Lurkers and hydras werent scouted, but a transition was inevitable from roach/swarmhost/nydus.. tho it is dark and clem had no clue where he was going.. no ghosts means he could have just as easily done doubleupgrades on ultras instead of lurkers.. tho to far less effectivity. Lurkers seems like the perfect choice in hindsight- seeing as clem had a tendency to chase after the 5-7 roach counterattacks every time.. what a punish

Even with how he used to use ghosts, with rapid fire it wasn't the kiting that was impressive to me so much as the perfect sim city and back line setup where the ghost could pretty much just keep running back through fortresses and tanks/mines and just have the zerg or protoss kill themselves trying to chase.

Dark has gotta be hands down the most exciting top-tier pro to watch today. Sucks that we're gonna lose him to the military soon, but what a legacy he carved out for himself in SC2. And poor Clem probably can't help but be a little relieved that Dark is finally leaving.

  • @freebornfloor1600
    @freebornfloor1600 Рік тому +2

The final engagement truly was death by thousand cuts. Clem was pressured to push after the backstab and fungalled ghosts and wrongly presumed that the a-moved scvs could deal with the lings. Then he couldnt manage his ghosts energy due to multiple fungals, the leftover infestors forced him to monitor his army as opposed to sending and leaving a force of hellions in him mining bases. He was so used to the games pacing of using ghosts to counter zerg spellcasters, that he couldnt adapt under pressure. Once he realized he lost all his scvs. He lost focus and didnt realize the a-move up the hill split his army, hoping to salvage his botched response against the ling backstab. Even if he were to go up the hill, he would sustain so much splash damage that at most he could equalize the exchange, but the thors were gone at that point with the roaches coming in. Dark only needed to continuously stream lings on the backstab and put roaches at the end. Despite a 40 army unit lead, Dark set up the correct unit counters and responses in the final moments of the game. This is also where the numbers are deceptive, Clem’s army was so battered by the time he pushed in (pressured to do so in fear of infestor fungals/MC) that it was an army made up of glass at that point.
If only Clem wasnt so aftaid of losing his thors that he could spare a small force of hellions to defend his workers, it probably would’ve ended in his favor.

  • @nickv9820

I think 45:15 is the moment that Clem lost game 2 - he loses 5 or 6 Ghosts getting caught out by a fungal, and then proceeds to bleed out another couple that get that get ahead of the Thors in the next engagement. By the time he actually tries to move up to the high ground he only has 2 Ghosts left, each with only a single snipe worth of energy - leaving him with no good tools to deal with the Lurkers.

awe, poor clem, classic mistake.. he pushed into the middle of the map in a choke point, while dark had about .12 supply in teh east and west flanks causing a bit of choas... wit ha central larger force, but clems army was much larger, it needed to be repaired, so an easy surround on open faced Thors, dead, each one is 6 supply...
There are three statges to the game.
    Early game
Mid game (macro and economic and upgrades)
Late game (end of resources, which demonstrates a different skill set)
Clem would of done better transitioning into Tanks and marines with medivacs to do strikes and keeping the thords home or defensive base positions... since there was no more air threats, and its mostly ling bane roach.. so Maruaders bioball is preferred... ghosts are onyl needed as a infestor killing, this owuld of allwoed him to maintain more mining, Just seemed clem, over estiamted his position or thinks hes behind.. but neither was the case... Building a few battle cruisers late game when resoruces are low, is essential for base trading nad warping... an defending yoru flying bases... CLem or many players I find don't experience enough late game shortage of resoruces and make mistakes, CLem pushig up the middle is more a mid game when resoruces adn minign is good. When mining gets low you do perphery attacks ot limit surrounds and shoudl be thinking of how ot retreat... when his bases were no longer udner attack, he shoudl of know they were retreated to his position.. and attacking into those last lurkers really had no really effect.. Before that poitn he had an opprtunity to build a2 bc's and return to a defensive stance.. and manage his economy... at 20 scvs.. but 9 orbitals.. he had about 70 economic mining power in total.. even at 0 scvs, his mules still have him betyween 40-60 mining power, but some had over 100+ energy. so he was standing at around .. 80 -100 mining power. SO he coudl of given himself a significant spike... So if he decided to swap into bio. building into medivacs he can manage his thors since htere is lack of air, and htus micro move them around, and protect against swarms.. at that poitn in the late game transition he failed to defend adquately.. typically as terran in the late game.. your large untis can be a hinderance because of their lack of speed.... so... creating actual walls that your opponent has ot kill to get through is important... which protects your last mining nodes even more. So I recommend late game trasntiion is you build a no escape or entry mining space.. and terran can always fly their production out of hte main and quickly re set up camp.. and when minerals are nto as quick you don't need as much production, so you can fly and move some while producing from others... Once research is done you don't need various types of buildings... but meh.. Clem... did he tilt? Did he give up? WHo knows.. good game though... I'd advise for orbitals which give scans, give a roadblock and can be lifted if they are in too much danger. Although pretty sure that again needs a more stagnant fight, not this wild back and fourth all the time.

But they can still produce auto-turrets from time to time or reduce armor of some zerg units. Keep in mind that raven cost very litte supply for its price. So outside of being a detector, it is also a very supply-friendly unit.
Considering how many scans/mules it would save pros on the long run, I think there are scenarios like this one where making ravens is a good idea. That's why I hate it where they refuse to make them even when situation calls for it.

Zerg have too many options to counter mass armies in the late game. Fungal lurker neuros baling(from beginning to end) can just smash your army. On the other hand terran have very low mobility and need to siege unsiege their best units before attacking.

