Incredible playthrough! I came here out of curiosity after watching Game Center CX's episode about this game. It took Chief Arino 17 hours to beat it, and with intense help! This game looks so frustrating, it's refreshing and satisfying to see someone speedrun it.

Yes they were! And that was a good thing. Now it seems that all games are so easy and not that challenging. Heck, some games have tutorials throughout the whole game!
@@TheRetroChallengerV Yea, I remember investing hundreds of hours to video games when I was younger and was determined to beat them and we did. You are right I think it was good that they were harder. It prepared you for the fact that things don't always come easy in this world and that you have to persevere. My favorite was probably Adventures of Link and Super Mario the Lost Worlds.
I’ve played this and have beaten this many times since I was a kid…I’ve NEVER known about level skipping…(I don’t even think I’ve done it accidentally) Ive NEVER known about the crystals, and NEVER known about the good ending! Ive always wondered what the super coins did…My mind is blown! Finding that second crystal in that crazy maze must have been nearly impossible back in the day without a guide…still a great underrated game…they should have come out with a sequel. Great play through!
I own this game except it’s the Japanese version and it’s on a pirated NES multi-cart. The Japanese version is a lot harder because you have to jump on the ground blocks that contain items multiple times to break them instead of just once, making it a lot harder to discover the hidden items yourself (because who in the right mind is gonna jump 5 times in the same spot?). Also the exit door in the room leading up to the first crystal ball won’t appear unless you enter the room when your score has a 7 as the tens digit. Also if you die in that room then the door disappears and you have to skip it and get the bad ending.
Holy crapinapita. Paul and Andy struggled with this godforsaken game for 4 hours and 39 minutes before they bested it. Granted, they had never played the game prior, but damn dude. Your run was definitely impressive to us. Keep up the great finger work!
Hats off if PTG cleared it in 4 hours! I had never finished the game up until I decided to challenge it. Reaching the good ending is a fucking pain in the ass though!

I'm confused... how did you manage to complete without going outside the pyramid? I remember that there were stages where you are outside. And I also don't remember going through so much bonus stages in the beginning like you did.
When you take a bomb in bonus, there will be one shining, collect all bombs excepting that one and when there's one left, collect it and you'll get instant access to next bonus.
How many endings does this game have? I remember always passing through stages where I exite outside of the pyramid but I don't see them in this video.
@@PhaseControlDNB When completing the first room and entering the 1st bomb phase. You need to pick up one bomb and notice which bomb's fuse lights up. Make sure you pick up that one last and you'll be transported to the next bomb phase. You can keep doing this until the last stage hehe

Have you ever seen Gamecenter cx?? That's where I learned about this game! I highly recommend all retro gamers to check out the show it has subtitles! The host plays the game live and it's so hype! I never seen the true ending before because I personally love trying to do it all by warping but that is freaking awesome! take care!!
