The 917 concept study is an homage to the 917 from 1970 that achieved the company’s first overall victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Good thing: Porsche never released prototypes, without making a (mini) series out of them. So I guess, there will be some very happy multi-millionaires who get in a couple of years their hands on this car. Probably it will be track only (not road legal).

This thing needs to be built with a proper flat 12 in it. And then please bring it at least to Téloché to the ex Porsche work shop for some photos
It should be track only, that way it doesn't have to obey certain limiting regulations and it doesn't belong on the road anyways, it would even be dangerous

917 should be 1500hp and gave a run for its money against Valkyrie and project one,among others next hypercars.... anyone of us who love cars knows about 917 and its legend...its hard make something worth of its name

@@alexgherghiceanu2094 i know that the figure comes to the maximun output of the 917 variants the 917\30 can am...anyway a 900hp its more than enough if you put it in 1000\1200kg...heavier than that would make it hard to compete against the new gen hypercars

Gokul Balram The new Hypercar regulations makes the sport more cost-effective to develop a top-tier racecar for. We’re talking only a few million dollars as compared to many tens of millions of dollars. I think Porsche would come back given the lowered costs.
@@r92cp49 It's not that simple though.. Not having chassis development suits Porsche and co but it doesn't work for Toyota, which is their last standing halo competitors so they may not do it.
They just withdrew.
That 917 concept is so beautiful, watching it even made the music sound beautiful.
I must say, in difference to Bugatti or Toyota, Porsche still has the spirit for bringing legends back too live, the way Porsche kept the very essence of this car is just groundbreaking.

It's a beautiful design concept paying homage to the one race car, the 917, that is most revered by not only the Porsche community but also amongst their rivals at companies like Ferrari. Perhaps the 550 spyder or original 718 might compare for sheer beauty, but I really think this 917 concept is stunning.
@@davew5167 i love the old le mans car but i don't know what to think about this one... I mean the golden age of cars is over. Looks like a 918 lite version and will probably be powered by almost the same engine. Like the gas engine with electric motors. What's even left of the original 917
@@rem362 I hear what you're saying but times change and I reckon they've done a wonderful job retaining some old design features over what appears to be a 918 chassis. For me it's a nod to the past with a clear eye to the future. Very Porsche if you consider almost 60 years of the evolution of the 911.

It needs a flat 12, or it will be another stylish boring electric car. The sound of the 917 was at least half of what made that car great.
Some say it's a V12 some say it's a Flat 12. Even their official document contradicts...
@@co3476 I don't know what they are looking at. It's a Boxter type engine, there is an engine where the stacks are angled. But I don't think Porsche in that day would have made a entirely different engine. Especially since their Boxter engines were very efficient and reliable even more so than today's engines.

Gabriel Malandin and Sammy, no. NOT a Boxer engine. We need a “V” configuration.
Give it a V-8, V-10 or V-12.
Why?
To maximize the underbody aero. The car HAS to generate negative lift and it requires venturis underneath the car either side of the vehicle centerline and end behind the car with a diffuser.
Designed this way there will be little need for a large, drag-inducing rear wing to generate downforce.
