    Dude.....this finally made sense to me. I have been watching all kinds of CAGED videos but for some reason, the linking of the chords finally clicked. Don't say an old dog can't learn a new trick. Now I just need to practice a bunch more.

    Thank you for this lesson. I have watched many videos on caged. I had a light bulb moment when you said TRIADS ARE PARTS OF THESE CAGED CHORDS / BAR CHORDS.
    i wish there were videos explaining how all these concepts work together / interact ie: chords, scales, triads, arpeggios etc.. Craig Ewinger

    Okay so I know I've been putting all caps comments on your videos all night, Andrew, but also SWEET JESUS WHY DOESN'T EVERYONE EXPLAIN IT LIKE THIS!??!?!?!?! This is SO MUCH SIMPLER than what EVERYONE ELSE ON UA-cam has been doing!!!

    So this is my first time touching a string…what do I need to know first before I do this method? Or can I just start from this method?

    • @andrewclarkeguitar
      @andrewclarkeguitar  4 місяці тому +1

      I'd recommend learning the fundamentals first. Learn your open chords, simple strumming patterns, and some basic fretboard navigation first. Once you've got the hang of that stuff, you can come back here.

    • @CodyCooper-go6dp
      @CodyCooper-go6dp 4 місяці тому

      @@andrewclarkeguitar Do you have any of those lessons? Or possibly know the best direction to go to learn that stuff?

    • @andrewclarkeguitar
      @andrewclarkeguitar  4 місяці тому +1

      @@CodyCooper-go6dp Unfortunately, I don't. My lessons are more geared to those that already know the fundamentals. I do have a beginner roadmap that might help: ua-cam.com/video/vh3QYVJu8BU/v-deo.html
      I think searching for each thing in the roadmap on UA-cam will give you pretty good results.
      At some point I'm hoping to have a total beginner series of videos or course. But I haven't got to it yet.

    Andrew, I'm an old guy who has been playing for a long time but it's all been piecemeal - learning song by song from chord sheets, etc, Therefore, I have not learned the guitar or music, for that matter. I'm taking lessons from a guy now but I find his approach is unstructured and not sequenced. So I'm looking for an A-Z approach that will build my knowledge and flavor up my playing over time....although I don't probably have that many years left, so I need to see more immediate progress commensurate to my level of practice. I like to sing and so I want to learn how to play interestingly while singing. I don't think there's enough time for me to be the next Jeff Beck, right? So, please be honest - is your listen/play course right for me? Another subscriber below referenced a Fretboard Logic course by you which he purchased. Would that be a better starting point and where would I buy it? Thank you. You can teach, brother!

    • @andrewclarkeguitar
      @andrewclarkeguitar  6 місяців тому

      Hey! Sorry for the delay getting back to you. I do think Listen & Play would be great for you if you are wanting to get a deeper understanding of your guitar and build connections between all the different elements in music. The main focus of the course is teaching you how to listen to a song, understand what you're hearing, and apply it to the fretboard. Fretboard Logic is not a course of mine. At this time Listen & Play is the only structured guitar course I offer. Feel free to send me an email if you want to discuss further: andrewclarkeguitar@gmail.com

    I have one question about this ,how to actually know where to play Cshape for C major,or E shape for C major I don't understand that ?

    • @andrewclarkeguitar
      @andrewclarkeguitar  3 місяці тому +1

      It just comes down to aligning the root note of the chord. In the case of all the CAGED shapes the root note is the lowest night in the shape. Whichever note the root is on, that's the chord you're playing.

    Good video - started out great, and I get the concept…. But by the 6 minutes in - my eyes are already glassing over and I’m lost. I just don’t think I’ll ever understand CAGED. I’m a pretty advanced player and know my open shapes and bar chords like the back of my hand…. I’ve watched a ton of videos on CAGED and I’m convinced I’ll just never “get” it.
    Andrew - your videos are amazing though, I have learned so much from other videos… keep it up!! Especially the “home base” video - that was awesome!!

    • @andrewclarkeguitar
      @andrewclarkeguitar  8 місяців тому +2

      I get that. Honestly, I'd say that as long as you know that there are moveable bar chord shapes for C, G, and D then you don't have to worry about the other stuff. Fully knowing the CAGED system isn't necessary, it's just a fretboard navigation tool that works well for SOME guitar players. If it isn't for you, then it's all good.
      I appreciate the kind words and support. All the best! :)

    • @kevinjobe2078

      I once felt like you in regards to CAGED. I suggest learning the notes in the triad of each shape. That somewhat simplifies how you have to view each shape and that helped me actually make the CAGED system useful.

  • @ltvddvtl
    @ltvddvtl 7 місяців тому

    The problem is that CAGED and beginner, as in true beginner, doesn't really mix well. Because it basically depends on barre chords, which most true beginners struggle with.
