nice video again! Took your time and informed is very well throughout the stages. Isn’t the thayers nullifying the aftershave balm? I am not sure about the effectiveness when combined together… do you really feel any difference with or without the thayers?? Have a great day mate!! #MWSGA
Thank you much. Thayers is a facial toner which yes I can feel the difference when I don't use it. I try to remember to put it on everyday in the winter months to keep my skin fresh #MWSGA💈👍
Seems like a brief stopping point for those coming from cartridge razors before they go to a DE or Twig/Thorn. Pivoting heads seem to struggle with lots of growth. Probably a better test would be a day or two growth in terms of how hard you have to press.
Had to return the proof Henson is a lot better it’s just idk it wasn’t for me the leaf I’m gonna stick with it gets me baby smooth no stubble at all but u need a aftershave
Razor looks like a good one for someone who uses disposable razors trying to make the switch to a DE razor. The pivoting head makes it easy for someone to always have the correct angle shaving without needing to hold the correct angle with a double edge blade. The only thing that makes me nervous is how much pressure you are using to get the razor to cut your beard. If you use that much pressure using a regular double edge razor or a Futur it would turn out very bad. But the razor looks impressive and easy to use for a beginner.
You're right! The pivoting head definitely helps with the angle, making it more user-friendly for those transitioning from disposables. It's important to find the right balance of pressure, though. Practice makes perfect!
@@OhioShaves I shave my head every couple of days, so thinking the Proof might work for me on the head. Yes people say it is mild but that might be right in this scenario. Just the cost + shipping and exchange rate to Australia isn't great at the moment..
Open comb. I love it on both face and head shaves. It has zero blade feel and removes little or a lot of growth. The balance of the razor is different than any other blade out there. The shaving experience is so unique compared to others out here as well.
I'm not a fan of safety razors even though I have one I inherited one from my late dad. I use the Gillette fusion 5 been using it for a while. Is this razor as good as the fusion 5.
This razor looks great! The pivoting head here could make the process of transitioning from cartridge razors easier because there is no need for major change of shaving technique. But there is one structural point, not a flaw, but rather a point to keep in mind. Neodymium magnets don't like heat. And some like it hot. Not the magnets, but the blades. I, personally, prefer it cold, but some people like to have a warm or hot razor on their skin. So, how hot is water in your hot water tap? And what grade are those magnets? Because low grade magnets have working temperature of 80 C. When subjected to higher temperatures, they loose their magnetic power, meaning in several years the magnets won't hold the cover as good as they used to in the beginning. I have hot water coming from my boiler at 80 C. So, I woudn't wash this razor in only hot water after shaving, warm yes, but not only hot. And I wouldn't use boiling water to disinfect it. But this is a hypothetical situation. I think Proof designers considered it when they modified version 1 into version 2. I hope they used better magnets, with the working temperature of 100 C and more.
They definitely use better magnets because now it's kind of difficult to pull off the top cap compared to version one where it would pop off when you shaved. As for the magnets, I'm not sure about that. Might be a question for the manufacturer.
I'd rather not use a new blade every time. I usually find new blades to feel "scratchy". Especially a Rockwell blade. After the first time I feel that I get a less irritable shave.
@marconapolitano8505 it might be the razor, brother. My guess is the blade feel is causing the irritation, if you’re like me. I struggle with razors that have blade feel. I would recommend a Rockwell Razor. The reason I say this is they have a neutral blade field and a super smooth shaving experience for me and a ton of other people and the wet shaving community. On a better note, they’re having a huge sale right now up to 50% off. You might want to check it out. Great video, but I have a feeling that that spring is going to wear out very fast. Would probably need a long term video on it's durability to convince me. The design has another problem in the detailing department. Same as my Leaf razor, under the nose is just going to be a problem. Not sure why no one has thought about just making a double edge swivel with the top part being a trim blade. It would be a little tricky to use, but it would obfuscate the need for a second razor to due fine trimming.
Thanks for sharing. I think the twig razor is the easiest razor to detail with. I have no problem with it under my nose at all. It’s actually the easiest one out of all the double edge, razors I use.
I also noticed that exposed spring just waiting to break over time. To be honest, I think having several razors on deck and keeping them properly maintained and cleaned after every use will have them last a very long time.
You tried the whiskey, or the high proof. I have some pretty thick coarse hair and it went right through. It took a little more time, but still went through it. Especially on my neck where my skin is very sensitive. I didn’t even have Razor burn well maybe Alum block helped aton.
Whiskey. The one you showed. I have the same type of beard you have. My face is just use to safety razors. I agree it’s good for someone thinking of switching. Your videos are great! Keep them coming!
Had the first version and hated it. I gave it away and they hated it. Clogged way to easy and it would stick to my face while shaving. Too much money to give the new version a try.
I agree I didn’t care for the first one as well. The top cap kept coming off for me. They’ve made a revision and it’s phenomenal. But I feel your pain.
@michaeldietzen8613 I believe they have a return policy so there’s no gamble here. I can definitely tell you you’re not gonna be disappointed. I was floored on how well this Razor shaved it out performed my old Gillette fusion by 10.
Do you think this would be good alternative to disposable cartridge razors. Like Gillette, Harry and the Dollar Shave Club?