    • @wuschu5563
      @wuschu5563 Рік тому +3

Nah, just terrans got used to ghost countering entire zerg army. Neural is good only for thors which you should build only as a counter to broodlords. You want to counter them? use ranged libs. You fear abduct? you already have ghosts. Banelings work on ghosts only if you clumb them AND get hit by a fungal not once, but usually twice or you have no transport to pick them up after the fungal ends. All the while fungaled ghosts can still emp back the infestor. The amount of banelings needed to kill one ghost cost more than the ghost itself, so for it to be worth it you NEED to hit multiple, not even counting the cost of banes that are killed on the way. Just to stay even.

Ah yes, the typical don't clump your units, that's such trash tier advice. Terran units clump like crazy by design, having them split takes APM other races simply don't need to use, that point alone shows you don't understand every action takes APM and you simply cannot do everything.
And the fact you think zergs should trade evenly seals the deal, you know their race is build with winning games even when trading negatively right? Staying even isn't even a gameplan.

After there were 4 broods, Clem kept building thors, which got clapped by zergling-roach in the end fight at 46 min after he slowly sniped every single ghost. Clem tunneled vision on lurkers and roaches + zerglings killed the thors. And yes, libs are a good idea, you can see that Clem got liberator range and +3 air weapons for them, but decided to build only two at the very end. But he knew about the option, just decided against it.
Zerg by design is supposed to be inefficient, yes, but only untill late game. That's why they had so many free units. Broodlings, infested terrans, old swarmhosts or amaizing spellcasters. Some of it changed, but the idea still stands.
And don't tell me that ghosts is the only counter. That's exacly what many terrans think and that's what often loses them the game. Broodlords? Vikings, ghosts, thors. Lurkers? Tanks, Libs, ghosts. Ultras? Ghosts, libs, to some extend marauders and thors, but that's a bit more tricky. Ghosts can counter technically all and are simply the most convenient. All of the above is easly countered on their own. The problem is when zerg mixes many unit tipes and tries a deathball. That's when only ghosts won't work. But too many terrans refuse to acknowledge that becouse they prefer to try to micro ghost even better, cause that's the terran mindset.

Very much this. Terrans are a victim of the Terran design in that some of their units are just too good and versatile so they don't adapt and use more targeted counters when it would be good to. It's why Ravens aren't used even though saving scans would be great. It's why it took forever for Terrans to use hellchads and even here Clem built so few of them the thors can just fall to zerg/broodlings without the easy counter to both the hellchads would provide.
It's like they're stuck on the total opposite mindset of the zerg. In that the zerg knows they have to use subpar solutions in great numbers to deal with stuff and need many different subpar answers a lot of the time. While the only time Terran uses units that will die fairly regularly is when they go MMM which has AWESOME efficiency and is useful vs almost everything in number.
Heck it's also why Terrans rarely use thors and BCs, they're pretty good units but they're not as good or versatile as bio (including ghosts here in the bio term), even tanks kind of got overshadowed for a bit there where pro Terrans wouldn't even bother getting them, even vs banelings and lings and would just go bio with the occasional mine backup.

      "Banelings are still broken"
lol wut? How? Yea guiable mega nuke that's relatively slow and can be killed in a plethora of ways, so many ways that Terrans no longer choose the most secure way of dealing with them and instead voluntarily takes the more risky ways and then somehow complains when they don't easily kill them still. Banelings are GAS UNITS and require multiple just to kill the most basic tier 1 units and still have trouble catching anything off creep, even after speed. Before speed they're just useless.

Having 2-3 Queens per hatch has solved that issue years ago; You have the Queens that are being a mobile defense unit and a small handful that serve as the larva spawners.
Alternatively just do as Dark does and buil macro Hatcheries.
"Transfuse has also already been nerfed, players just need to learn to actually play around it..."
There is literally no playing around the case of when a unit is almost dead and "whoops it has recovered 30% of it's HP in an instant". That can be spammed as much as you have energy for.
The only "counter" to Transfuse in the first 6 minutes is the Zerg player falling asleep. And even after that, the Zerg player still needs to be dozing off to give an opponent a chance to counter Transfuse.
"... and stop expecting to run into a fleet of 8-9 of them and still roll everything"
So your proposed way for countering Queens is "just stop trying to slow the Zerg down"? Because that is the only way any early game attack will not run into 8-9 Queens; By not happening in the first place.

It's relevant because it's still a mineral sink while it's also mainly a defensive unit so build time is always important.
"Having 2-3 Queens per hatch has solved that issue years ago;..."
No, it hasn't. It alleviates things but if you can do that it's mostly because the opponent hasn't committed to an actual pressure otherwise you have to pull all of them like what dark did. Not to mention that means they take up a lot of supply then and limit offence.
"There is literally no playing around the case of when a unit is almost dead and "whoops it has recovered 30% of it's HP in an instant". That can be spammed as much as you have energy for..."
The counter is right there in your comment. The energy. Just like with protoss shield battery people need to stop having a mental block around how you're supposed to beat defensive units and structures.
Zerg learned this against Terran ages ago, it's always going to be a battle of attrition unless you're way ahead.
"So your proposed way for countering Queens is "just stop trying to slow the Zerg down"?..."
Again a mental block. Pressure IS slowing them down, just don't try to push past a full 8-9 queens with energy with a handful of units in one engagement.
"Which as far as casters and even combat units are considered is chum change..."
That's why queens are really neither, they're just a defensive unit that maybe could also be considered a support unit.
"Only offensively; And when compared to units with their speed upgrades."
Even on creep they're not as fast as a lot of offensive units which they're built to be against.
