Had I realized this was going to get more than 5 views I would have explained ATO better for general audiences 😅 Also, note: I was wrong. Forest Glen is NOT the deepest station in the Western Hemisphere, or even the US!
They’ve since toned-down ATO’s max authorized speed (Design Speeds) from 75 to 59 after a series of overruns occurring outdoors in inclement weather this past week. They may return to design speeds after some ATO braking adjustments.
It’s PATCO! Oh wait that’s not patco… 😅 It’s awesome ATO is back. Making trains smoother to stop at each station and giving Speed Runners a better chance to beat the record.
@@DanHominem no, when I saw you you were like walking down the ramp from the parking lot and then you went and walked around where you started your video, I had a blue coat over my sweater.
Always a bit surprised how long on average they wait on the Metro to open the doors compared to NYC and other subways I've been on but hopefully they can work on that a bit.

10 seconds to open the doors on an automatic train… crazy
0:59 I’ll have to check but I believe the new Grand Ave Arts/Bunker Hill Station in Los Angeles beat that record in 2023 when it opened
0:52 I swear Forest Glen is the D.C. Equivalant to 191st St in NYC right down to long entrance tunnel.

It's still 75 on certain stretches of track, in inclement weather operators are in manual mode not ATO the station overruns are occurring everywhere
Amazing one-day turnaround for editing this video! It was cool to wave to you through the train window as you passed me lol!

ATO looking so smooth!!
Wouldn’t Washington park in Portland be the deepest station in the western hemisphere?
Looks like it is. I didnt even know Max had undergrounds stations!
@@DanHominem Yeah it's funny the one underground station isn't downtown
I THOUGHT I SAW YOU AT FOREST GLEN BUT I WAS TO AFRAID TO ASK😭 I was the one in the holiday sweater.
I'm not sure I recall seeing anyone like that but it's possible 😅
Were you in the video?

Let’s go ATO!! 🐧
How come the door opening is still so slow?
Another thing is that since the trains can precisely stop it would be great for platform screen doors!
Not necessary since they dont have a high suicide rate

i heard some red line ATO trains overran the station
Oof, hopefully that's an easy fix! I heard there were some issues with accelerating from stations as well.
I never heard of ATO. Should really check out the red line next I’m in DC
I hope these trains are safe in automatic mode! Since 15 years ago!
Waste of money. You’re already paying a driver. Let them drive the trains. That what we’re paying them for!
Oh no. Horrible.