Bro glad to see you doing better, shave time for me also!🙏
Thank you much. Your prayers are helping.
@OhioShaves always bro🙏
I wasn't a fan of the one blade single razor when I came out a few years ago with the pivot head.. is this razor a good bit better than that one? Have you reviewed the one blade razor?
This is way better than the oneblade. They did a redesign and it’s a wonderful shaver per my Father.
@OhioShaves ok. Thanks! I may try it! Thanks for the review!
i have an older version of this , not able tro get the newer as for some reason the place in Denmark i bought it from has bad communication with the guys making The Proof razor
Thanks for sharing
Another great video and review. What blade did you say you are using and how do they compare to Feather?
AccuThive, it's made by Accutec: ua-cam.com/video/CCTDAz-EMjs/v-deo.html Made Virginia. I would say it's a step down from a feather, but it's way smoother. I would compare it more to a Kai blade. Smooth
Thanks,Dave. Any companies you know that sell a sample of them?
Matt over at Razor Emporium. I don’t have a link to give you.
Thanks. I will try them. They are quite expensive if I bought 50 or 100 and might not like them.
@ take care of that leg and don't over do it.
Buy Direct and Save-

That's great news you found those blades
So how much is this razor..? My lady needs a switch over... She tried the thorn didn't like it.
She will love it!

It's in the link he provided. ($120.00)
i have both proof razors.
I will pass that along to the manufacturer
@@OhioShaves Because of the small gap, I've had to make multiple passes to remove growth especially if I didn't shave for a few days. The holder also boosts as a stand for the razor as well vs pinching the head and leaving it horizontal.
@rangiz99 it removed 7 days of growth for me in this video. The blade you use is a huge factor.
I'm enjoying my DE razors but this could be what I recommend to people coming fresh from cartridges. Do you think this would be a good body shaver for women or head shavers? Might pick one up as a gift.
It definitely would make a great gift for someone new to DE razors. Head and body would be know problem
@OhioShaves presume you meant no problem?
Nice video again! Took your time and informed is very well throughout the stages. Isn’t the thayers nullifying the aftershave balm? I am not sure about the effectiveness when combined together… do you really feel any difference with or without the thayers?? Have a great day mate!! #MWSGA
Thank you much. Thayers is a facial toner which yes I can feel the difference when I don't use it. I try to remember to put it on everyday in the winter months to keep my skin fresh #MWSGA💈👍
I wonder how it would perform with a Feather or Kai blade
I would say very well if you like those blades.
High proof is a great razor and in the rotation. We'll made and efficient. Beats any disposable, my experience.
Cheers to all, John
Cheers, John! Glad you're loving the High Proof. This is the Whiskey razor be Proof a stuff above the high proof razor for sure
Seems like a brief stopping point for those coming from cartridge razors before they go to a DE or Twig/Thorn. Pivoting heads seem to struggle with lots of growth. Probably a better test would be a day or two growth in terms of how hard you have to press.
it went right through seven days of growth, which in my opinion is phenomenal
Had to return the proof Henson is a lot better it’s just idk it wasn’t for me the leaf I’m gonna stick with it gets me baby smooth no stubble at all but u need a aftershave
Thanks for sharing
G'day,
Be good to see you do a head shave with it and get your perspective.
Cheers mate
That could happen. Had a weeks worth of growth here and had to use the leaf shaver with all of its aggression to remove the hair and two passes.
@@OhioShaves I shave my head every couple of days, so thinking the Proof might work for me on the head. Yes people say it is mild but that might be right in this scenario.
Just the cost + shipping and exchange rate to Australia isn't great at the moment..
Right now which razor is the best for you for headshave and for faceshave. The one you love more to use your go to
Ti95 BYOR Safety Razor: timelessrazor.com/products/tibyor-build-your-own-titanium-double-edge-safety-razor-starting-at-230?rs_ref=giTOaqy8
So you dont have a favorite one for headshave and for face shave. Godbless you always and your family my brother
@@OhioShaves you got the original or open comb
It's better. It won't disappoint you
The proof is a great headshaver🎉
Nice. I will have to try it. Thanks for sharing
Might be a question for the manufacturer.
i look forward to an update after and about your dad using it.
I will be sure to let you know what he thinks about it!
I'd rather not use a new blade every time. I usually find new blades to feel "scratchy". Especially a Rockwell blade. After the first time I feel that I get a less irritable shave.
I can see that. Can you feel my pain? I have too because I’m reviewing new razors
Congratulations on the videos what razor advice I shave every 4 days I have a hard beard that goes in various directions
What are you currently using?
@ game changer 0,76p But after shaving I get irritated and it's not pleasant
Have you tried different blades? Have you tried preshave oil or anything appreciate? Do you use Alum block and Thayers at the end of your shave?
@ Yes, I already use all this written by you. I also have a good manual skills. I've tried various blades, my favorite are the platinum ones
Buy Direct and Save-

Tried it but it tore my face up. Too mild for me even with a Feather Blade. I like the idea though
@DanBennett_rtr I prefer double edge myself. Thanks for your support.
David Awesome video! I love the way you are doing your videos. #mwsga.
Thanks a ton! Glad you’re loving the vids! Keep it real! #mwsga.🤩
@OhioShaves i want to give it a shot but it's a lot of money to gamble on.
@michaeldietzen8613 I believe they have a return policy so there’s no gamble here. I can definitely tell you you’re not gonna be disappointed. I was floored on how well this Razor shaved it out performed my old Gillette fusion by 10.
Hi david I hope you're being fine because I see you at the medical center
oh yeah. Which one?
