I've always had trouble with smells building up from marking on porous hides/climbs/etc. You're obviously using lots of rope/wood/etc, and I'm wondering if you have tricks to clean them or, if not, how often you find you need to replace them?
Instead of the binder clips on the felt I would sew two seams to fit the dowels & slide it on. But I am a sewer & I know a lot of people don't like sewing lol.
That would definitely look nicer and I’ve thought about doing it, but it’s quicker for me to just clip them on and my rats unfortunately like to occasionally chew up only that fabric so I don’t want to put extra time into something I end up replacing the most. But it’s definitely a good option and I’ve seen a lot of cases where people made some really nice looking slip on hammocks for the dowels, including some doubles and triples, so maybe it’ll be a future project
@@ShadowTheRat Yes, I can see the chewing would be a problem. I don't think I could be bothered by hand sewing, but with a machine it is so fast. I have no rats at the moment, I had them over 20 years ago but I am thinking about some more after my dogs pass. I am at the age where I don't want any more dogs as they might outlive me!. I am just making do with my garden rats, they are entertaining & they don't bother me at all lol.

What is the rat safe paint that you use? I would LOVE to be able to paint items in my rats enclosure!
I use nontoxic washable kids paint by crayola, the same stuff my rats do their paw paintings with! The upside is its safe if they ingest it by accident and super easy to clean off...the downside is that if it gets too wet then it can bleed off lol. I haven't had any issues with the rats markings causing it to bleed though so as long as you let it dry for a few hours first then it works pretty well.
Beautiful! Hey, I have a question. I've been using Yesterday's News as litter for ages and love it but it's been discontinued. I bought a substitute from Amazon (Small Pet Select) & the first box was fine but the 2nd box was way too dusty. I just took in a girl from a rescue with chronic URI so it's an issue. What brand of paper pellets are you using now?
I currently using the marshals ferret litter pellets! They work pretty well, although the bottom of the bag can be a bit crumbly.
i'm so curious how long did it take you to accumulate all of you supplies?
I've had rats for 9 years now and rodents in general for even longer, and some of my stuff from my very first few rodents are still things I use regularly! So everything has very much been accumulated over time and since most of it is washable & reusable I typically circle through what I have with each cage cleaning.
@@ShadowTheRat cool ok I’m on my second round of girl definitely doing better with the cage and was thinking omg how can she get all this stuff so quick. I also have been using reusable more. I also wondered if you had a video about your cage haul like everything you have for them. I was looking thought and could only find smaller hauls. Thx for your quick reply. love your content so much.
