- Becky Collins and her gay son Zach describe a pattern of LGBT bullying that lead to a brutal attack. ACLU of Ohio is representing Zach and Becky to protect Zach and other LGBT students from bullying.
The Student Non-Discrimination Act (SNDA) would ban discrimination and harassment based on a students sexual orientation or gender in all U.S. public schools.
Tell Congress to pass SNDA. Go to:

I wish people would stop calling this bullying. This was assault.
How old are you now wow

Seeing him being beaten really struck a nerve in me and brought me to tears. Seeing someone being beaten purely because of their sexuality is so fucking not okay. And it makes me really think about how it'll be for me of people found out that I'm gay at school. If people found out I would be beaten, there is no question. It makes me sick that I and every other lgbt student has to live in fear of being harassed not only in public but even in school which should be a safe environment. It's ridiculous.
your zach deserves the protection of the law and those who enforce it...he is not alone...my sister, at 11, was aggressively assaulted by two boys on the "play"ground who slapped her repeatedly...another girl of her age, silent, homely, and worst of all, alone, was harrassed incesantly...often, victims are too demoralized to even ask for help...this needs to be an issue that receives a "grownup" approach...assault is assault, and these are not trivial scuffles..they damage deeply and forever...
Sorry that Zach had to go threw this :(
Love to you, Zach and Becky. Rock. On.
It really is upsetting to see this. What happened to the abuser was he later charged and arrested ?
I hope so!
Whats the video when hes getting hit?
Bro the comments section is a war zone 💀💀💀💀
This remains me of when Karofsky bullied Kurt in glee. It so sad people treat people like this
People with comments like "who cares if he is gay, he should stand up for himself" are remarkably ignorant. There has probably been bullying since grade school, with very little being done about it. And honestly what is he supposed to do beat up his bullies so that they leave him alone; that's just stupid. If it isn't going to make them leave him alone what does "standing up to" both mean and amount to?
I watched in horror the video of the attack. So glad you survived and are standing up to the school and demanding change. Best wishes!
It is not tattling when physical safety is involved, it is what you are supposed to do.
I live in that district but I am sooo glad I don't go to that school.
Love you Zach!! Your a great friend:)
do u know him?
Zachary's mother was SO wise for refusing to simply leave the school, but rather insisted on due process. Good for her, and I wish Zachary all the best!
Who gives a shit if your gay stand up for yourself and don't let them put u down
Thanks to Becky and Zach for speaking out. Zach is a wonderful young man who should not have had to endure the horrible treatment he received at the hands of bullies. Your refusal to just back down is inspiring!!!
midnight fantom.. I agree with you. I was saddened watching this video that he..she..whatever I don't know what to call it was beaten for being the way it is .I totally agree that straight people are being bullied and forced to support a life style we don't agree with. we get called biggot and other names because we don't agree no one seems to mind calling us names.. but I'm sure because I called him..her an it everyone will call me names. what a bunch of hypocrites. and BTW I wasn't trying to be mean, I didn't want to offend by calling this kid him or her, I know that whatever I say will be wrong.. and will offend someone..
I don't like bullying at all but people need to start standing up for themselves and fight back.
@aznboi1027 He's fighting back in the right way -- not with violence, but firing up a debate.
@fantacontequila Not talking about solving violence with more violence. They got fight their own battle and not with tattling on people.
Good for Zack and his Mom.....!!!!!
Why have no other gay students come foreward to complain about this supposedly rigidly anti-gay school? Why just one? Why, through numerous blogs, have I exposed a compelling narrative where a certain someone was grabbing the assailant's but, secretly photographing the rear ends of alot of boys at that school and posting them online, and persistantly teasing and making fun of other male and female students? I was told all this from people WHO WERE RIGHT THERE WITNESSING ALL THIS.
Sickening!
I too was "different," but no one dared to bully me because everyone knew that I could and would defend myself. Yes, we need laws. We need a big change in attitude, as well.
In the meantime, we who are "different" in ways not approved of need to be able to protect ourselves. Violence isn't pretty, but sometimes it is the only effective response to violence.
Zach is too nice of a person to go through this crap.
His mom is my hero!! When she said she would not let this go unpunished I felt that!!! I am so proud of her for sticking up for her son and making sure the boy who attacked Zachary gets punished.
Keep bullying lgbtq
Agreed 🙏🏼
I'M A GIRL I LOVE GIRLS LOVE YOURSELF
ik him he goes to Unioto School
I'm so glad Zach has people who love him for who he is, support him, and are willing to stand up for him. That, at least, is heartening in a world of such disheartening actions.
Don't bullie gays with out me
I'm transgendered and I was bullied in school it's a hurtful feeling I'm sorry Zach that u had to deal with ignorance me and all the your lgbt family are behind you livestrong
+Laura Frost Hi Laura, Im a writer for Yahoo. Would love to hear more about your story to write a piece on LGBT Antibullying. How can i get in contact with you?
Nobody cares
Is he half Asian? He sort of looks it.
This breaks my heart! Why can't we all just love each other regardless of our sexuality, gender, religion, race, or any thing. We need more love and less hate

OHIO STILL THE BEST STATE BEING GAY
California would like to have a word with you
IDK man, no US state can really be considered the best considering it's still going to be a bit of a craphole in several regions within any state. This isn't the Netherlands you know.
Zach, we've all been there. I was your age once, and I felt the same way in my high school. I was scared to death to go to school for weeks because of bullying. Whatever happens, IT DOES GET BETTER. I can promise you that! Don't let these people tear you down. Whatever you do, I reiterate, DO NOT LET THESE PEOPLE BRING YOU DOWN. Keep up the good work, Zach and Becky!
No wonder your dad left

And of course i see no signs of a father figure in this story, was he flirting with the boy that assaulted him? no one knows, their not going to say either.
Ok. Principal told her he didn't have any other problems with any other gay students. Then at the end Becky says it's not a good school for gay students. I can personally attest the attacker befriended my bi nephew and a gay kid in middle school. Also, a petition drive was organized by the attacker's sister and a DIFFERENT GAY UNIOTO student to exonerate the "attacker", for everybody who know's anything knows that he was aggressively and persistantly provoked by a certain someone.
Dude looks like a lady
Is it just me or does the boy doing the hitting swing like a girl?
Nope we GIRLS swing strong he's swinging like a dude
He would have lost his life.
Only in Ohio bro💀💀💀
It should also be known that this "Vicious beating" didn't even require the gay kid to have to leave campus for any treatment. Seize upon that statement at the 20 second mark, where she recounts that converstion with the principal. It's true, a different gay unioto student helped organize the petition drive to free the "assailant", but the superintendant sternly forbidden them to continue with it when he found out.
Only in ohio bruh 💀 imagine having skill issue
I am glad the kids in my school in Ohio are supportive of me yes I was targeted the other day for talking to someones bf 😐 I still feel like noone really cares that I am gay(pan) its hard to tell ppl and its hard for some to understand but I got to stand my ground and stick up for the ppl that say oh blah blah blah this and blah blah that. Just a few weeks ago the kids in my class where like "oh lesbian and gay are basically the same thing" and I said no no and explained it then tbe teacher got involved and was like we can talk abt the lgbtq+ community and there sexuality and most of the class couldn't even repeat what she had just said. It just proved to me that they had NO IDEA OF WHAT THEY WHERE TALKING ABOUT
He's cute it's sad that he had to go through that smdh
Well beating him was very wrong and the perpetrator should pay it was a felony assault and a hate crime
Only in ohio
Obviously this happened cause y’all were in Ohio 😂🤣🤣🤣
