Awesome fix for the ejector spring.
Get a clip latch spring from a Garand. Fulton armory or numrich would have some. File a slot just wide enough for the spring to sit in on the ejector where the leaf spring meets the ejector.
It’s a perfect fit and you can trim the coil spring as needed. You will never have to worry about it again.
I have an Eddystone M1917 and I am also in the process of restoring both a Remington and a Winchester model. These are great rifles. I am personally struck by the fact that both the US and UK were involved in minor conflicts at the turn of the last century in which their adversaries were using the 1893 and 1895 Mauser. Based on their experiences against these weapons, they both decided after the war that they needed to replace their current standard infantry weapon and adopt a more ‘Mauser-like’ rifle. The Americans developed the Springfield M1903 but the Brits were evenly split on whether they could fix the Lee-Enfield or start over with another rifle. The P-13 was adapted to become the P-14, which was eventually cancelled and relegated to second line use. But the rifle came into its own as the US M1917 and was deployed in greater numbers by the US in WW1 - alongside its cousin the M1903 - all because of the Mauser.
Glad I found this, because it made me want to dig mine out of the gun safe. I’ve had it for several years now, and was handed down to me from my grandfather. It’s an all blued Winchester in the 76k range. All parts appear to be original to the rifle except for the rear sight. It’s marked E. Barrel is dated 12-17. Even has the circled star you mentioned in the video, on the receiver! It’s a beautiful rifle. Thanks for the informative video!!

I learned so much, thank you. I went to an estate sale to buy an M1 garand, but at $1800 was out of my budget. They also had an M1917 for $600. I didn’t know anything about it but it was in my budget, so I bought it. I haven’t looked at it since I bought it 2 years ago, I know it’s original, or at least not sportirized, now I’m curious to look up the production date and and try and determine the finish. I’m out of town working right now, so next week when I get home. Thank you again for the good information, I watched a few videos already but it was basically just about how well they shoot.
The one thing I did hear is they still use them in Alaska because they do so well in the cold.
I bought a M-1917 at a gun show about 8 years ago for about 200 bucks that had been sporterized long ago. No iron sights, and the scope mount covers the receiver so I don't know if it's a Winchester, Remington or Eddydstone. Thanks to your podcast I learned it has a Johnson Automatics barrel, a Winchester bolt, and the floorplate has an R when the spring is removed. The serial is in the 147000 range. The rear sight was completely milled and rounded off. Not a bad job, great hunting rifle.Would like to know the receiver make, but don't want to remove the scope mount to find out because it works fine, and I don't want to risk stripping the threads or something.
My Winchester 1917 recoils like a 243 target rifle. It’s a tac driver as well. First two shots to the range I had 3 Randle hand loads that shot sub moa. One load shot all in the same hole!
My flip sight slid all the way down hits POA dead center at 100 yards. The battle sight hits 4”high at 100 yards.
I own this rifle, and Love it. I can still hit center mass at 200 yards with the iron sites. Mine has a stamped Eddystone stock, but was refurbished at some point with a Remington reciever. I will have to check the barrel now to see what it is. Thankfully, all blued parts. I have been looking for a Bayonete and sling for it, either original or reproduction, i am not picky at this point.
If still looking for a reproduction bayonet Sarco gets them in. Originals are fairly pricey if you can find one. The reproductions I received look good.
I just picked up a winchester M1917 all blued in 34000 serial range for 1000 dollars at a gun show i think i did good the stock looks original no refinishing

I recently inherited a 1917 Winchester serial number mid 300000 I'd love to find out it's value it's been in the safe of my dad who was a gunsmith its in pretty good shape .
Highly depends on it's condition and originality. A badly sporterized rifle could be like 250, while a 100% original, non-refurb, great condition one can fetch upwards of 2000

thank you for your videos, i have a question my friend bought her first m1917 Remington we went to open up the bolt it was very tight i almost could not open it ,i sprayed it with ballistol it helped a little. would you have any thoughts on what it might be, i subscribed because you know these rifles well, please help if you can
Could be a few different things. Best course of action would be to disassemble and clean the rifle and bolt. Make sure there aren't any broken pieces or anything stuck in the chamber or lug recesses.

I have a Remington 1917 with serial number 12707. It looks like original bluing and nothing's parkerized. Does that tell you anything about it?
I know nothing about it.
According to records, it was made in November of 1917.
