@soundman. Memory serves me well. The Hybrids in Scotts Infinity had foam shot down in the door. After it cured. Removed the foam from between the door cavity and inner door skin. He reduced the size of it and made a mold to build a form fit enclosure between the door card and door skin to completely absorb the back wave of the full range 3.5 Legatia. The enclosure popped out from between the door card and door skin at the sails to complete the mounting point for the full range speaker. I am sure it was a pain in the rear to build. I am willing to bet your crossover point will be close to 500hz and up.
I ran a set of the single 6.5 in my crown vic, and used them for midbass, kept the stock location for midrange, and did tweeters on the pillars.. sounded wicked..
Use the pods, but eliminate the tweeter mounts and bring the two 6.5s together. You will love the extra midbass and you can use time alignment to fix the location differential with the full range. Since I started running four 6.5s on midbass, I'll never go back. Drums and bass guitar plucks absolutely hit your skin. Also, I'm sure you'll want to bodywork the pods in rather than have the hard edge and visible fasteners. Hell dude, you might have enough room in there for a proper midbass enclosure. That would be cool!
When I was with Hybrid and worked on Black Betty, we experimented with firing the L2SE's from a dash location in to the windshield. I was running them in my 2005 Acura TL as a wideband. Betty was running them as a midrange with the X1 tweeter. I loved them as a WB because of the large frequency coming from one speaker and location/s. I didn't like how the sound they made when on axis aka pointed at you. They had a muffled sound even with EQing. When fired up from the factory corners, we got a nice 3db boost at 16khz and 20khz. And believe it or not, the imaging became dead on without time alignment. We did play with the phase to get some depth but remember, this system had just FIVE speakers in total! The 2, 3in L2SE's....the 2. 7in L6SE's......and the best sounding 15 of all time (and one of the best overall subs!), the Hybrid Audio Clarus 15. It was running in IB firing into the rear seat. I made basically a 4 cubic foot enclosure without the back. This way it was so easy to seal it off from the rear deck, trunk sides, and front baffle. If I wanted to do SPL, would install the rear box panel and have a sealed or ported enclosure. SORRY for this long ass post/reply as i just wanted to make sure everyone understands how this type of speaker system works. Every speaker is installed in infinite baffle, IB, configuration. Love seeing Rafa back too! This is OLD SCHOOL Doug from Soundman Car Audio and I LOVE IT!!!!
I'm going to be installing widebands in my sail panels as well. I'm going to use a similar construction technique. One difference is I'll make a grill cloth cover to keep it stealthy. Thanks for the construction tips, Doug. 👍
Been watching since the very first sound man episode and I miss the episodes where you had the whole team and you’d tune the audio with the little microphone and the EQ. I know it’ll never go back to that but it’s nice to see Rafa is still around.
you'll have to do a blind A/B comparison with those locations have Rafa on a switch . That would be more great contact. I'm sooooo here for the install!!!!!!!!!!
You're so good at what you do, and thr finished product is always outstanding. But it takes so long i rarely see it done until I find it randomly a year later, because i completely forget about your channel.
I was already on your site before you said the grills weren't available for purchase 😂 also fill all them holes Doug pillar pods the pods you made the 6.5s and the doors. Sql
I got a set of the custom speaker pods for my truck. The fit was excellent, definitely credit for that. My concern is that it’s flimsy plastic with no rigidity. I ended up using epoxy to coat them and some bondo. (2) 8” and 3” mids, feel like the weight alone will have them fall off the door. I also CA glued it to the panel and screwed the panel into the door skin.
Use your early reflections if needed! I run a Wideband fired straight up off dashboard firing at window.. works well. Stage width will be great in sails.. likely suffer stage depth though.
Rafa looking well fed, must be making that bankroll! Good to see him. Nice to have you back around big dawg.
That's because he's not locked up in Doug's basement anymore surviving off of drippy pipe water and crickets
@@VincentsVideoVisions i chucked

Welcome back Rafa!
The timelapse's and music in this went HARD
Great to see Rafa, it's been a long time now. Will definitely check out his UA-cam.
I think you should use the 2- 61/2 speaker pods, and hook them up to a switch, so you could turn them on to go loud, or turn them off to go more SQ.
That is a dope ass idea.
Looks sick Doug. I almost fell out of my chair laughing after you discovered they sent you custom tweeter pods. Too funny man.
